It took me about 3 months on my original character. I mined all day for it in my Thorax and had to buy a BPC since there were very few on the market at that time. Eventually I was sitting in my new, shiny and powerful Armageddon, where I decided to take it for a spin into 0.0 where I prompty CTD'd mid-warp to a gate whilst being uninsured (and back then, no insurance = NO insurance)
By the time I logged back in, I was in my clone station. Shipless, Implantless and Poor
Nearly stopped playing completely after that

I don't get a surge of adrenaline in pvp that often. Like any drug, the more you do it, the less effect it has - and I have pvped a lot. I moved up to Dreadnaughts at one point in time, just because I wanted a slower form of combat where the risks were larger and the outcome less predictable.

Took me roughly a year to hop into my first battleship, but by that point I had a fairly decent skill base, and was already training for T2 guns

I found that description very interesting and would like to add my experience. In the start of my carrer almost 3 years ago, I hated mine and loved to trade, it was not very long to discover some very good trade routes to low sec. That was the most exciting time I ever had with EVE because I was traveling around with sometimes more then 50% of my very hard earned fortune rushing and cold sweating to transform that in double. I lost my ship three times (cargo empty) but my cargo only once. The adrenaline that day went all over my body I can remember like yesterday that in the end I did not regreted, the experience of chemical in my body was fantastic!!! I felt like a real fight, maybe even more. My muscles was all locked up, and I felt it hurting a few minutes latter. AWESOME!!!!
This was not about, ships, mods, weapons, but MUCH MORE, about all the time I spent trading here and there to make my capital and risking loosing most of it. I know it was risky but I love risks.
Today I fly a freighter with cargo 3x the price of the ship, I dont go deep in low sec, but I do fly two or three jumps in low sec ALONE. Unfortunatelly even so I dont feel the rush anymore.
I hope PVP get that back to me.

But, but...without rAnDoM cApS, how does one show how leet he is?
Seriously, though--yeah, I hate it too. It was annoying me way back before people started typing in 13375p33k or AOLspeak.

I get a rush when engaging in good intense fights. Like any other sort of sport you may play.
Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. What whent wrong, what worked well. And there's no limit for improvement of real knowlage. -

Almost 2 years old with this char, and I hardly ever fly battleships I have Caldari Battleship L4 too, and the ONLY battleship I have ever actually flown (as in, not just transported from A to B, but actually USED for something) on TQ was a Dominix (Gallente BS4, Amarr/Minnie BS3).

Originally by: Siigari Kitawa Edited by: Siigari Kitawa on 22/02/2008 14:55:01 EVE is a special game.
We get an adrenaline rush when we PVP.
Why?
Because when you enter combat, you are committing the following to possible loss:
All the time you spent getting the isk to get the ship All the time you spent getting the isk to get the modules All the time you spent actually getting the ship All the time you spent going around in a frenzy picking up the mods (or) All the time you spent lagging in Jita trying to get the mods All the time you spent in EVE Fitting tool making sure your setup WILL FIT All the time you spent testing it against your friends and corpmates All the time you spent...
Losing your stuff sucks. Which is why you get a rush when you engage in combat. Because while losing your stuff really sucks... losing the TIME YOU SPENT getting it sucks even more :(
EVE is not about losing your ship, then respawning and pushing a series of buttons to give you the best possible loadout, nor is it a race to whoever can get the biggest stuff the fastest. It involves a lot of time and patience to be successful. It is not mindless like some games, it is not "instant gratification."
EVE is a test of your ability to utilize your time efficiently.
:)
And that is why I try 1) to avoid PvP as much as possible and 2) Have Exact Copies of anything I fly in PvP duplicated 10 times or more so that the moment I die I can grab carbon copy 2 and go back at it. Sounds fun huh? Not really, but it works. +++++++++++++++ For the LAST time...

I agree wholeheartedly with the adrenalin rush thing. I don't ever gamble in real-life, because I work hard for my money, so I look after it. In EVE though, going into battle and the relief when you survive it (often narrowly) is an enormous rush I find. I always go into battles, resigned to considering my ship already lost, but still, if you DO lose the ship, it really really sucks. This is what taught me to keep my PvE, Mining and PvP ships seperate, so that I would always retain the ablilty to re-earn my ISK to replace these losses with hopefully the minimum of time loss and inconvenience.
Yup, you can't get that rush if you just respawn instantly with no real penalty, having the risk of a serious loss means that anyone going into battle has balls. (both the guys and gals). Once in a battle, I for one will always stand my ground so long as its the right tactical and strategical decision, unless my wing commander orders otherwise. If I disagree with the order, settle it afterwards, but not in the heat of the battle.
