With this being our first tournament, we were very excited and lost a lot of sleep on the match days. Despite most of our matches being in the early morning (we're mostly NA timezones), we had a very good turn out and I was pleasantly surprised at our level of participation.
We started off as "Molowho? The other guys are going to win without a doubt!" and as the tournament went on, EVETV began second guessing themselves and actually predicting that we'd pull some matches off. I'd write a bit more but Nanobot has already come up with a pretty good write-up so I'll just copy pasta what he gave me!
Originally by: Nanobot Alliance Tournament day 1 Another day in Molotov, chillin, mission running, Ratting, Muting Cairo Dog on Vent. When æOl Druz pops on. Quote ôErrrm, guysà..Errrmà..errrr.. I kinda entered us into the Alliance Tourney, errrrr, guess you need to errrrr.. Get into something we can fight with.ö Thus begins our bid to become the Alliance champions û yup professional from the outset there.
Day 1 û T-Minus 15 minutes to GM Transport So we all sit down into the war room and discuss tactics, several setups are bandies around back and forth, some good ôout of the boxö type setups. PointÆs evaluation, pilot ability, enemy Intel etc.
Day 1 û T-Minus 14 Minutes to GM Transport We say sod it, lets just field 3 Gankthrons, no-one will be expecting that eh?
Day 1 û Molotov Coalition Vs The Star Fraction So the fight begins, in the absence of any viable tactic we just do what we always do. Point and shoot. (Oh and Approach.) Probably more surprise to ourselves than anyone else we actually win, unfortunately this screwed up Eve TVÆs coverage of the event as they had already planned Star FractionsÆ victory speech.
Alliance Tournament Day 2 Following our surprise win we have another ôtactical meetingö. This is to discuss TodayÆs setup, and more importantly what to call our ships.
Day 2 û T-minus 45 Minutes to GM Transport Amarr is decided to be the ship of choice today, this is because we found it easier to tell people just to grab a certain race, believe me û this saves a lot of hassle in the long run.
Day 2 û T-Minus 25 Minutes to GM Transport It is decided in a Corp meeting that although we may have a spy, the fact that we donÆt know what weÆre fielding until just before the match, means that if someone else does, hell they deserve to win.
Day 2 û T-Minus 2 Minutes to GM Transport Minor mishap results in Cairo Dog hearing ôGallenteö instead of ôAmarrö. An easy mistake to make, and one which commonly occurs with this individual.
Day 2 û Molotov Coalition Vs Blood Blind As WeÆre all tired, and weÆve got a dual Guardian setup. We just set the match going while reading papers/drinkin brews etc. Returning once every 8 days to change target. Cairo goes into low shields and panics Quote ôohmygodprimarygonnadiediehelphelpö ItÆs kindly pointed out afterwards that he is in an Armour tanking ship. The common EvE populace will not believe the effort it took us not to just click approach and press f1-f7. Druz actually had us repeating the Mantra ôNot in a Thron, Not in a Thron, Not in a Thron.
Alliance Tournament Day 4 (We had Day 3 off) Right now we have a couple of ôsweetö tactical setups planned out, with some out of the box ideas. Enough pilots to test said setups out. We now have a game plan.
Day 4 û T-Minus 8 Minutes to GM Transport Yup Throns it is then.

