hi every one iam hoping for a lil help in deciding what to do with my hawk iam gona use it for pvp as its cheap and expendable can any one help me with fitings for small/med gang's - i can use a full t2 setup

Yeah. Got an idea.
Save your money and use a cruiser (like caracal) if you want a decent cheap pvp ship. Hawk is garbage until CCP fixes it.

hi thanx for the coments whats wrong with the hawk? and isk isnt a prob so i dont mind the extra isk for a af rather than a t1 cruiser

To sum it up.
Hawk disadvantage over a Caracal:
1) Much less DPS. Even a Assault Missile Caracal vastly outdamages the Hawk. A Kestrel outdamages the Hawk.
2) Less buffer/tank - a Caracal with nothing fitted still has more buffer, much less with a single LSE.
3) More expensive to lose then a Caracal; due to bad T2 insurance, etc.
4) A Caracal can actually be a solid asset in a gang and kill something.
Hawk advantages over a Caracal:
1) Smaller signature radius (but this is not very relevant though, given the ease of controlling transversal).
2) Marginally better agility then a Caracal (I think, I'd have to test it). Marginally being the main word.
Hawk disadvantages versus everyone else:
A Hawk is outdamaged by a Kestrel. A Hawk is guaranteed to lose versus anything in its class, and a very skilled Rifter/Punisher pilot might, in fact, kill you. It is guaranteed to die versus any cruiser, of course.
You can only engage the bad kinds of T1 frigs and the occasional really bad interceptor in a light missile Hawk. Rocket Hawk is just LOL, given you need to actually web people to make it work, and it'll still die to a Punisher

The caracal has a lot more damage, has a lot more tank, and costs less. This makes the hawk relatively useless....as in, there's no practical reason to use it. It's an obsolete ship.
The only excuse to fly it now is that it looks cool.
I wish it weren't this way, though. I hope CCP fixes hawk (and all assault ships).

I was just thinking about the Hawk this morning, and what it would take to make it a viable missle boat rather than a Caracal...
...what about a ship bonus that reduced the CPU/PG requirements of assault launchers? Sort of like how the Manticore is set up to be able to fit cruise launchers, the Hawk, being a missle AF, could reduce requirements so that assault launchers are a bit easier to fit than standards? That would give the Hawk a niche (light missle boat) and give caldari t2 light missle pilots something to use in t2 combats effectively (cause most people use t2 heavies or HAMs in cruisers)...

Would be neat. Sort of like an....assault stealth bomber, minus the stealth. Still wouldn't be better than a caracal though, at anything really.

Well, it might take some additional tweaking, but the AF has better acceleration (iirc) as well as more agility and better speed, making it a bit harder to hit, and a much smaller sig radius, making it a much longer lock time for ships larger than itself... Its by no means "sneaky", but it at least adds some viability to the platform that wasn't there before (being able to sling light missles at a higher ROF than most other frigate class vessles).

Switch the silly shield boost bonus to an explosion velocity one.
Result - a ship still worse than the Caracal at everything except for hitting inties - thanks to the explosion velocity bonus. This would give it a clearly defined niche. A pretty small niche, but a niche nonetheless.

Hmm, now that I'm thinking on it, what about really making it an "assault" ship, and extending the bonus to both assault launchers and heavy assault launchers. The latter would make it sort of like a jazzed up rocket kestrel, with more boomboomboom.

Not really. I mean, yeah the base scan res is higher but the Caracal has an extra mid for sensor boostage. Two scan res scripted boosters brings it near the Hawks lock time and it still does far more damage.
I guess you could argue that a Hawk fitted for lock speed beats the Caracal at it... but then you may as well just use an interceptor and do it far better.

Leave your hawk in the hangar. Fly a cheaper, more expendable T1 Kestrel to do more damage than a hawk, or a cheaper, more expendable T1 Caracal to do much more damage than the hawk, tank much more damage than the hawk, and handle almost as well as the hawk.
If the hawk had its bonuses changed so that it at least did as much damage as the kestrel, and if AF's in general didn't suck, it might be worth flying. But AF's are bad and the hawk is pretty much the worst of the AF's.

It's too bad the hawk is such crap. It's easily one of the best looking ships in the game, IMO.
