Hey guys,
Im fairly new to Eve-online, and im trying to get a good grasp of the way the game mechanic work. I started out Caldari ashura, so I was using missiles and Shield (i currently fly a drake). But it turned out i didn't liked The missile system too much, and instead was a bit more attracted to projectiles weapon. So I thought i'd witch to a type of ships that used turrets. So I decided to go minmatar, since the switch to didn't seem as a hard as switched to amarr or galantes (althought I really like the amarr for armor tanking).
Obviously since I started caldari (and I joined this game only a few weeks ago), I don't have much gun skills, but still purchased a hurricane, because I thought it looked cool and had pretty good base stats, But now im fairly bummed as it's a completly different setup (uses armor instead of shield and my gunnery skill is nearly non-existant).
In the longer run, i'd want to fly a minmatar battleship (probably the maelstrom as it seems pretty much all around), so which set of skills do I want to focus, if I want to use Auto-cannon, and not been blown away in 10 seconds during a fight? (if that's even possible).
P.S. in the end, I want to pvp, so am I heading in the right direction, or should I look forward to another race?

Skills for effective Hurricane/Rupture piloting:
Spaceship command: Battlecruisers IV Minmatar cruiser IV Spaceship command V
Navigation skills: (win for all races and ships in game) Evasive Maneuvering V Navigation V Acceleration Control IV High Speed Maneuvering IV Afterburners IV (prereq for MWD)
Mechanic: Thermic Armor Compensation IV Repair Systems V Hull Upgrades V Mechanic V Explosive Armor Compensation IV Kinetic Armor Compensation IV EM Armor Compensation III (just to annoy JoJo) - not sure, but should be a few more skills in the cathegory
Engineering: Engineering V Energy systems OP/menagement (capacitor skills): V
Electronics: Electronics V Signature Analysis V
Science: Thermodynamics IV
Gunnery: Weapon Upgrades IV/V (V is needed for AWU which you are OK without on a Cane, but can't menage without on a BS) Motion Prediction IV (or V) Gunnery V Rapid fire IV/V (big damage boost, V is just 10 days) Surgical strike IV/V (V takes a bit) Medium Projectile turret V (basically mandatory) Medium Autocannon specialisation IV Sharpshooter III/IV (you don't benefit from this very much, unless you're using like Hail M) Trajectory Analysis IV
Missile skills (if you want to use HAMs): support skills at III/IVs, plus Heavy Assault Missiles IV
Drones V and a bit of drone skills would be nice too. Sig removed, inappropriate link. If you would like further details please mail mods@ccpgames.com ~Saint |

Don't fly a BS in PvP until much much later, imo.
Stick with cruisers/BCs - they're awesomely potent ships with a good skill-set, and you can focus on your support skills without spend a lot of time training Minmatar Battleship and Large Projectile Turret, all high-rank skills. Plus, BCs and cruisers are cheap.
It is better to be very proficent with cruisers/BCs/frigs then to be mediocre or even outright bad in a battleship.
Also, you can safely ignore most shield skills (get the shield amount one to like III/IV and leave it there for the time being) if you fly Hurricanes/Ruptures. Sig removed, inappropriate link. If you would like further details please mail mods@ccpgames.com ~Saint |

I also have a few other questions, from what I noticed so far , guns seems to miss a lot more than missiles (actually missiles just don't miss at all unless destroyed by defenders), doesn't have that a huge effect on dps? Unless guns hit a lot harder(and they have much shorter range), I can't seems to understand how they are equivalents.
Also, im reading armor compensation skills, does that also affect adaptatives nano-membrane? Or do I have to get resistance plate for each type of damage to get benefit from that skill?

Yes, the armor compensation skills affect EANM's. I believe that is the primary reason why people train up all compensation or most of them to level 4.

Missiles and guns are not really equivalent because they work differently. The trick with turrets has to do with your optimal range and turret fallof range. There is a guide for this, but basically it's like this: at optimal you hit around 100%. The more you get into falloff, the less chance you'll have to hit something. At max falloff range you will hit around 50% and at around 2x max falloff you will stop hitting at all.
It's more complex than this though. Learn more about that here.
