I was thinking much the same thing.
CCP: Join me, and we can rule the galaxy as MMO and RTS. Come with me. It's the only way. Ironclad: I'll never join you!
Er, right.... back to work

I find a few similiarities already. There is a system called Jitka and Ishtar. A few of the capital ships look alot like EVE ships. Then again everything reminds me of Homeworld. Basically this game is Homeworld 3.
And yes, this game is EPIC good. The devs seem very interested in maxing the game.
CCP mod would be neat, just tell Tuxford to hide his nerf bat from Sins.

No, theres no European publisher yet. You can either buy it in e-distribution format (download it) or you can import it from the US. Theres no region encoding (or indeed, copy protection) so the US version will work fine in the UK. ------

Never thought id say this, but now i am starting to get bored of this game.
some reasons.
Politics is bull, its pretty much backstab. Anti frigate ship spams, and other spams are starting to put me off, usually the noobs do it since its the simplar way, it does give them good advantage at the start.
plus the time it takes to finnish a game it was awesome at first, but now i just know my day is f****d if i start one.

Ah finally, I have found a decent single player game that I can play even if the crap hotel I am staying at doesn't have WiFi.
My first few hours:
Do the tutorials, and feel like they are not really telling me enough, teasing me and laughing behind my back.
So I plunge into a single player, me vs AI, single star game. Manage to get some research going, blunder around the interface, found out why I can't research the greyed out tech, and remedy it by building some structures.
My frigate factory churns out a couple of scout ships, and off they trot. I seem to be at the far end of a phase chain, so they go to the next planet along. Oh god, it's occupied! Quick, shoot off, only one other direction they can go in. Oh crap, that's occupied too. They're shooting at me? 2 more directions, send one scout off in each direction.
I then forget about the scouts. Poor guys. Focus back on my planet as I get a "Pirate" warning. Well, wtf is that all about? Hmm. I seem to remember reading about pirates. So I muster a (what I hope is a decent) fleet together. Pirates take ages to arrive, so I am diverted to my research which has finished really quickly and is sitting idle. Oh. Realise I can *queue* research (I'm good, me), and let that ***** on, as the next planet along is an ice planet, and needs to be researched.
Ah, here are the pirates. A rag-tag bunch, and I notice some of their ships are shot up already. I tell my guys to engage, handily applying my leet Eve skillz to pick primary targets. Interestingly, some ships do bugger all damage, some sit at range and fling missiles which seem to wtfpwn. I make a mental note. My sentry guns (whatever they're called) aren't doing anything.. maybe out of range. Another mental note.
Pirates are vanquished, good guys win- hooray. Build up fleet and go and shoot the guys around the ice system. Then build a planet shooting frig and bust up the ice world. Then I colonise it- yay. More damn pirates turn up, and start shooting my fledgling colony! I quickly whip up a frigate factory, and bring in my fleet from the home planet and hand out some beatings. These guys are a bt tougher than the last rabble, and I take heavy losses. I still win though.
Then wifey implies that it really is good for my health for me to leave it and come to bed. As I shut the laptop, I realise that I have an effectively FREE capital ship that I completely forgot to build ... man i love this game so far! -- 2d EveMaps

Sure, see the thread over at Scrapheap, plenty of them play online. The online games can be saved and resumed later, which is pretty neat. -- 2d EveMaps

Once you get the hang of it, the AIs start getting boring pretty fast. It's not a major feat of prowess to beat 3 teamed-up "hard random" AIs as a single player once you start "knowing" the game well enough.
The only real opponent is a human opponent

This being Stardock, you can likely expect some AI upgrades in the near future. The AI for GalCiv was pretty naff for the months following launch too, and look how that turned out in the end. ------

Persuasive enough. Couldn't find it on stores around here, distributors in Spain being the lazy incompetent bastards they are, so I just bought it as a download from the official website. 69% still to go, looking forward to this.

Your spanish distributors aren't the only lazy incompetent bastards At the moment Stardock doesn't have a European distributor. None of them were willing to take the game on, because there apparently "was no market for a space game" over here. At the moment SD is rather busy proving them wrong and racking in cash through their digital downloads, so maybe some european distributors want a piece of the pie now.

Honestly, I have no idea why they'd even WANT a distributor. What's more likely, break your DVD, or be unable to get Internet access ? I mean, EVE has no distributor nowadays, the client is larger than that of SoaSE (well, at least the premium, the classic is about on par), and it works just fine.
Heck, they don't even HAVE any copy-protection schemes... all you actually pay for (and get in form of a key) is access to their matchmaking service and a permanent place to download a backup copy of the game from (I was about to say "client", heh) in case you need it.
For all intents and purposes, this game is SHAREWARE If you don't want to give them any money, there's little to stop you from doing so. But honestly, they DO deserve the cash, for so many reasons I can't begin to completely describe, one of them being the fact they don't have a copy-protection, and a whole lot of reasons related to just how awesome this game is.

Edited by: Ore Machine on 23/02/2008 21:45:23 Edited by: Ore Machine on 23/02/2008 21:45:05 I've started redoing interface assets, front-end video, and string swaps for a possible EVE total conversion.
There is a bug in 1.02 that is messing up the 'Textures' folder in mods. Basically, if you change 1 file and have to create a new Textures folder in your mod, you need to copy ALL the game textures or nothing else will load. (Once you reference a texture in your mod, the game needs all assets to be in there). They are apparently fixing this in 1.03, so in a little while mods will be actually manageable if major assets are changed.
I've e-mailed Wrangler and CCP about the possibility of using the EVE I.P. (ala the Homeworld 2 modification), but am awaiting a response. If I get the green light, a friend an I are going to start production as soon as we can. (Girlfriend is leaving in March for 2 weeks... \o/ for free time!)
Biggest problems seem like getting the EVE content into Sins format, and hacking it so there are 4 races instead of 3. (Could always make the Minmatar the 'Pirates' )
TL;DR summary: For now, its all just profile changes, string swaps, and interface art. If I get the green light from CCP? Production will start on a total conversion modification.

Yes, very good game. I was looking through the different ships, and some designs do seem to borrow a bit from EVE's (excellent) models, but then who doesn't borrow when coming up with anything at all. Ironclad name is "Isiskhan".

This game's stock "mapmaker" that comes with the game is a powerful tool. In just about an hour, I created a map that gave me 50x more gameplay time on, just because it was so great.
Tweaking perfection, however, took days, and provided many more days of gameplay.
Sins of a Solar Empire is a definite keeper. -
