This sounds like an incredibly noob question, but let me explain.
Mission-running is a pretty good way of making isk if your skills are good. Perhaps I haven't sunk enough capital into a really good mission ship, and perhaps I shouldn't be hoovering up every bit of salvage and loot - but I digress. Because of that, I'm currently based in a 0.9 level 4 mission hub. Coincidentally, I also have good industrial skills - so at the moment I have ten factory lines running (or at least reserved) full-time and I'm selling all I can make, at margins from 10 to 25% and ticket prices between 1.2 million or so (tractors) down to 80 isk (ammo, of course).
There are a few problems here, all of which I think are making my money-making less efficient. One is that the factory queues are too long - up to 2 days on occasion - which limits production. Another is that not enough of my money is working - at the moment, 5% of my net worth is in buy orders and maybe another 20% in stock of goods and minerals.
I have looked at selling ships. The trouble is, as most people on this section know, that ships sell at pathetic profit margins. Also, the biggest ship for which I have a BPO is the Bestower; the other ones are a couple of Gallente frigates and the Kestrel, none of which I have bothered making for months. Of course, the lead time for setting up BC production (for example) would be months, given the ME research queues and the slow research on things this big.
Any ideas about being more market-efficient? Please bear in mind that my play time is limited, so hauling goods all over the galaxy is a no-no. General advice would be appreciated - I'm not expecting any trade secrets. I have a couple of billion to play with - the rest is reserved for major purchases in the near future.

Edited by: Mtber on 19/01/2008 16:08:42 My 1st piece of advice would be to join a corp that is a member of a research alliance. That would give you access to me, pe and copy slots with no queues. Ricdic posts a lot in here and coincidentally runs a very large research alliance. He would be better able than me to advise you on the specifics.
Failing that you could start up your own corp and set up a small pos (player owned station) and install mobile labs in it. You would then have your VERY OWN me, pe and copy slots. Certainly you should consider starting your own 1 man corp anyway, just to get faction standings against the later eventuality of you wanting to set up a pos. Without faction standing there are people offering faction standing raising services. The cost of getting the standings for a pos in a .7 system would probably be about 250m.
As regard the factory problem the answer is to move to a quieter system. You might be surprised at how much difference just one jump away might make.
As regards your idle money.......there are lots of people in here who will be happy to take it off you and look after it
There's probably a few sharks about as well so be careful

Ahem.... POS (in your context) is not a player owned STATION. That is billions worth of assets.
It is in fact a "player owned structure".
Slight difference I know... but important if you were ever involved at taking down a real "Player Owned Station" and listened to your enemies crys and whines in local.
Most enjoyable.
