long ago, the EVE client was able to play .mp3 files, this was discontinued due to the.mp3 format being a non-open source/non-free codec. This means that for ccp to include .mp3 decoding functionality in the client, they would have to pay a royalty to the peeps that made the format in the 1st place. I personally used to use the EVE Jukebox back in those days, then it too was nerfed, along with so much else, and i've had to revert to Winamp for playing my tunes whilst whizzing about the galaxy.

Most music players allow you to set global key-shortcuts you can use inside EVE too, for skipping songs and so on. Alternative, play in windowed mode and toggle your player to always stay on top, this way you have your playlist or whatever showing constantly (as well as full and clear view of who's on the Vent/TS user roster)
A little bump for fancy player: www.foobar2000.org A simple player, no mumbo jumbo, it does it's job and is highly customizable, though not much eye candy on it.
Enjoy, and fly safe..

ahh! so sad... I remember in Motor City Online you could just drop your MP3's into thier folder and play them on your car stereos in game. You could set up different channels for different genres. So, you are saying that the makers of Winamp; ie: Nullsoft own the rights to the MP3 codec? I find that very hard to believe. I can play MP3's in Winamp, Windows media player and lots of other apps. I can play them in my car on my car stereo, I can play them whilst I ski or run or anything I want other than playing pew pew? /sigh
After all that is said, I use WMP to play my music while I am in Eve... Q |

Why not run WinAmp or your own choise of MP3 player in the background? Why have CCP spending valuable resources on something completely unneccesary? Just turn off the music in EVE and start up your Winamp player!

CCP does this and half the RMAA and his buddies will be battling down CCP's door, stating that they want royalties on all possible songs playable by their mp3 in their game.
That and tons of other licensing issues I missed.
Just use winamp in the background. Far less hassle. -

CCP is based in Iceland not America... That hasn't stopped them before though :(

cause if eve had it's own mp3 player you could have sound effects activated without it crashing all the time when hearing music?
Imo it would be cool if the ingame browser was enhanced with some player- accessable thingy so you can make your own add-ins for eve. then including an mp3 player wouldnt be a license issue by ccp but by each player themselfes (and we know how less private persons care about license issues).

I taught Eve runs on Windows, isn't it? Why couldm't the client make calls to Windows to play mp3? Windows could decode and play mp3 in Eve, couldn't it and it woudl be free because Widnows play it? --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!
