Goons are not flipping cans or exploiting game mechanics. Goons are not scannign and killing traders. Goons kill Exhumers. Goons are even a very big word to use here, as there have only been killed 1 exhumer for every 25 goon out there. Given that a few goons have killed more than 15, I would say maybee 2-3% of the goons are doing this.
But by all means, band together miners and bring protection. It does not matter. I think this sounds like fun, and I am getting into the event with my level 4 main. I have 5.0 in sec status, and I can kill quite a few hulks before I have to go back and run some L4's.
I will however only target people in the n00b corps. See you all in space Hulk / Mack pilots.

There isnt much margin to go wrong. Full 6 Torps, hammerheads, BCS, and some two hybrids for safety. You should be losing from 15m to 20m per Raven so choose your targets well.

Allowing this type of action will stop the growth of the game. I know if I am ganked it will be the last time as I will simply walk away from the game as the laws of Concord and the Empires are not being enforced. But this is your choice. As the vast majority of the players live in high sector space it is them you will lose and end up with only the people that want to PvP all the time. Seen many a game die when this happens and those that run the game see it to late.

Did you factor in the insurance to that, or is that just the mods? With insurance (~30m) you are losing close to 50.

ISK'ies are supposed to be lost as ships (wtf other use do they have?) ISK is easy to come by anyway......
I'll give it some tests when the test server is back up. I'm mainly worried about getting concord jammed before getting the 2nd salvo off.... Don't think I'll ever get off a 3rd even in 0.5...

I did the calc for the Raven a few weeks ago when arguing against insurance. They cost ~88m then, and you'd get ~112m from insurance which cost ~32m. Total loss ~8m ISK + modules (which're dirt cheap). Raven prices may have gone up since, but I don't think they've gone up that much!
Insurance doesn't give you back what you paid for the ship. It gives you a (very high) fixed amount back based on the ship type. This is what makes suicide ganking so profitable these days as the ships used are close to free.

Wow oh wow has this thread taken off.
To you whiners: Stfu actually be at your computer and be more aware! Geez how easy is it to highlight the goonswarm alliance set them personally to red and be done with it? There is no such thing as saftey in high sec. Never has been never will be. You got keystone cops running concord DED and everything else. Personally we need another day where they all go and take a vacation.
To the swarmers: I am not going to cheer you on. Speaking as someone who used mining to get access to his first battlecruiser i have a little respect for them now i understand knocking off high sec hulks and such but to be honest i hope you can handle the consequences of it. A player earlier remarked how CCP dealt with the war deccing issue of the privateers (a blatant unwarranted exploit) I am glad its gone i don't like having the idea of a corp being able to merc so many people at once. This may well finally bring the mechanic that will essentially end suicide ganking. By that i mean voiding insurance if concorded. Now maybe thats part of what you want to bring about i got no clue.
At any rate the length of this thread just proves how many macroers actually post on the forums. At any rate i dont quite understand it. You launch a strike against one of bob's major systems not all that long ago and you follow it up with this? Why not continue the attack instead of bothering with things up here?

Hire mercs to go into their space and take out their POS.
They are already at war with BoB which is draining resources. If the "Carebears" pool their resources and organize against the Goons they could crush the Goons easily. Will it cost people, oh yes it will, but probably a whole heck of a lot less than a Hulk or two.

According to SHC, BoB are attacking goon held territory. These gankings must really have hit some BoB interests in high-sec hard since they go to this effort to draw goons away from it....
Now, the only question is: Am I using too much tinfoil, or too little?
Basically, b ob is taking over goon territory, so goons need to go and poo on someone rather than relise that their anti-bob propoganda backfired. Thats why they are beating up hulk pilots, since goons cannot loose then

Goons had brosefs leading the charge -AAA-/RA/IAC/northern-napbuddies while bleating on the forums and occasionally showing up as a meat shield. Now, the above, have taken it on the chin a few good wacks and are regrouping/pausing/whatever. This leaves goons solo against bob, and we all know how that turns out. The need their big ship buddies to make any headway, otherwise its just throw them selves on the swords and laugh, mentality, ie they can't accomplish anything with out poppa RA & Co at their backs.

This has entirely nothing to do with the war. Yes, NOL did not go all that well. However, BoB has now launched an offensive to take back qy6, and contest Sov 3.
All of this, has nothing to do with suiciding Hulks though.

Edited by: Tanshi Daiko on 28/02/2008 17:20:36 Edited by: Tanshi Daiko on 28/02/2008 17:20:00 Well, i returned to the game about a month or two ago (this character was a trial from last year, so i started a new character). Since that time i`ve slowly learned the mining skills to fly a hulk. Yesterday i clicked the "learn astrogeology 5" button....17 day wait countdown begins and then for three days i will learn exhumers.
I wont actually be able to afford a hulk on that day, though i will be able to fly one. The exhumers skill cost me 25 million, which is the most expensive thing i have ever bought. My current ship is a retriever, which pulls in about 250K each time i return with a full hold.
I have about 7 million in the bank, need another 113 million for a hulk and the basic fittings, give or take some.
The corp i joined generously offered to loan me a covetor, a ship worth about 20 million with fittings that can take in double the amount of isk that my retriever can. The skills to fly a retriever are 3 days of learning different to those needed to fly its tech 2 equivalent, the hulk. Thus, up till almost the very last minute, i wont have access to a reasonable income ship, so saving for a hulk is extremely hard.
I also have a merlin, though i barely have the skills to use most equipment that average pilots would take for granted. I dont much enjoy combat, found missions to be quite intimidating and strange, also lacking in both content and reward.
Why was it i chose to learn to fly a hulk, something that i knew would take 53 or so days from the day i started on the idea? Well, to have some form of status in the EVE world. I was a newbie, with no chance of getting a ship that would be any comparison to the people in a corp. I`d be one of the rank and file, able to shoot some things and off doing endless missions or a bit of pvp that i would simply not be good at. In a hulk at least i have some form of identity and i can then set out on my eve career, while having some sort of reliable income to back it up.
Amusing and alarming that this topic should appear. I`m no stranger to the idea of risk and reward, so i wont whine about the matter. The purpose of this post is just to explain to people that there are some people who are newcomers to the game and who set out, from roughly day one, to learn hulk piloting. I havent even got frigate 4 on that character, or industrial 2, but i`ll be flying a ship that means something to me and to others in EVE.
My concern is that i dont have other options. If my hulk gets shot up when i finally use it, even if i could replace it, why should i bother? No, you cant have my stuff either, since i *wont have stuff* for you to have, should i quit. Mining makes money for mining, i dont get cash from missions and i dont have rep either.
Hopefuly this will all blow over by the time i actually get my hulk. Even if it does get blown up on day one, at least i achieved something in the game.

Man the GS are too stupid to recognize their own tactics...
Sure you got T2 ships and the like but even a T2 ship can go down to a bunch of frigates. Gate camp? How many people you going to dedicate to holding that camp in place? Its the resource game fool. There are more "carebears" than you have pilots. You take pilots & ships from fighting BoB to cover your space, whether its to protect your own operations or those of the people paying you to use your space, they will stop paying if you cannot guarantee their safety, or to protect a POS from destruction it WILL hurt you more in the long run than it will the "carebears" that lose T1 ships fitted with T1 gear. If you weren't fighting BoB it would certainly be a different story, but you are at war and you cannot be everywhere at once.
Will they do it? Dunno, but they certainly could if you **** off enough people. Remember arrogance has led to the downfall of more than one army, nation, or empire.
