best play of the game = manning's 43 yard pass in the end of the 4th quarter while getting sacked and continuing to evade them.
AMAZING
And I'm a packers fan, and I wouldn't be much happier even if the Packs had made it and won. I just REALLLLY wanted to see the pats lose.
They've been FAR too overrated. Ironically everybody said that the Giants were going the choke, but in the end it's the Pats who choked up big time. ----- They've gone to PLAID!!

simply awesome ending.
NY giants deck the hell out of the pats in the last 5 mins. Puts the pats at 2nd and 18. Pats cannot recover. Giants score an awesome bomb. End.
Funny at the last second at 00:01 in the 4th when the refs tell everyone to get off the field so that the offense can knee it lol.

While it would've been cool to see a team have a perfect season, I really wanted the Giants to win instead since I don't like the Patriots' egos. The other great thing about that is that the mystical goal of a having a perfect season + superbowl is still out there for teams to strive for.
That was one helluva game.
P.S. It happened in my hometown, but I would've had to basically bankrupt myself if I wanted tickets. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire "Look, pa! I just contributed absolutely nothing to this thread!" |

As all the football fans are in here, this seems the perfect oppotunity to ask:
I watched the game until the half time session. Here in the UK we had the BBC showing it so we got no advert breaks, so why was there 4 advert breaks in the first giants attack (that lasted 9 mins + secs)? How are you supposed to concentrate or even enjoy a game where the the adverts take precident over the content (A bit like Eve really, all show no content)? I really really honestly tried to give it a go, but by half time I was bored senseless. Not by the game of football but by the incessent breaks. The 'experts' in the studio were clearly struggling to say something original, the british self confessed 'football jinkie' anchor man looked bored too. So, I take it back, the football was enjoyable enough, but i'd want to watch the highlights reel cos the live game is far to yawn.
Oh btw, well done Giants. But as D1ck Stockton & Sterling Sharpe (the commentators) pointed out, most brits would have been supporting the patriots because of the 'new england' in their name. So a double whammy for all you limey hating yanks out there

It was on TV here in the UK, I really only saw the last quarter of it. I've never really watched sports, I did find it quite interesting though, as who was winning changed so much in the last few minutes. It was impressive when the player (quarterback?) avoided being tackled, despite everyone trying to grab him, and made that long throw to the other one who I thought did well to keep hold of it.
There seemed to be hundreds of people standing on the sides of the pitch. Who are they? Also, are those towels several players seemed to have stuck in their waists? why?

This is why its often better to just tune in for the last quarter of the game.

Indeed. In America when that happens we call it a scrumptywinkle.

Alot of people. It depends on which team has possession of the ball. Two thirds of the team is always on the sideline, the offensive unit, the defense, or the "special teams", who are an elite unit trained for various clandestine uses, such as videotaping of the opposition, or secret raids to the other teams sideline to steal their towels.
Also, various coaches, assistants, assistants to the assistants, club VIPs, photographers, league officials, etc. will stand around the sideline.

Two words: groin sweat. This is why NFL football has so many commercial breaks, as the between-play towelling is not fit for TV.
Furthermore, some players require dry hands to catch or throw the ball, and are not Michael Jackson enough to just wear gloves. Thus they have the towels to dry off their hands between plays.
Also many players are just insufferably dainty. ~-~-~-~-~ -[WillChat4ISK]- I can be the handsome Amarr space captain. You can be the helpless Minmatar slave girl. |

Proof or STFU. The senior GM has seen the petition and closed it. There's no metagaming in football? Then take the sideline snapshots out of play, get the defensive coordinator out of a box seat, get rid of the two-way radios, hell, get rid of the media and stop broadcasting the games. The Pats were smart enough to use legal resources in ways no one thought of before. Sandbox game, anyone? Or go back to WoW? ----- TANSTAAFL

This thread suddenly smells of bitter Patriots fan.
If taping your opponents before games, and taping their signs during games, isn't illegal then why were they fined for it? Why did they lose a draft pick? ~-~-~-~-~ -[WillChat4ISK]- I can be the handsome Amarr space captain. You can be the helpless Minmatar slave girl. |

First of all, I'm in no way bitter. I'm disappointed that my team didn't win, for sure, but I'm not bitter. That's not my style. I saw an excellent game, and I saw the Giants do what we did six years ago: start out sucky, have our QB find his groove, go on to a stellar season and playoffs, and beat the spread in the largest margin since the Pats did it on '02. Kudos to the Giants, and I'm looking forward excellent games against them next year.
On to the 'cheating'. It wasn't cheating when they did it, the Pats organization didn't think it was cheating, and it was only declared a cheat after people raised a ruckus. There's nothing wrong with gaining as much information about your opponent as possible, except when the rules explicitly deny certain methods. That goes back to Sun Tzu.
The thing that ticked me off was the allegation of cheating that surfaced last Friday and dates to last season. Allegations that were investigated by the Commissioner (senior GM) and dismissed. ----- TANSTAAFL

The superbowl is a special case where sometimes the ads are more entertaining than the game (especially some '90s games where the Cowboys where often stuffing the Bills 167-3), though the quality of the ads seems to have gone down the last few years.
But that doesn't excuse the rest of the football season for doing the same thing, or American TV in general. Which is why I gave up on broadcast/cable TV a long time ago.

Huh?
The largest spread in a Superbowl was in 1995 with 18 points for San Francisco over San Diego (and they covered it winning 49-26). Then there was the Bears v. Pats in 1985. I forget what the spread was (less than 18 I know) when the Pats got creamed 46-10. I would guess that covered the spread by a huge margin.

Even though I live in Miami, I was born (and my heart is still) in Boston, Mass. Obviously my allegiance is to the Patriots. This was a huge victory to the crappy Dolphins and quite frankly, Dolfans are beginning to **** me off . I have nothing against the Dolphins themselves, just the fans... Damn haters. Anyway, congrats to the Giants... And Dolphins . Even though the Patriots deserved the record.

I was on the its bull**** bandwagon, but this morning, I read this Linkage and linkage If there ends up being anything to this, I will be very ****ed off indeed. It certainly makes sense why the commissioner destroyed the tapes because it wasnt just the jets signal calling he had in his hands, he had 6 years worth of dynasty up for an asterisk. Stealing signals is no big deal, they do it in baseball all the time. But this is bull****. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped.
