I had never even heard of her. She's apparently multi-platinum. Never heard of her songs that I clicked on youtube.

Colorado for the last 2.... Her music really isn't to my taste at all. I'll take Joan Jett, Bob Seger, or pretty much any classic rock over her music any day. I'll giver her that she can sing though. |

I understand you don't like her music, but to say you never heard of her or one of her songs, even on the radio seems really, really weird to me. |

I can honestly say that I cannot consciously remember ever hearing her name, or link it to a celebrity persona, or music. Neither of my parents listen to her style of music, and if she happened to come onto the radio, I probably would have changed the station after a few bars. It may seem odd, but I only remember the names of artists I like, and even then, only the group names. I can't name all of the Rolling Stones, or Led Zepplin. I may have heard her name in passing, but not enough to remember it at this point. |

I can understand that, I also suppose it matter what age you are? I think first time I heard of her and her music was when I watched the movie the bodyguard with Kevin Costner back in 92 or 93 or whenever that was. She was huge in the 90's as far as names go. Every single time someone talked about singers or voices there would always be someone mentioning her voice as the best voice in the world, more famous than celine dion ever was before the titanic. |

The inevitable slew of drug-related comments are going to pour in irrespective of what her cause of death is, but completely regardless of that, this is the loss of a genuine recording legend who was taken way before her time. What a brilliant history and talent she leaves behind for generations to come to enjoy and appreciate. A star in every sense of the word, and for every low period of darkness and missteps she had a thousand blistering highs, brought joy to millions with her music and incomparable live performances, and set a precedence, a bar and a soaring inspiration for an entire generation of singers and performers who felt their skin tone, ethnicity or background would inhibit them in pursuing their dreams.
None of that is hyperbole - a legend has passed but a beautiful legacy remains.

She sang some songs then went and overdosed. Scott of the Antarctic, now that is someone to remember. |

How about you wait a bit for the autopsy result before deciding there's Crack involved?
At the moment it seems it's only some anti-stress medicine + alcohol. |

Luckily we have CNN to keep us updated on this story. All day, every day, all week. Iran and North Korea could launch nukes at each other and these guys wouldn't break the Whitney Houston coverage. American TV journalism-- giving the people what they want! |
