Hi ppl, due to the fact my ally use very often big bombers gang i'm going to complete the skills for covert jump portal in few days, already got the ship under my ass and trying to understand some things:
1) Fuel usage, jumpign and portal:
Due to the fact i never had a erebus for trying it i don't have a clue on how the jump portal works, on fuel base i mean, i know the usage obviously and the restrictions of covert jump portal, the question is simple:
The module don't specify any kind of fuel on activation, just 100 Cap, 20 second activation not possible to auto-repeat. This is pretty cool on paper, but someone must put some fuel for making the ships jump! you have to bring fuel for the others or everyone just keep in cargo the required fuel like for pos jump bridges? and the fuel usage is the same? is it based on size?
2) Operating the ship:
What i'm planning as FC is to use this baby and my normal 20-30 bomber fleet for vastly increasing the firepower of a "bait" fleet in hostile space, following it with this baby and all the bombers.
In this case, i would need, in order to:
a) open cyno at the destination, better if covert cyno with a recon
b) open the jump portal to the destination, all fleet jump
c) jump the Sin for last
d) safespot the sin, cloaking it until next usage
e) keeping outcyno ready for both the sin and the bombers, with 20 sec activation is not so "crazy" to make ur bomber fleet warp to u, open portal and bring everyone and ur ass out of a camped sys.
I'm correct? there are other steps involved for operating a Black-Ops? i don't think so, please say ur point.
3) Fitting it:
I was thinking about different fitting for supporting the gang, but at the end is like a very very expensive dominix, nothing to add, resistance are pretty crap, it can just fit a normal dominix fitting or so, with less low slot too... pretty unuseful, i was thinking about fitting it just for Cargo space and Cap recharge, with 6x expanded cargohold (more fuel, seems like it use a lot for jumping around and i don't know if i need fuel even for using jump portal, as in question n&1) and 6x cap rechargers II + 2x ccc rigs, it come out with like 150 sec cap recharge and a nice 2577 cargohold, obviously add cloak to it, and maybe some neutralizer for disabling a random tackler/covop that warp on u while jumping out the fleet and urself..
Any clue? what you think about? i think this ship is too expensive for using it in combact, would be completely wiped out in 2 sec becoming primary, and u would lose ur logistic advantage... i think the role of this ship is a totaly "support" role, maybe a nice idea can be some remote armor repper for fixing ur fleet after a battle or even in between.
The ship is pretty nice as logistic support for an ally like mine that use a crapload of bombers, very good for providing aid to allied and friends in the surroading area with just the need of a cyno, completely avoiding any gatecamp/bubble/blob/whatever, i would realy like to have a COVOP CLOAK fitted on it, but ccp decided to make it completely unuseful for pirating...
Some dreamings assuming u could use a covop cloak:
750 cpu with some "good" fitting means:
Recon probe launcher
5x slots for neut/guns/whatever
6x slot with mwd/injector/some ecm or dampeners too for exemple
6x low for a good armortank, not so amazing but good
Last but not least the normal 475 dps from maxed out ogre's II
It would be the king of "kicking ass" of ppl in belts and so on :) just don't have troubles with crap tankers that just outank ur arazu/rapier/whatever.
Well, maybe this is why u can't fit a covop cloak ehhehe

I wouldn't know how to fit a Sin, but i'll be watching the thread with interest.
However, don't even try and fit a CovOps cloak, it can't use it. Normal Cloak only on that puppy.
The Covert Portal Generator is also a high-slot module, so you'll need to account for that too in your fitting.

I've been thinking about two types of fitting, and then there's also a third one. Here's a few ideas and comments I've already posted in an another thread.
Let's face it, the Sin is really lacking grid to fit large weapons, large rep, an injector and a MWD. So, you really need to make a compromise of some sort. And I believe that the role of the BO ships is to do DPS.
Also, having an injector is somewhat problematic since you need the cargo space for isotopes to jump yourself and accompanying ships around. So the class is prenerfed pretty neatly already.
High: covert jump portal, drone link augmentor, improved cloak, neutron blaster cannon II x 4
Med: MWD, ECCM, Scram, web, 2x sensor booster
Low: magstab II x3, MAR, iStab/nanofiber/OD x2
Fits with an ancillary current router. 953 DPS with decent skills (which is crap), faction ammo and T2 heavies. No tank, med repper is to repair damage between battles if recons miss a cycle or something.
High: covert jump portal, drone link augmentor, improved cloak, energy neut x2, large remote armor rep x2
Med: MWD, ECCM, Scram, sensor booster x2, injector
Low: 2x 1600mm plate, DC T2, Exp hardener, Kin hardener, Therm hardener.
Rigs: 2x trimark armor pump
Logistic drones and some stuff. Buffer tank with 101k hp, tanks a doomsday. Neuts are used to break active tanks so that the recons and drones can break the enemy active tank.
Rails and sentry drones:
Sort of a compromise, isn't very good at anything but keeps range. Injector, rails and a decent tank.
High: covert jump portal, improved cloak, 250mm rails x4, 1 empty slot(!)
Med: ECCM, sensor booster x2, injector, drone tracking link x2
Low: Low: 2x 1600mm plate, Large T2 rep, Exp hardener, Kin hardener, Therm hardener.
Rigs: sentry damage augmentor x2
approx. 420 DPS from about 50km with ok drones, decent skills and faction iridium charges. CPU is tight, train drone rigging higher if it doesn't fit.
The setup with rails shows how difficult it is to fit the ship. To fit an injector and a repper requires you to downgrade to lower size guns. If you want an MWD for the railsetup, consider using a faction repper, cloak, guns or MWD or you run out of CPU. But to be honest, this ship shouldn't be MWDing from bubbles anyway - it moves using the jumpdrive.
In the end I'm just theorycrafting here. I really haven't found a setup I really like - but I'm most fond of the setup with most DPS, since that's kind of what I see BO ships doing in a recon gang.
