Edited by: sxy lexi on 18/02/2008 05:25:35 so they fix a problem . not all by far admitedly but still they fix an issue, and all you can do is whine that they didn't do more. There is an old saying that you catch more flys with honey than vinegar. Perhaps if there was a Tad bit of encouragement you'd get more of these fixes you spend a nice portion of time complaining about.
As far as three hours to deploy the patch i agree it should only take 10 minutes because we all know all patches tested on SISY go off with out a hitch on the main server theres no reason to give it a final test before everyone starts loging back in . ( for thoes of you blessed enough not to recognise sarcasim consider this an introduction.)

Originally by: Zyrus Corporation I am sorry, but this is obviously NOT true. I was on Singularity a few days ago and I detected one obvious change: There was a tab in the Overview so that you could faster switch between your overview settings! That maybe no bugfix, but a new feature... but it is an obvious change! Are there more of these changes?
Singularity is not running the 1.0.2 patch which this thread is announcing. It's running the 1.1.0 patch, which contains the majority of fixes and new features, but is not ready for release yet.
Releasing 1.0.2 allows them to fix people having trouble logging in, without having to wait for fancy things like overview tabs to be tested and polished. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

Singularity is being used for testing Trinity 1.1, while this release Trinity 1.0.2 is being tested on Multiplicity.

Originally by: Sylthi Edited by: Sylthi on 16/02/2008 09:27:19 I have to admit, this one takes the cake. I have become acceptant of (but not comfortable with) the symmetry of CCP's Neolithic incompetence when it comes to patch deployment over the past 4 3/4 years. But, this one, I have to admit, will go down in legend.
Build 45943 to 49137 and a fairly standard (for patch DTs) 3 hours to deploy one fix? Frankly I find it downright insulting that they think the majority of the community is stupid enough to swallow that one.
Or, rather, the devs BETTER be lying to us about the extent of this patch to cover up stealth nerfs and silently upgraded security features. If not, I will be simply dumbfounded at the devs ability to sink to a new low level of my previously mentioned "Neolithic incompetence." Wait...... I have to take that back, now that I think of it. That term is incorrect of me technically. It will no longer technically fall under the term "incompetence" IF the patch goes well. I will then have to apply the term of "legendary laziness" to the dev team for wasting MONTHS since Trinity and only coming up with one fix.
So, to be honest, I am now actually very curious as to which of the three it is. What do you all think?
Option 1: They are directly insulting our intelligence by expecting us to believe an obvious lie.
Option 2: It is a continuation of their "Neolithic incompetence" through the fact that in ALL of the time since trinity they have only gotten ONE of the MANY elements they tried to work well enough to go live.
Option 3: They have strove for a new adjective in "legendary laziness" through the fact that they have only actually WORKED on one element to go live in the past months.
Perhaps it is something else I haven't thought of. Something darker and more abysmal, and a stronger example of the outright theft of our subscription money. Time will tell I suppose.....
To the people that were suffering from this bug (not me) I am glad you guys are getting fixed. But, no matter how you look at it, this patch is an example of how poorly CCP treats/thinks of the community paying their salaries. If they are telling the truth, and this is the only thing getting fixed; I have to ask: Why did such a critical bug for some of the users take months to fix? Then there are the questions I implied above.
No matter what way you look at this, its a poor showing CCP.
Unless, and this is a BIG "unless"; this patch is in preparation for the anticipated "boost patch" to be released in a VERY short time after they are done with this. But, my years of poor service experience from CCP tells me to doubt that very much.....
CCP, you aren't going to be able to depend on being the ONLY decent sci-fi starship MMO on the net to save you for much longer. There are some very exciting titles due out this year in this same genre. Time to get your act together if you want to forestall a mass player exodus....
I know exactly which games you're talking about and I'm pretty excited about all of them. I don't want to leave EvE as the people here are great but I too am tired of the bugs. CCP please fix them before EvE, and subsequently yourselves, get nerfed. I'm a Goon Titan alt, don't tell anyone. |

