Tranquility will undergo an extended downtime on Wednesday, 20 February. The start time is 11:00 GMT and the length of the downtime is expected to be three hours. During this time, a patch will be applied to Trinity consisting of one fix to correct the problems caused by the Trinity 1.0.2 patch.
Patch Notes are now available. Any updates will be highlighted with green text.

An absolutely classic CCP moment. Trinity 1.0.3 deploying a single fix to fix the single fix in 1.0.2 that broke something else.
Better luck this time guys. Shame the extended downtime will be on my day "working from home".

Wrangler, I sincerely hope your salary is in the top tier of CCP, especially since you are the one who has to put up with so much crap from both sides.

Very nice, I did everything you wanted me to do in the "News". Deleted the Eve-folder, deleted the whole eve-client. Nothing worked. Still incompatible.
GREAT JOB CCP

I'm only interested why 3 hours downtime (plus theres always one more hour because of server not starting) for a 1 fix patch, and also I didn't had any problems so no fix for me.

So to fix a minor error you created a patch that introduced a bigger error, and to fix this you create a new patch that...
I'm afraid of where this is going...

O.o and why do this need three hours? I asked this myself for the today patch but now I really need to ask why this need three further hours to fix a client issue?

Can we expect another extended DT on Thursday to fix the problems from the patch on Wednesday that was meant to fix the problems from Tuesday?
Another in a list of silly patches brought to you by CCP

So what will not work tomorrow? Shall we maybe need to buy a new computer with a special eve-windows? Or do we maybe wait to 2.999999999 patch to arrive to hoppefully fix all other failpatches since 1.0.1??

Step by Step Guide
Windows (XP and Vista):
1. Press START and select Run on Windows XP, in Vista, press START and paste the link into "Start search" ( which is directly above the START button " Easiest is to use the Windows button on your keyboard + R ( works on both Vista and XP ). 2. Copy "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\CCP" ( without the " ) into the address bar of the window that opened. 3. Remove the folder called "EVE". 4. Start the game and log in.
Have completed this, still have "incompatible version"
wtf?

The little know-how provided by CCP doesn't work for me. I found the EVE settings/cache directory in the C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP path. The problem is that both the local settings and the application data folders are hidden ones, so its necessary to turn off the hiding of the hidden files in the explorer to be able to see these folders (can't help with the exact steps, I have a localized windows, but its under something called tools/folder settings/view/special settings/hidden files or folders, apply to all folders)

What complete rubbish ccp.. you have taken a game that worked fine till this patch and now doesnt afterwards.. EPIC FAIL.. u might consider testing these things ahead of time.. and if the answer is there was testing done and this still occurred... then there may be an opportunity to return some of your labour to the welfare line.. totally unacceptable intrusion of game play time..

I don't know much about computers but have just followed this advice for XP:
Press START and select Run on Windows XP, in Vista, press START and paste the link into "Start search" ( which is directly above the START button " Easiest is to use the Windows button on your keyboard + R ( works on both Vista and XP ). Copy "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\CCP" ( without the " ) into the address bar of the window that opened. Remove the folder called "EVE". Start the game and log in.
and it worked for me. I'm in. But oh dear. After the boot.ini thingy I would have thought they would have tested this. Dissapointed *sigh*

Excuse me, I find it pretty irritating to have to sacrifice 3 hrs prime playing time for a stupid-ass thing like this. And I'm btw posting as constructively as you are patching atm.

Hey All
I followed Lazarus (Tut) post and it worked for me (XP Pro). Hope this doesn't mean the patch deployed on 20th will mess things up again!
Luckily I set off a 14 day skill before DT

This part is for all of you that haven't played eve for over 4 yrs: this is not a one time incident or isolated issue. every major patch or update that ccp has performed since i started playing has involved "repatching" to fix and repair. believe it or not, the dt's and reboots from patching/updating were so bad several yrs ago, that ccp granted all eve'ers 1 day of free game time.
this part is for ccp: eve is a great game. it has kept me interested for over 4 yrs. my only suggestion to ccp is that you take all your patches/updates/upgrades home and play them on your average joe machines. your box dell builds. your standard home builds. that way you mess up your machine and not mine. i think that if you were screwing up you own personal machine that you would take more care with mine.
this is for everyone: this all said, remember, we are dealing with a game that has so much content and data that it would be hard to keep up with all the branches in the programing. i'm sure that if you wanted to pay for your update/upgrades/patches, that ccp would be more than happy to do "WOW" upgrades and not give them to us for free. personally, i've done wow. i don't wont to pay for my upgrades.
ccp, keep chuggin'! just do it better!

I've done all that you've directed me to do and it still doesn't work
While you are fixing up the patch can you go see if my character needs to be training a new skill??? I'm pretty sure I need to start training a new skill today... Can you just make sure that you train a long skill for me then you can take all the time you like fixing whatever you've done

This really ticks me off ... I have to restate another posters comment... I'd like proof that your software developement team also has a QA team working with them. We all pay to play... how about reimbursement for lost game time?

Edited by: Macdeth on 19/02/2008 22:01:27 Hey CCP guys, now that you're doing daily patches, please push out some low-risk client UI fixes like: - Ships/Items breaking on ship-change & setting autopilot destination - Capital Navigation Window's close button doesn't work until you minimize & right click - Contracts window start page not being initially clickable because although visible, it isn't "raised" until you click its tab
Saving low-risk client-only fixes for things that drive us batty daily until major patches is, quite frankly, insane. Especially when they're things that probably don't even require a machonet version bump. You probably don't have any staff resources dedicated toward patch management, hence why you save up for monolithic patches, but I would posit that doing so would be worthwhile to improve the quality of your finished product.
Edit: And while I'm at it, please make some server-side changes to the chat/evemail/corp application & related systems such that you can silently filter any message that contains a blacklisted string, and then maintain a blacklist of all the isk seller website domain names. It probably only needs to strip white space (although maybe flexibility for other tokens is best) because if the domain name is mangled too badly, nobody will ever get through to it to buy, unlike with, say, viagra/cialis spam.

I have played this game since a week or so since it got out of beta.
WTF is up with the constant FUBAR'ed patches this is the 3rd on since Dec or so by my count. Your making CCP the laughingstock of the coding community. Have you guys been secretly replacing your devs with Microsoft employees or has ***** finally arrived to the shores of Iceland?
