Hey guys, I was looking over the bonuses, and I'm wondering which ship is better as a sniper. Both ships give a 5% damage bonus, but the difference is, Naga has 10% to optimal range, whereas the Talos has 7.5% to tracking. As far as I'm aware, both of these bonuses help with a sniper? After looking on EFT, both ships were giving very nice dps, and the ranges were not far off from each other, the naga shooting at around 250km and the Talos getting just short of 200 km (this was with T2 spike) while this seems like quite a difference, the targeting range was reaching around 150 km (might need to recheck that number, but let's just go with it) Just for reference, this was all with lvl 5 skills on EFT |

Personally I would use the Naga for the long range sniping as I dont think tracking is as much of an issue. That being said though I belive the Talos can use drones which if a frigate gets the jump on you then that may be able to help you out a little.
As a final note regarding the range, isnt 200km the max anything is allowed to target or was that lifted? Im sure I read somewhere you can't target further than that.

Naga.
Tracking (the rotation speed of you turrets when they try to follow the target) is more important in close range, where transversal speeds are high. If you are 5000m from the target and it moves 1000m to the left, you turrets need to rotate more than they had if the target moved as much, but was 200km away.
So, tracking bonus doesn't really help snipers much, it helps close range brawlers. |

Ok, cheers guys. BTW, I was thinking of carrying some tracking speed scripts in my cargo, just so I can perform at different ranges with different ammo. Do you think that is fine, or would it just be a waste? And yes, the drone ability of the Talo makes my discision even harder And, to be honest, i luv the look of the Talos, but if the Naga is better, then that'll be my choice |

Always bring scripts. They cost next to nothing, use no cargo space and they increase your versatility. Increased tracking can/will increase applied dps so if you don't need the range you'd be silly to not switch to tracking script. Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

As Liam said always bring both type of scripts, the cost is nothing compared to the ship and it could just give you that extra edge to win an engagement if hostiles manage to close in on you. |

This - and always bring some Javelin rounds for the exact same reason.
I've surprised a few people by switching to Javelin and 3xtracking scripts at 80km in a Naga. The result is very formidable tracking for a long range large turret.

The Naga makes the better ranged gunboat by far. What EFT won't really describe is how important the range bonus is for the 2 ships. At any given range up until the Naga has to use spike ammo it will always be able to use a shorter range, hence higher damage, ammo than the Talos - which gives it a fairly decent damage bonus over-and-above the 5% per level each ship gets. So when the Talos has to resort to uranium for example, the Naga can still pug away with antimatter. It's really just a question of using each ship's innate advantages which you won't generally find written into their descriptions |

Go with the naga, and give up on this whole "snipe at 250km" idea. The real point is to snipe at 100km - out of drake HM range, not so far out that they can warp to you. Here, the naga can still use antimatter, while the talos is stuck using uranium or something else. And at these ranges, the naga does much better.

I'm not entirely sure if it was due to tracking, or wrong ammo type, but I had a Naga engage me at about 200km while I was flying my enyo, and missed every shot. A small gang of friends and I had tackled a maller in our frigs, and were a bit concerned about the naga popping us, but he was having a VERY hard time landing hits. Note, this was just after the AF buff, so if it WAS tracking issues, I suspect the MWD bonus made a significant difference. |

At those ranges most people would swap to T2 range ammo, downside is that if you even have a slight amount of transversal on that enyo as you approach him, even with your MWD burning, he'll miss you most of the time. Would he have been able to still use T1 ammo, even Iron, things would have looked a lot worse for you.
So, count yourself lucky you ran into someone who didn't bring Iron ammo because "he has spike so he doesn't need it", even with T1 ammo the applied dps would be lowish but it would have hurt an Enyo just fine. Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

That's good info to have; the longest range ammo I typically carry is Thorium, as its range is usually quite good and it still packs a decent punch. |

I would have to say the Naga because it has more mid slots for tracking computers and sensor boosters, talos is really better up close rather than at range
The range bonus is also quite helpful for sniping |

Neither, sniping is useless. Furthers you should be is 70-100km and this is considered "medium-long" range these days with all the tier 3's flying around. Everytime you dont like my comments/posts the terrorists win and your a disgrace to your country. |

Naga. Shield aligns faster and the built in resists are nice and mean you can fit sebo and other ewar. Shield sniper Talos runs out of mids but can be used if you cannot fly the Naga.
Talos for blasters. Vote Alekseyev Karrde for CSM7. -áhttps://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=67574 Get War Decs, Sov, Low Sec that works.-á |

249km effective range dmg projection, natural shield tank/recharge excellent for this purpose, natural range bonus aloud you to swap TE for MFS (more dmg)
Naga.
Edit: sry forgot blasters but since you'll miserably die with both at point blank range anyway at least pick the one that does some dmg, so for blasters pick Talos, for snipe Naga |

Ok guys, here is the fit i've been working on in EFT. Looks pretty good to me, but any advice/improvements would be nice: *All lvl 5 skills for the stats*
[Naga, Sniper] Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Experimental 10MN MicroWarpdrive I Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Tracking Disruptor II, Optimal Range Disruption

Medium Hybrid Collision Accelerator I Medium Hybrid Locus Coordinator I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Stats: DPS/Volley 782/4118
228 km targeting range Cap stable 35% without MWD (10 mins, 37s without control circuit rig) Lasts 2mins 48s with MWD on as well
76+49 optimal with Navy Antimatter 8,836 EHP Bare in mind this fit is purely a dps sniper for fleet ops. A friendly will be close enough to me to draw fire if I am targeted
Suggestions guys? Help/advice is always good But if your gonna bash, at least say why, and how to improve it. Cheers guys

OK, with that set-up it'd be reasonable to assume you have a tackler in the mix somewhere? Assuming you have, then personally I'd drop 1, maybe both, of the sensor boosters. Use the slots to fit a bit more tank of some sort. You should have plenty of range for most engagements with just the 1. You could go shield tank, or maybe try to be a bit unpredictable and go for a sensor disruptor or tracking disruptor, either of which could help you fight at range and potentially act as a tank of sorts. Cap rig is fair enough, but if you get 10mins of cap without it then for most engagements that's easily enough, you really shouldn't be getting into neut range with a ship like this, and if you did then that rig won't help at all. Maybe add to the tank a little by fitting a resist rig? |

Some interesting ideas mate. This fit is for fleet ops so tacklers would be present. I would be away from the centre of the conflict with a small team of other snipers and guards. Also, I put the cap rig purely because I like a cap stable fit. If you recon 10 mins will be enough, then I will look into some sort of tank. Thanks for the tips |