Star Trek Online features ambulation, you could always play that as it serves no purpose in EvE unless planets can be mined and fought on which I doubt. And if planets can be fought on then that might make space combat irrelevant, nice to have a fleet and then use hand to hand combat don't you think?
People need to stop whining about ambulation. I'm a Goon Titan alt, don't tell anyone. |

I for one am looking forward to this patch and many more patches like this.
Small single-issue patches for a few hours downtime.
Why am I looking forward to these patches?
Obviously the decrease in lag that EVE will get, when all the whiners and moaners will be gone.
Bring on the Diet Patches CCP, will be great to get rid of all these ungrateful bastards that EVE has picked up over the 4-5 years. I for one am quite happy to pay the monthly subscription for EVE... Sure, EVE has its flaws... But so does everything... Just look at the American Legal System. Or the Australian Government. Or my car.
Or how about looking at yourself in the mirror?
Or, how about this... When the people here who say they do coding and love to flex their e-muscle going "Pffft, that's not how you do it I don't believe your lies because I have Tin Foil Hat at V. This is how I do it, so it must be right!" create their own MMO... I'll pay for 3 months and play it every day. No really, I will... Even if it costs me $100 for that 3 months.
But in that three months, I'll; Submit 10,000+ petitions a day, for things that the game was designed to do, but I'm going to be a 'whiner' and complain for the sake of it Post 1,000+ times on the forum about the UI being 2 pixels out at the bottom Post 5,000+ times on the forum about the lack of support from the DEVs, that they should all fire themselves and that the game is a piece of **** Post 10,000+ times that module/ship/whatever 'X' needs to be changed because it isn't fair that it is WTFPWN'ing me compared to my module/ship/whatever 'Y' that is deliberately less superior.
Then after that 3 months... I'll keep my subscription going, because it's actually a good game and I enjoy it, whereas if I didn't, I could just as easily go play another game.
Unless of course your game actually is ****, then I'll go back to EVE.
*Ahem* So yeah... Bring on the tiny patches CCP... Pwwwwwwweeeeaaaaasssseee? Sig nerfz0rd. Remember kids, it's 400x120 and less than 24,000 bytes (not kbytes) -Conuion Meow

Um, 2 questions:
- where are the fixes for other known / important issues?
- why does a patch with just this one change require an extended DT (3 hours)?
EVE Online: a cold, cruel world where (RL-)rich people replace their losses with GTCs sold to poor students who need to farm ISK to afford their play time ...

ok last batch stopped my laptop working, and it was upgrading graphics
This patch is changing the core login into the game, ow god help us all!!!!
3 hours means either they are completly rewritting the routine and testing it..... or they are sneaking in some other stuff they cant tell us about...ie covert patch.

Not sure if it's a bug, or just the way my system is set up BUT... My laptop is setup to be part of the network at work, whenever i want to play EVE I have to make sure that network is connected (either by cable at work or via VPN at home) before I load the app, otherwise the app just falls over and the instance of it disapears. I work in IT so any technical reasons would be appreciated.

You can't get in, that's probably because it's not 14:00 GMT yet.
But what is of more concern to me is that i had to reaccept the EULA, and also, when i quit the client, it asked me confirmation on quitting. Ths indicates i might have lost my settings?
Please let me not recreate my overview settings again and again and again, especially not for such a small minor patch being applied

Heh, well... The patch was released... So I downloaded it and updated... After the update the updater told me that I had to restart because some files were 'locked' or something until it was restarted.
Sooo... I restarted, and now... The splash appears for the briefest of nanoseconds... And then nothing... Imma go to bed and check back here for the next patch to fix this issue.
Can't wait to see how many people have threatened to quit the game when I wake up ;)

I'm thinking there will be a patch for the patch before the game goes live and we are allowed to login. Based on downloading the patch, applying said patch, and still having an incompatible protocol.
