I think I just may have figured out a way to do it.
Can't try it out yet to be sure, but I am near certain it will work.
Give them all away to your scrubby alt using CONTRACTS.
Then delete the scrubby Alt.

That does not work too well as it takes weeks and even then I have read in other threads you still have troubles trying to get rid of them.
Some people (like myself) are neat freaks and they bug the heck out us to no end. Particularly when as I first started I went crazy buying them for organizing purposes not realizing I would be stuck with them.
Main reason I hate them so much is because I do quite a bit of buying and selling to make ISK and they confuse my Assets Display when trying to organize pick-up routes and finding places where I have stuff waiting for pick up.

Damn, I was planning on doing my spring cleaning by moving everything to two or three stations only. 'Guess I'm screwed.

There's either too many players, or CCP should change to some kind of system where the user can manually click "refresh character portrait". Since I'm pretty sure rendering the portrait of every character posting in the forum takes a good amount of time and resources.

Well they won't let you do anything with unrepackaged station containers and you won't be able to repackage it unless you don't touch them for a very long time. ---

I use contracts to get rid of them as you suggested. It works fine. 10k isk is a small price to pay for a type-a personality to have one less entry in the assets window.

In my case its about a dozen of them.
I knew the contract would work, was not certain about deleting the alt, but presumed so.
Glad to know for certain with your post.
Funny thing is I scoured the threads over a week ago looking for a work around and noone suggested this.
I was messing around a little while ago and it dawned on me and I was so excited I just had to share it.

Buy General Freight Containers. For organizing your personal hangar, they work the same as Station Cans, without any of the annoyance. They even melt down without issue, and can be moved (if you're willing to use a freighter). -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Some fine day, EVE players will learn to spell "hangar" correctly. Probably won't happen today, or even this year, but eventually, it'll come to pass.
Yeah, station containers you can't get rid of are annoying. I'll have to try that contract thing.

When you're finished with a station container set a password on it, and then rename it "Empty 18/01/08" (with the correct date of course).
That way you can then see, from your assets window, when the 3-week log timer has expired for any given container. When all the ones you want rid of are expired then you can do a trip to the stations, repackage them all and reprocess or sell them. ________________________________________________________________

Wow. Never would have guessed!
Anyway, thanks for the great idea about contracts. Time to go clean up a ton of useless old station containers...

I just offer them for free to everyone in local. There's usually someone who will bite.
Now if they are planning on just repackaging or reprocessing them...
And I agree with using General Freight Containers. Those work wonderfully. They hold 120,000m3, and don't have the annoying "feature" of not being able to repackage or reprocess whenever you want. They're more expensive, but we're still only talking around 200k, versus the 20k or so for Station Containers.

FYI, if you aren't sure how long the container has been untouched, and repackaging it fails, you will add an audit entry for failed repackage, and reset the 2 week timer.

Can't we just get station containers without all the loging and crap? I need it to sort my own trash and since nobody can access it except me there is really no need for the logs, locking and the rest of the stuff (especially as settings are stored localy).

I just rename them and trade them to some noob docked at the station. They are quick to accept a trade with a few cans labled 'phat faction loot', 'corpse collection', and my favorite 'titan bp collection'. Then I just go about my way.

Reprocessing "in the whole galaxy" only containers would be the solution IMHO. I've got a lot of stuff to get rid of, too.

Yes it does. Your timer must have run out.
I will continue the suggestion about freight containers, however. I've been using them for a few days and they are a nice replacement.

Wouldn't work, as station containers cannot be reprocessed during the three week period either.

i just pick a random person in station, open trade, put container in winodw accept and walk away... they usually accept it then make forum posts asking about how to get rid of them.

I usually get rid of them by offering corpmates stuff when they ask and adding the can to the trade window before htey realize. Beets, you're among friends. |
