I am having a similar problem. I crahed out last night, andlost my ishtar...thanks ccp...but more importantly, I can't download either client, sais the connection to server has been reset each time. And tryin to start up my existing client, I get about .5 fps on my whole computer. This has to be an eve problem because everything else is fine. I wonder if I will get my first ship back ever from ccp this time, probably not...

As I wrote 3 days ago, I tried the Linux client with the same hardware and game runs pretty smoothly, so it's not a hardware issue (it couldn't have been one since I haven't changed hardware for some years now...). It's a Windows problem related either with the Win client or a Microsoft update or a combination of the two. I tried to install Eve on an old pc at work running XP but I'm having the same problem not able to login.
For the record, I have an AMD 3800+ (2,4GHz) with 1GHz of Ram and an old Nvidia 5700LE 256MB and I have been playing for more than 2 years with this "monster"...

Tried every solution above, except reinstalling. Will try that if I needed. Still, would love to hear an official response to this.

I had the same problem my solution apparently was to reinstall and try the alt + enter technique mentioned above and it worked !! (to my amazement ) although I wish I read the post earlier lol to avoid the whole reinstall, but then again this was better :P

Edited by: Mellinok on 22/05/2008 07:12:54 I ran into this very same problem after my graphics card crapped out and I had to go back to my on-board (awful) graphics. I'm running Eve classic on an old Windows XP machine.
What I did was right click the Eve client icon in Windows, select "Properties," go to "Compatibility," and select "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution." "Apply" then "OK" then run your Eve client. It came up huge in my display but it was there! I clicked ESC and then I was able to TAB down and select "Full Screen" and then "Apply" (the very next button after "Present Interval") then ENTER. Log off Eve and go back and change the properties back to normal. It's running ok now (well, as ok as it'll run on this old machine , but at least I can set skills etc).
I hope this helps some of you. |

Originally by: Korlanth I've been using the game for awhile now and it has been working fine. However, now i'm having problems starting the game. When I click on the EVE shortcut I get the first EVE screen like the game is about the load...however...
The game never starts up after that initial image. It simply stays minimized at the bottom and the music plays in the background. When I click on the minimized icon at the bottom, nothing happens...
Can anyone help?
That happen to me after i format my hardisk and re-install Window Xp before that it worked perfectly so what is missing or wrong!? i hope that ccp got a answer, and fast... i lost already a day of skill

Same problem. I played the game right up till down time, it closed itself but before that happened, the resolution sort of changed then it closed itself.
Whenever trying to start up the client, all i was getting was the tab down the bottom but nothing else.
Alt-Enter did not work, but right clicking on the eve.exe file, going to compatibility mode and selecting start in 640x480 resolution fixed the problem.

guys a temp fix for this is the following:
Create a shortcut on your desktop.
open its properties and in the target window add the following /end /LUA:OFF
For example the new target will look something like this:
C:\EVECLASS\eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF
All this does is makes it so you dont write to your bugged out cache/prefs.
Ive been using this workaround for a month but i'de really love for CCP to provide the bugfix, reinstalling because of this is a joke and unacceptable.

I was finally able to get my laptop eve client back up, i changed to compability mode 640x480 then pressed escape key. Then had to try to hit the right place to hit to change resolution. Then fool around to try to find the reset settings tab then clear cache. And then turn off 640x480 compability mode. After that the client runned smooth.
The thing for me is that i diddt see the cursor, so i had to move it so i could see fields light up then press. The thing i miss is a out of game change of resolution and cache clearing.

I am having exactly the same problem after reinstalling windows XP. Before hand it was working fine I have tried all the suggestions above however without any success... Surely after all this time of the problem being apparent there is a fool proof solution?

I'm having the same problem and at first the alt+enter was not working, it kept crashing on me. I tried pressing alt+enter twice and that seemed to work and avoided it from crashing. I'm on Vista 64x so if anyone else is having crashing issued with alt+enter try pressing it twice. CCP needs to get this fixed.

I did the same thing and it worked. alt+tab worked once for me and then it just kept crashing again. It's a pain in the ass to have to do this but worked for me.
