There does seem to be a pattern forming for AOL users dropping a lot or having lag at peak time, esp since last patch.
Is there some stealth migrating going on, is there an incompatabilty with vista. Anyone using ping plotter to test where the losses might be?
Anyone with same probs, please post with ISP, operating system, and if it's specific to the time you are online (eve time please).
Pingplotter results appreciated.
Respect to Aldrad, apols for expanding your post.

Thanks for that plotter result, pretty much confirms it.

Quote: just chatted online to Aol help - their response: I would like to inform you that the slow speed issue or some issues with certain websites that you are facing is due to the network migration of AOL servers. However, I have come across some cases where some basic steps have resolved the issue. Thus, I am sending the steps to you via Email. In case, the steps don't work, please do not worry. Wait for another 24-48 hours whilst we get the server issues sorted out.

Used aol for years with no issues and since the last patch period it seems it can take me up to 20mins just to download the bulk data on logging in. Once in its lag fest and random drop time.
Have lost over a billion ISK on a faction fit ship on one of my accounts due to this and of course CCP says there is nothing wrong with eve at the time (apart from normal lag) so they can't replace it....
Great..

I was having these issues too, a week of extreme lag, disconnects etc. Tried everything I could think of being PC related, as I've never had problems with AOL in 3 years of playing EVE. Then I reset my router, problem so far solved. Haven't had the above issues for the last couple of days, try it please, then let us know if it's the problem or not, thanks.

Originally by: Aldrad Its ridiculous really, I've been with AOl for over 5 years, had no problem with them in the past, only now they've all of a sudden gone retentive and went and done a tiscali. Furthermore there was no notification, on any of my screen names. I asked the live support for any kind of timeframe, and they had no idea.
Its unacceptable.
Thoughts?
I do agree on the bad lack of notifications, since it affects so many users. I can't understand why AOL didn't send emails telling us, yet are willing to cause major congestion by migrating their servers anyway.
I feel angry that they didnt do that, and expect us to find out for ourselves.

AOL Live support claimed an email was dispatched too "ALL screen names".
I'm inclined disagree.

Yes Same here, having all sorts of problems recently, i can't log in sometimes, or lag so bad fighting out of the question and most annoying, when i jump i seem to disscon and warp 1 mill km from gate, even though the game did not crash. It's really just started happening the last 2 weeks or so. I have reinstalled eve on one pc and am running one classic and one premium setup and i get the problems on both pc's, so i am thinking its got to be network related and not eve server side. I have opened a petition with the gm's and hopefully we can find out were the problem lies, will post as we find out more. Until then i will just carebear and build stuff in stations

I don't think this is a problem the GMs can fix, but rather AOL. They should be able to resolve it, and promptly or they'll risk losing a whole load of customers.

Im exactly same, been going on for over 1 week now which is really annoying, luckily for me it needs re-newing at the end of the month so I can tell em where to go. What I have found though is that if I do the following.....
1. Un-Install EvE 2. Shut Down Computer 3. Turn off Router 4. Leave 5 Mins 5. Turn on Router 6. Turn on Computer 7. Re-Install Eve 8. Acuire Bulk Data. 9. Log in 10. Log out 11. Log In and it runs absolutely fine until either the Computer or Router is turned off.

CCP very much took the stand with the similar Tiscali situation that their servers and game were working ok, so it was not their problem to sort out the ISP.
What we did though was get on the Tiscali forums, and complaints proceedure, and tried to get as much bad publicity for the ISP as possible.
Tiscali did get on it and sort their cisco throttling kit after we got 40000 hits and 60 pages of complaints logged. That was hard for them to brush off.
So AOL users get to work, any support forums get the links ups, and get organised. Its not losing current customers that bother ISPs it the loss of potential new ones.

Have tried resetting the router. It worked the first couple of times but now even that doesnt work. I have checked all my emails and have not received any form of notification from AOL about the server migration.

Ok, I have used the AOL Online-chat tech support and got some answers,
First of all, I am on a month by month old school totally uncapped deal, all the new contracts have download limits so I had avoided signing a new contract and kept paying month by month on my old one û been with AOL for 7 days now.
After explaining the problem to the tech guy i was told:
Quote: I have just checked your account and I would like to inform you that due to the heavy download from your account your account has been capped under FUP (Fair Use Policy) and to get this issue sort out as soon as possible I would request you to call the FUP team at 0844 499 5555
I then asked if this would effect games, and he said "Yes it will" So! its bye bye aol for me, i cant see them sorting this out anytime soon, i am guessing the problems you guys are having will be the same.
I phoned this number and an automated message said something like ôIf you are phoning about a slow service we are aware of the problem and engineers are dealing with itö - So û I didn't know what to think at this point and went thru looking for a real person, I was on hold for nearly 30 mins when the line went dead û thanks. Tomorrow I will be phoning again to ask for my MAC code...

AOL messageboards
Ok heres the link, if I've got the right one, just takes one person to kick off the Eve thread and ask for an explaination about lack of connnection and drops, and for everyone else to keep the pressure on.
No one else will do it for you, sooner that you kick up a fuss that gets noticed the sooner you will get web support, interest and people asking questions.
Coming here and just moaning is exactly that. Up to you to get it moving. Good luck.

Well I had a look earlier and didn't see a specific Eve thread on there forums, and thats what you want, a focal point, if you could do it with big flashing lights all the better. Dropping in behind "Ping and huge packet loss" does not exactly cut it. "Eve and other online games unplayable, WHY? Answers please AOL" is more like it.
You have to make the title draw others in that don't understand pings and packets, but know their game isn't working.
Don't make assumptions about FUP they should have notified you first probably , look in the terms and conditions, don't make excuses for them. They don't hit as many people as this without having changed policy or doing something to their equipment.
Don't bother too much with threatening them with lawyers, watchdog, trading standards, getting your MAC, etc most of that is water off a ducks back, and they know most people say it, but not do it.
Demand a specific answer and be relentless about it.
The ping plotter results already show you have a specific point of "throttling" and should be used in the posts on their boards for eveyone to see. You can use a text only display for it, if they won't take the image.
The main point is to not muse over, nor speculate too much what they are doing , but demand an answer, and show your disapproval of what's currently happening. Focus and don't let other things distract you from getting that answer.
Make it very obvious what is going on for people with less knowledge to help them understand and get them on your side.

Just to fill you guys in on abit of detail. Aol are currently migrating servers at it should take around another few months. However if you ring them and give them a load of bull about how its compeltley gone to a stand still etc etc they will tag your line. And that will give the techs 15 days to fix it really. That's all that can be done. Blummin aol

At the mo , all this does is puts people off making a complaint.
Do you have an official link to this statement, I hear there were letters sent, but many said they never received them.
Are the people complaining the ones that have been migrated, and this IS the future service? It was moving over to Tiscalis new servers that put the throttling in place, that caused all the problems that their complaints were about.
