I get strange FPS drops every time i lock a target. Goes 60fps all the time, i lock a target and it drops to 50fps, if i lock multiple targets it drops to a slide show. Didn't have this problem before. All drivers updated and cleaned. Eve cache cleaned, tried with my settings and no settings at all. Sound on/off makes no difference. Full screen/window/fixed mode all the same.
Tried this on E6500, 4gb ram, 5770 (11.8 drivers, but same with 11.6) & win7 x64. Tried on my nephews E5200, 3gb ram, 2900pro (11.8 drivers) & W7 x86, same thing.
So did eve release a patch that is screwing with me, or Ati did its driver magic again? I have no idea what to try next.
Anyone? |

Finally found some free time for more testing. Anyway, installed new Win7 x64, all updates and audio/video drivers (ati 11.8). Then new Eve installed, no settings imported, just clean eve.
And same goddamn thing happens. I get massive FPS drops when i am locking targets. At least now i know its not my Windows that are screwing me over. So that's tested with 2 driver editions (11.6 & 11.8), with sound on/off, on clean windows installation and on 2 different PCs. And same problem still goes on. I get 60 FPS (v-synced) all the time in battle and roaming around, i only get massive drops in FPS when i lock targets. Anyone else has some performance problems like this?

Its no use, eve gfx performance is just really bad and CCP don't give a damn.

Its completely ********, everything goes at 60 fps, combat, warping, anything...., but on targeting, when the icon needs to show up, frame-rate drops. Locking 5 targets with Tengu is annoying, 7-10 targets with machariel is completly unplayable. On 1 (one) client only! Clean windows or not, settings or not, i have no idea how to play with this. WTF CCP? Do i need to buy a nvidia to lock a target ? Eve takes some 900mb and there is plenty free ram to go around, CPU usage is around 30%. Even going for "interval immediate" rises my FPS to 200+, and CPU to 100%, but same thing happens, lock a target, try to show me the icon and i drop to 30 fps...from 200+.
On the plus side...acc runs out in around 10 days. |

Unfortunately, as I have stated multiple times, CCP are unable to properly optimize any sort of graphics performance.
How hard can be it be to actually fix things? Let me decide how snazzy a GUI / graphics I want. If it was up to me it was all stick figures and everything would run smoothly even running 10 clients.
Alas, CCP insists on bringing new graphical "features" turning each and every computer out there into an oven.

Have you tried turning off all sound effects in eve?
Might "sound" odd, but if it's not the graphics then maybe the sound of you locking is causing CPU issues - which could cause the GPU to have issues.
(just hitting mute doesn't test it) |

Tried that long time ago, disabled eve sound and restarted eve. Still FPS drop. Freaking insane. |

A long long time ago there have been firewalls identified as causes for FPS drops, albeit those were random ones and I haven't come across one of those cases in years.
Sellendis, as your FPS drops only appear to happen when you lock targets and making the whole thing pretty reproducible for you, it would probably be best to try and catch this with our logserver tool, and include that log alongside a DxDiag file into a bug report to have this looked into further by Bughunters and Developers. It might also be worth checking if the graphics driver eventually loads some sort of profile for EVE that could eventually cause this with some odd setting. |

Report ID is 116491
No firewalls or AV in background to choke the system. Audio drivers installed or not, eve sound on or off doesn't make any difference. It was all fine 2-3 months ago.
On the account of a profile for the VGA, unless ATI screwed up (again) i didn't make any custom profiles, and clean windows install rules out the leftover files/profiles from previous driver versions. |
