Edited by: Carter Burke on 20/02/2008 00:30:46 Oh HEY!
Guess what?!?!
It's not "Application Data" on Vista, you ass hats, It is C:\Program Data. While there is an Application Data directory there, it is not the right directory.
Why does it not surprise me in the slightest to discover that CCP has not thought through properly how to fix stuff?
Geez, guys, this is a computer. It takes specific, exact instructions, kiddies.
Clue.
CB
P.S. For those of you on Vista having this trouble, here's the steps:
1. Go to C:\Program Data. 2. Find the "CCP" folder in it. 3. You can kill that folder.
Re-start Eve. That should get you in. It worked for me.

It is obvious that a lot of ppl are not happy with not being able to log in to continue using Eve. I am starting to think it is a waste of money.

I run Windows Xp home. The instructions at the above link worked for me. I was nervous to delete any files after the boot.ini debacle, so i copied the folder to my desktop before deleting it from the path it belongs in. Or, i guess doesnt belong in. Anyway, turned out to be unnecessary.
Logging in with ease was getting a little boring. Thanks CCP for creating an issue! (and, uh, for providing the fix)
Peace, fly safe!

hmmm ... do I pay for this? folks - you're not sincere. Where is your quality assurance? I've undergone a lot of donwtimes during my playing - but I pay for it?? You're like MS - pay for badly developed software?
Do I have to accept this?
However, I wish you all the best for your patch-fixing and stuff...

CCP I love this game
I complained alot in the previous trinity 1.02 patch and am still reeling from the effects
but I know its hard on your Dev team. Best of luck ok Dev team and don't let us silly gamers get to ya. It is your job after all and I have no great knowledge about game dev at all...
Great job so far and Dev team and all goodluck
oh yes for mac users in order to play 1.02 you need to delete the WHOLE EVEonline preferences file in the users/library/preferences folder :)
good luck CCP Best wishes to the dev and sorry for the rants (the kid in me still lurks)

So ok we can sighn in a LITTLE faster but still probs with station services and ships/items hanger if merged into station services. Undocking and docking seems to fix problem but a pain if you have to do many things in station services. Maybe one day we can play without any problems. |

I tried this, but..... CCP isn't a folder there. In fact there is nothing relating to EVE. Any thoughts? I'm running Vista (sadly), and can't find anything following any other instructions given earlier.
I don't know if anyone else gets this but, my client won't even come up. The splash screen comes up for a split second, then dies. I'm downloading the baseline client now to see what happens.

I think CCP deserve a bit of stick to be honest. Ordinarily, I don't have many problems when it comes to patches and when I do, everyone has them and they're comparatively minor in the grand scheme of things.
When I attempted to log on last night, saw the issue with auto-download and then somehow managed to download it, to be confronted with the 'Incompatable' message, I just went to bed. I looked at the forums first but had no intention of messing around with files that I should never have to touch and that may cause problems with the client or further patches down the line. I was fairly certain that CCP would release a subsequent patch that would fix it.
They will tonight so, great no harm done for me at least. (I hope)
But you have to get a little suprised at least by the fact that the patch obviously hadn't been tested; that the information from CCP about the nature of the problem and the solution was slow to surface (Yet again); and that they were content for the users to take responsibility for getting their screw-up fixed with potentially disastrous consequences.
Not everyone here is a tech.
Not very clever. I'll never quit this game over these kind of screw-ups but someone should be getting slapped for it. |

Does anyone else think it strange that the patch patched 26 (or was it 56) items yet they told us that only 1 bug about protocols was being fixed? I can understand that it might be possible if the same buggy code was included into a number of executables... but there are not that many executables in Eve. I wonder what else was patched and why they did not want to tell us?

Originally by: Lazarus Tut I don't know much about computers but have just followed this advice for XP:
Press START and select Run on Windows XP, in Vista, press START and paste the link into "Start search" ( which is directly above the START button " Easiest is to use the Windows button on your keyboard + R ( works on both Vista and XP ). Copy "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\CCP" ( without the " ) into the address bar of the window that opened. Remove the folder called "EVE". Start the game and log in.
and it worked for me. I'm in. But oh dear. After the boot.ini thingy I would have thought they would have tested this. Dissapointed *sigh*
worked beautifully for me (this is old news I'm sure but I haven't been on the computer all day) ____

It worked for me.
This is what i did:
I didnt try this on XP, cuz i mainly use Vista.
I have 2 eve clients installed, 1 Premium and 1 classic. When i updated the premium one and tried to stard the game i got a wierd error with some /bin corrupted files.
So i updated the classic one, which worked perfectly and just copied the /bin from the classic folder to the premium one. This worked without erasing anything from AppData(vista)
On xp, if you cannot delete the folder CCP in Application Data, just rename it. The game will look for ..Application Data/CCP/ and since is renamed it should create another one and work fine. Also restart after applying patch. ----------------------------------

Edited by: Katana Seiko on 20/02/2008 07:38:08 Well, they say "don't kill the messenger"... But hey, while you're at it - if you plan to deploy 1.0.3 to fix today's fix for a fix, can you please add something small, like the ability to delete votes older than half a year or delete finished contracts older than half a year? Thank you...
By the way - Vista seems to have way less problems with EVE than XP ever had - maybe because XP is patched for over 2000 times now, maybe because XP is nothing but a slightly improved Windows 2000. Get Vista, that's evolved from Server 2003. Service Pack 1 is out, so the biggest arguement you had against moving on is gone. --- This is your Captain speaking. Thank you for flying with our spaceline. Please remain seated until the ship has completely burned out. Thank you. |
