Hello,
Im just getting the hang of this PI thing and have a few basic P0 extraction setups running atm.
I just wanted to know if there is a preferred planet to setup a processing factory to turn my P0 stuff into P4 stuff. Also any setup tips would be very helpful.
Intially im starting fairly small but will eventually grow my PI income and have another toon trained up, totalling 8 planets worth of PI activity.
I have trained command centre skill to level 3 atm.
Thanks for your time and thoughts. |

Well, it's only possible to place down the processor for P3->P4 on barren or temperate planets. Other than that . . . not really. I prefer temperate because the scenery is nicer.
Edit: Setup Ideas - My factory planet right now is one spaceport per P3 production, with one P3->P4 High Tech Production Plant between them. Each spaceport has 2 factories for P1->P2 per P3 input, and then one P2->P3 factory. This lets me keep the High tech processor busy 50% of the time. |

On each of my factory planets I produce two different P4 items. It takes just under two days for a factory to run through 10k M3 of P1 mats. Producing 6 to 8 of each, depending. |

There are lots of different ways to approach this ... here's mine.
I run some fairly intensive PI that produces a heap of POS-fuel components as well as P4 (wetware mainframe) items. I have 30 or so harvesting planets feeding into four dedicated factory planets. The factory planets are run by the one character: One is on a barren planet (for making the P4s) and the others are on any-old planet.
Each harvesting planet extracts a single raw material and processes to P1. One factory planet makes all the POS-fuel components from P1. Two factory planets make the P2 and one of the P3 components each for the wetwares. The final factory planet, on the barren, does the same for the third p3 component and also has three plants synthesising the wetwares from the P3 materials.
My setup is labour intensive and can be fiddly. It can probably be setup or run more efficiently, but it does bring in some decent income and I only check and haul stuff every few days ... once I have cleared my system of more valuable resources.
So, if you need to produce P4 materials then your factories will need to be on barren planets. Otherwise they can be on any planet type ... just choose one you're not wanting to use for other things.

As far as factory planet choice, location relative to your extraction planets and where you sell are probably the only major factor.
As far as hints and tips goes. The higher tier product you can produce on your extraction planet the less you have to haul

Key criteria:
As has been mentioned, you can only process to P4 in a barren or temperate planet. Pick a small planet. (less resources wasted on links) Pick planets which are in the same system as your extraction planets, if at all possible.
Oh and one last thing - exporting P0 materials is not a very good idea generally though with POCOs this may be viable if you have a 0% tax rate - you will find that for the sake of convenience, most people process to P1 before exporting. |