Edited by: DruzidelCastro on 09/03/2008 17:40:09 Continued!
Originally by: Nanobot [Day 4 û Molotov Coalition Vs The Kadeshi Watching our Frigs last less time on the battlefield than one of Zetas ideas lasts in VHI was a bit disconcerting, but although support was quickly lost, the Throns got stuck in. Literally coming down to the wire with a reload for myself coming at the most inopportune time (the Cheers in the background on Eve TV when the drones killed the 2nd last Vexor made me feel goooooood) gave The Kadeshi a well deserved win and my shortest lived Blasterthron ever (34 Minutes).
Alliance Tournament Day 5 Well we know we are through, But Druz is really scared of fighting Green Alliance so he wants us to finish top, the rest of us really donÆt care. We actually watch Fat Kids previous matches to get some kind of setup they like fielding û the only common occurrence seems to be 3 Random BS. We immediately like these guys û they as random as us.
Day 5 T-Minus 60 Minutes to GM Transport We actually plan (shock) a bit for this one. Well ôa bitö being the operative word (No shock). Druz Quote ôerrrrrr, emmmmmmö. Originally going for 10x Vexor/Thorax setup for reasons unknown (probably a whim) ItÆs decided to take the Absolution out for a spin so support is knocked up post haste.
Day 5 T-Minus 4 Minutes to GM Transport At this point CptPewPew chirps up saying that he canÆt use Autocannons, this being an ideal time to mention this as Druz has been harping on about it for the last 50 mins. Could be worse though we 'spose û could just forget to show up completelyà. oh Damn SMASH did that already.
Day 5 T-Minus +2 Minutes to GM Transport Druz blatantly lies to the GM in our gang saying that we got a guy AFK, this being while Pew quickly fits Lasers to his Maller.
Day 5 û Molotov Coalition Vs When Fat Kids Attack A strange fight to say the least, however a THD was denied when CptPewPew (The same) Got what we call in VHI ôThron syndromeö. This being a nasty ailment that comes around from flying our Throns too much. Symptoms include 1.Clicking Approach. 2.Thinking you can tank a fair amount of Crap. 3.Getting webbed. 4.Realising that ôOh Buggerö IÆm not in a Thron after all. 5.Shiny Explosion time. 6.Getting lolled at in Vent for some time to come.
Alliance Tournament Day 6 Emergency top secret level talks have been going on in VHI. The midnight oil has been burnt in a top secret channel on vent (password æan everything). Only a few top level members of VHI are aware of todayÆs setup, naturally this means the whole Corp knows. TBH we didnÆt expect to get this far û and anything else is now just a bonus.
Day 6 û T-Minus 60 Minutes to GM Transport The Author is actually in bed at this time and actually has no idea whatÆs going on, It was a nice dream but had nothing to do with EvE.
Day 6 û T-Minus 2 Minutes to Match Start Wake up, log in, find out weÆve got shiny Amarr. Can hear Vent alive with Pre-Match Target calling. Primary appears to be ôoh****oh****oh****ö and 2ndary is ôwegonnadieeeeeeeeö.
Day 6 Quarter Finals Molotov Coalition Vs Notoriety Well errr, nuff said really. The exact Antithesis of our setup. The words ôPrayerö, ôdonÆt haveö and ôbuggritö spring to mind. Unfortunately we were outclassed from the start, and the Guardians got rapidly capped out.. Also we hated ourselves so much we smartbombed one of our own Guardian pilots for Dieing (Lord Grapefruit) û thatÆll learn æim. Cairo Dog was ordered to self destruct because we hate him. A small victory that makes us feel better cos' that means Notoriety didnÆt kill him. Honestly we had to make him self destruct or he would have raped the entire other team single handed which wouldnÆt have been fair.

Originally by: Nanobot Overview Props to all our opponents 1.Star Fraction For an interesting 1st Fight û unlucky on the 1st cycle of Jams. 2.Blood Blind for the ôWhose Guardian is it anywayö competition. 3.the Kadeshi for a Heluvia fight. 4.When Fat Kids Attack û CptPewPew said he only let you kill him so you would have more points than SMASH, although we support this statement and it helps us LoL at SMASH û we donÆt believe it and think he just fails. 5.Notoriety û Owowowowowowowowowowowwowow. Whether that be lots of OwÆs or lets play WoW I donÆt know. But They annihilated us and pretty damn convincingly, props to that.

I don't know if it's the lack of sleep or not, but that was an awesome writeup - I'm still laughing. I know that impending doom feeling btw, we felt that very distinctly when we saw 10 thoraxes. We just kept repeating, "please don't have ecm drones, please don't have ecm drone .... awww crap."
Great showing guys.

I just got a chance to sit down and watch the final day of the tourny. I passed out after learning I didn't need to fly again! This tourny sure messed up my sleep schedule.
I had a great time seeing the mega setup we brought in fielded by other teams :)
Sure makes for fun fights, and I'm glad everyone else agreed.

You guys were really good. Dont take it personally that you were underestimated, as I keep saying, all we have to go on is names. It's not like we know everyone in Eve :P Your performances were solid but not spectacular. Solid wins games, spectacular doesn't. Notoriety had both (until their final, awful setup) which is why they got a lot of talk and you guys didnt, but it doesnt mean you deserved it any less. Unfortunately we dont get a whole lot of time to talk about teams individually.
I actually thought, by the end of the group stages, that you'd go further than you did. Your performances were great and I raved a fair bit about you off-screen although I didnt agree with all of your ship choices.
All in all well done - if I'm lucky enough to ever expert on EveTV again, there'll be a lot more Molot-love :P

Eh, it's only a bad setup if you lose.
We could've won the Cry Havoc fight with that setup, we just didn't execute properly....
Although I'll easily admit we could've brought a better setup as Cry Havoc wasn't changing theirs much.
As for Molotov, like Calmdown said, you did well, you just got rock paper scissored. It's one of the more cruel parts of the tourney.

Whee! We'll definitely be a bit more prepared next time. The biggest problem we had was asking who would be able to make it - nobody knew for sure, so we just had to go with whoever showed up first. If I had actually taken more time putting together a certain set up I was thinking about and then got the people who could use it we probably would've stayed in a bit longer than we did...but that would've taken a lot of work so I didn't bother :p
Until next time :3!

Late reply here as I only really get to play at weekends (RL FTW)
Errrrrrr! What can I say really apart from thx for all the +ve comments, and not 1 flame. I didn't believe Druz when he said that he was gonna post it on the EvE-O Forums, as I've never really rated my stories that high to get posted here anyway (Most of them are just amusing takes on the crap we get up to).
For info That story was knocked up in about 20 Minutes after Grux said he wanted something to remind him of our place in the Tourney, I'm glad that all those who read it (and posted) liked the story.
Thx for reading.
Shoot 1st, shoot some more, keep shooting, some more shot, and if anyones alive after ask a few questions. Just a soldier following orders.
