MMO network cards
I know it aint going to improve the server side of things, but am just wondering if anybody had tried one and if they had an effect?
I know Alienware have started adding them to there rigs so there must be something behind them.
Plus ive got 1 free pci slot

Did anyone try to grease their network cables with snake oil? I've heard, it makes the packets slide faster through the cables...

I've read a few reviews of these and other similar cards, your talking about improvements of a few tens of milliseconds at best, and "normal" lag in Eve like module activation etc, is probably at least 250-500 milliseconds anyway, their claims of improving frames per second by offloading processing to its onboard CPU are doubtful at best, since on modern CPUs the amount of processing required is minimal, what they do have going for them is inbuilt QOS (quality of service) processing, so you can hammer your connection on bittorrent or FTP downloads while your games will be *less* effected (not unaffected as the card has little control over external connections sending you data, esp. with bittorrent), also onboard processing should in thorey at least lead to less traffic over the PCI bus, weather that makes any performance difference is another matter though...
Worth the money? probaley not, routers that do QOS are just as cheep and more usefull, and if you can possable shave 10-20ms off a gameing server, your probaley playing on a server that has too high a ping anyway, don't think it'll make any differance to Eve at all imho.
Would i buy one for the ultimate gameing rig? yeah probaley -

They look interesting but the problem is there is to much damn stuff inside your case anyway with sound processors, multi GPU options and possibly Phys Ex to. The newer mainboards have less PCI slots to so its going to difficult to find room.
ú100ish doesn't look to bad though if you could pick them up in a sale or special offer I would consider it.

Yeh, I have one and it roxxx. It opens a wormhole on your end, and an exit hole where your destination is. Then it pours your paquets into the hole. You need to be careful though, because the wormhole can become clogged depending on how many internets you are sending through it, in which case your ping will increase from 20ms to next Tuesday.
Seriously though, it's a $200 NIC with a big Killer Instinct logo on it.

I saw a couple of reviews for these a while back, most said the difference was negligible(2-3%). You'll get a better performance boost from a new processor or graphics card tbh.
Or if network performance is that important you spend the money on a better ISP. ---

This is 2% of a very small number though (For someone with an average ping about 1ms) considering human thinking time is about 300ms, you'd be better off just concentrating REALLY hard
Not to mention this will be even less if you have a decent NIC/motherboard with decent onboard already, which most people this product is aimed at will have. ---
