I have just under 900K in drone skills and was wondering if it's worth taking the extra time away from other skill plans to train up the drone attribute skills: Drone Durability, Drone Sharpshooting and Drone Navigation.
Do they make any difference at all to drone effectiveness? It seems like having an extra 20% or so on drone hit points wouldn't make much difference, nor would pushing their optimal out a little bit. But I could be wrong.
Your thoughts? -- Meridius Dex --

Like most everything else in Eve it's a matter of degrees. What do you primarily fly, is it for pvp or mission running, what would you train otherwise.
Knowing nothing from your personally I would say yes those skills are useful. More drone hitpoints means more time to get them back to you drone bay in PvE and more time doing dmg in PvP. Both of which can be very beneficial. Rat spawns with less then 3 BSs sometimes have another BS spawn ontop of your already engaged drones, and in 0.0 it can be a real pain to try to replace drones...and really expensive in the case of T2.
Sharpshooting and Navigation I find help with those faster, high resistance jammers in missions since my Domi for example can't track with large guns at 3k and doing 4m/s versus 500+ transversal in some missions for example. And while with better armor skills and the right mission selection it's not an issue since you can perma tank the whole mission pocket it is nice to have all the same.
In PvP I'm not really sure about these skills. Not gonna help you catch a good Vaga and in fleet you'll likely be pretty close anyway once you deploy drones and DPS would be paramount. Anyway I'd get Durability to at least 4 and the other two to at least 3.
I'd personally suggest 5 in durability and 4s in sharpshooting and navigation.

durability isn't important in PVE if you are careful, but my first training session in PVP I lost my drones pretty quick so I am training it up. I have heard the navigation skill boosts MWP speed and can cause overshoot at lev 4 -- I don't know. Sharpshooting makes a difference, but not nearly as much as drone interfacing.

Sharpshooting is supposedly fixed. -------------------------------------------------- <3 my Drones |

As a Drone specialist, yes most drone skills to 5 is worth it. Drone Durability and Racial specialisation are a bit steep though, getting it to 5 doesn't seem really worth it.
However, if you get to the point where its between Large Pulse Laser Spec 5 or Drone Durability, probably the latter.

Thanks for the replies, fellas. I did train Sharpshooting and Navigation to III. I might take a day later and push Durability up a bit.
As for the core skills, I have Drones V (of course), Combat Drone Ops IV, Drone Interfacing IV and Scout Drone Operation V. I've specced up for both medium ECM and armor-repping drones - and specced Gallente to get Hammerhead IIs. I think now I'll just spec Minmatar enough to get Warrior IIs. That should do it for drone skills for now, it would seem. -- Meridius Dex --

You need navigation for the web drones and sharpshooting for the sentries.
You probably won't use them but I personally like having those options open and bringing a webdrone or two in my spare drone space so my turrets are more effective.

Hey, im caldari spec and gallente spec,
Got about 3m in drones now, i noticed if you want some decent damage, get drone interfacing level 5 and also get a drone ship (Vexor, Myr, Domi) and spec in that to level 5. Give a good amount of DPS out.

They're still your drones. You can still command them; therefore, your bonuses apply to them.

I see it like this: if the drone can last just another sec and is able to break a tank or has just that orbiting speed that it can just evade that otherwise lethal shot at it to break a tank, then i say YES those skills to V are definitely worth it.
