So what would be the best way to handle anti-cloak? I was thinking some sort of hi-slot that decloaks stuff in a 2.5km (arbitrary value) radius around the destroyer. It could use up a decent amount of cap (equivalent to an MWD or something) so having to cap balance it would be part of the fit.

A cloaked ship within 2500m of anything decloaks. |

As you can tell I only recently started playing EVE again
But as I said, arbitrary value, it's the mechanism that I was talking about. Either that, or ability to drop 'decloak' spheres, though that might be a bit unbalanced. |

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
We need navy destroyers.
Give them all just a little buff.
Examples: Extra speed for -min Extra drones for - gallente Resist bonus- caldari Laser buff- amarr
Something along those lines.
Just make the buffs tiny and balanced.
Won't replace cruisers because faction destroyer will probly cost more.
Easy to program since it uses existing hulls. |

I didn't come up with this alone, their was a whole solar system discussing it earlier. I just REALLY like the idea. We're not all into combat, and I have yet to see a +5% to hacking on anything, ship-wise. I like this idea. Make them some middle ground utility ships types. Like Osprey or Scythe for those not wanting to get out of the destroyer hull just yet. Lets not get hung up on our modern convention of what a destroyer is. Its better to think of it just as a hull size type. Some Utility and Mining versions would be cool. Better versions of the Frigate mining ships would be nice. A hull with a Hacking bonus and role bonus like that sound like fun. Not all ships need to be PvP Beasts. Its just about adding so variety to the hull type. We have crazy amounts of frig, cruiser, BC and BS hulls.
Although non combat deserves some attention, it should not be with destroyers. It should be some thing for industrial and ORE, instead of a destroyer feat.

For T1's Gall use blasters and drones, the current destroyer uses blasters, give us a drone version (25m3 bandwidth, 5% to drone damage per level?)
Caldari use rails and Missiles, the current one uses rails, give us a missile version
Minmater us... projectiles, some missiles... As with the mini combat cruisers, you get a ganker or a speed tanker (rupture vs stabber) how about a fast destroyer with a tracking bonus: 5% to max velocity per level, 7.5 to tracking per level?
Amarr use: mainly lasers, an oddball missile frig and a drone cruiser: meh, here I'd go with gank vs tank: a 5%armor resist per level in place of the laser damage bonus (but as with many amarr ships, I think the 10% cap use bonus needs to be looked at).
Roles? meh the same one, but allowing more flexibility in skill paths. A newb training for a vexor could find the "new" gallente destroyer more suited to his/her skill path. Same goes for a caldari pilot going for a caracal/Drake/Raven |

Although I-¦m a huge fan of missiles, the moment a 7 launcher hardpoint destroyer shows up, you make the already hardly used caracal compleet useless, and quite some frigates as well.
As said before, fix cruisers and see if there is a niece left for a destroyer. Already the Caracal is this ship you fly untill you-¦ve got the money and skills for a Drake, that is about a month.

A gallente drone destroyer that can put out 5 light drones. or 2 med and 3 light.
A Caldari destroyer with light missile bonuses. Not rockets mind you but light missiles. So people might actually use them pvp.
A minnie one with no weapon bonus just a bonus to Shield boosting or something lame since the Minnieone is already good.
A Amarr one with a bonuse to Neuts or something.
There are lots of interesting things that could be done with the class of ships. That give you more options and make them interesting.
And not all of them have to be good. Just having options is nice sometimes.

I tend to see the destroyer as a backbone for frigate fleets and cheap PvP gangs. In order to add variety to the destroyer class, you would have to come up with something different to just a ratio of tank/dps. Perhaps something that gives new players a chance to move cheaply onto some of the more advanced aspects of fleet wars.
Suggestion: Secondary Logistic Destroyers The idea would be to provide an alternative destroyer that sacrifices DPS for the ability to act as a force multiplier for the small gangs they are typically used with. We have already established that destroyers are just easy targets for Cruiser battles and above, hence their support abilities wouldn't be too overpowering in larger fights. Some of these would require a few extra modules that could be fitted to larger ships, but could be prevented from abuse with CPU bonuses similar to Covert Ops Cloak.
Shield and Armour tanking are of very limited use in Frigate PvP, so each of the destroyers would be filling an unconventional, racial support role. See below for suggested attributes to be supported by Destroyer skill.
Minmatar: Remote Auxiliary Engine Regulators - + 5% maximum velocity per level on targetted ship. Max 1 module per target. Gallente: Remote Drone link Augmenters - +5% drone damage/tracking+speed/health per level on targetted ship. Max 1 module per target. Caldari: Remote Signature Masking ECM - -5% sig radius per level on targetted ship. Max 1 module per target. Amarr: (probably using existing modules) Capacitor Transfer Array - +5% capacitor transferred per level. Max 1 module per target.
Just throwing my two cents in, but along with the suggestion of "some mechanic to detect cloakers", there doesn't seem to be anything that puts destroyers forward for the role they were really designed for: Being a backbone for frigate and anti-frigate fleets. |

Fact is: T1 Destroyers are doing a very good job against Frigates. No need to provide more anti-frigate power for that low price. T2 Destroyers have a role as interdictors and in addtion are even better aginst Frigates then their T1 counterpart. Again, really no need for more dps against small targets.
The only thing which might be open for discussion from my point of view would be a T2 Torpedo Boat Destroyer. Similar to the StealthBomber, a glass canon but with no cloak but twice that torpedo slots instead. So a fleet of these Torpedo Boat destroyers would be a real danger to large ships... if they are not popped in time. This would foster the need for frigate and T1-Dessy support for BS fleets. |

EvE is a video game. More ships are always better, and CCP should be adding them, all the time.
Do you really think that in a universe as big as EvE, there are only going to be 4 classes of Assault Ships per race??
Where is the immersion?
In real life, my family and I have built / designed several of our own vehicles from scratch. Why can't I do that in Eve? I want lots and lots of frigates, and destroyers, and all kinds of different ships, and I want to be able to customize them all with different parts, different paint schemes and logo designs, different colour engine trails... EvE is my favourite game ever, but is still far from the Sandbox it could and should be. I think CCP should stop working on stuff like Dust {which I still think is cool} and focus more on making Eve better. HAI GUISE |

Adding Hulls is always a good idea!
I really dont see a good reason why there is only 1 version per race for destroyers.
How about giving small gangs some love. New Destroyer t1 hull with different bonuses than damage, some utility like shield transfer and remote armor rep. A t2 variant to this hull could be a like the little brother of the command ships, with limited fleet bonuses to lets say 5 ships. |

why not use the destroyer hull for the industrialist attention? ORE destroyer bonuses,
ORE dessy 1 ~mining laser cpu decrease 5% per skill level (or whatever, but not so that it mines more then say a retriever or osprey)
or the hacking ship idea, ~5% (or whatever) to hacking module duration +/- sucess
ship scanner idea, ~ range+acuracy bonus on all types of ship/cargo scanners
anti cloak destroyer ideas ~active ping, like modern sonar, you can ping a system ~acts like a cyno, stops you dead in space lights you up like a cyno ~gives general directions to cloakers, like anom hits on a probe, has a range of say, 10 au, or whatever, ~cycle time of 60 seconds, skillable down to 45 seconds.
~~or could be another probe type, useable on on dessys like the interdiction probes.
