hello all Star Trek Fans
i have been acused to be one to many times
and i culd not leave unoticed the Arbitator - that ship look like Star Trek ship to say atleast
The gun implasement of it are just so cool and the command bridge is abaut at the right spot to
i am always dreaming to venturng into some Deep deeep space whit it and explore the galaxy - the thing looks just so cool i am hopingg that CCP culd add it some sort of spesial ability for exploring space (abd every other race shuld have Explorer cruiser to)
Some sort of Deep space explorer cruiser whuld be always a cool thing
Battleships are to big and frigates are to small - cruisers are abaut the right size

You're right about the Arbitrator looking quite Trekkish.
Long before Rick Berman messed up the franchise, Gene Roddenberry laid out a few rules with the design of his starships. One among them is that the symmetrically placed warp drives must have a clean line of sight between them. Although EVE ship designs do not intentionally follow Roddenberry's principle---often quite deliberately flaunt it---the Arbitrator seems to have unintentionally followed it.
However, the Arbitrator failed to follow one of Roddenberry's other rules. That is, the warp engine intakes must have a clear view of the front.

Maybe CCP could design a tribute ship: one that looks deliberately like a Starfleet design. I'd say having it show up as an NPC randomly would be fun. "OMFG I swear I saw the Enterprise!" The Millennium Falcon would be another good one to use as a tribute too. |

Oh no please don't ask CCP to bring Star Trek into this, it's unbelievebly boring. You may think it's really fun but the bitter truth is that nothing ever happens in them. __________ Capacitor research |

Calm down Dust Puppy. I don't want to make this Star Trek. I was just suggesting a tribute. Think of it like Elvis sightings. Every once in a while the USS Enterprise would cruise through a system, then warp out. Strictly NPC. I just think it'd be a neat little easter egg if they tossed it in. |

I dont know what you people are on about, the arbitrator has no resemblance at all to Star Trek ships, or to the design ethos behind them. Closest resemblance i can think of is to a stylized version of a ship like the TCS Victory from Wing Commander 3, and even thats reaching quite a bit.
The only EVE ship which comes close to it is the Omen, which has a very similar front end to a Romulan warbird, as has been pointed out since they were first seen back in beta, or possibly even alpha. The resemblance obviously ends there however.

Edited by: Dust Puppy on 24/03/2004 15:51:35 I am perfectly calm I was just trolling Well it didn't work you trekkies probably hear this to often and don't get to excited. I also routinly say that Nirvana and the Beatles were not very good
I still don't like Star Trek though I've tried watching it quite often.
Edit: and Siddy I dare say that the Shield system doesn't only resemble Star Trek (not that I know that much about Star Trek) but other show, movies and books to. __________ Capacitor research |

If you believe that, then you quite seriously need to actually watch a few episodes of Star Trek. The combat and shield systems resemble that of Star Trek only in the fact that eve ships can fire torpedoes, and the defences are called "Shields". Nothing more.

EVE has elements in common with Star Trek, Star Wars, B5, and other sci fi shows because it's a sci fi game. No need for anyone to get agitated over it. And back to the origional topic of this thread, I have noticed that a lot of the ships in ever are non-symmetrical. As far as looks, I don't like it, but it's not bothering me enough that that I won't use that Tempest BPc sitting in my hanger. |

Its worth noting that the only reason that these design principles were stated is to discredit the Franz Joseph tech manual and everything that was derrived from that line of thought (in other words, SFB).

Quote: However, the Arbitrator failed to follow one of Roddenberry's other rules. That is, the warp engine intakes must have a clear view of the front.
They're actually called "Bussard Collectors," and they have little to do with the actual warp drive system. They use a ram-scoop technology to scoop hydrogen or other useful materials out of space. This hydrogen can be converted into the much-needed dueterium which is the matter used in conjunction with antimatter to power the warp core reactor.
However, this is a emergency sytem for the most part, most likely to be used on extended trips where fuel supply is an issue. The hyrdrogen the scoops collect is rarely needed and can therefore be used for such things as the so-called "Crimson Force Field" the Pakleds were "unfortunate" to have used against them.
But you're right about one thing: They do have to have a clear view from the front of the ship.
And yes....I'm a Trekkie. Hard-core.

Put a Trek ship into the game, and the Paramount legal department would come in so fast, it would make your head spin.
Little known tidbit. Simon and Shuster, EVE's former publisher, happens to be owned by VIACOM, which also owns Paramount who owns Star Trek.

... NO That's more interaction than I was thinking. I never knew there were so many people that disliked Star Trek. To any devs that may be reading this, I take back my request. The last thing a Trek fan like myself wants is to see the Enterprise having to kill person after person that attacks it in hopes of it dropping something good. (Not only would it have superior firepower and range, it'd be able to escape anytime. The Enterprise has never been warp jammed. ) |
