Edited by: CCP Abraxas on 10/03/2008 16:40:51 Hi folks,
Time for something fresh. "Daughters of the Revolution" is the first single-shot chronicle since Black Mountain ended.
It is also the first chronicle that directly ties in to the events in our upcoming novel, "EVE: The Empyrean Age". I didn't write the novel, but I have read it, and you need to read it too, or we won't love you anymore.
Just so it's clear, while all my chronicles from now until June will relate to the novel in some manner, and will often play off some of the massive events there, they won't spoil anything and they won't feature any of the novel's main characters.
Edit: You'll also notice that we now have pictures. We are very happy with that. A full-sized one will be posted inside the chronicle page a day after original publication.

Edited by: Alex Bester on 10/03/2008 16:51:30 That was a very good one, frighteningly close to real life. I'm looking forward to more, and yes I'll read the novel as soon as it is out.

A very good read as usual, nice work Abraxas . I find it nice how in some stories you can relate certain characters to people you know personally, just by getting a small feel of their personality |

Yes, yes, oh gods yes.
This is the kind of writing I enjoy. Kind of bittersweet, and not revealing of anything special but still setting an atmosphere. I also really like discussions on sentiment and morality with an emphasis on individual and group perspective, and I believe this Chronicle is a good example of what I love about this Universe.

First off, here's what I can tell you about the novel: It's coming out in the middle of June. It's big. It has explosions, and major revelations. For anything else, keep an eye out on our newspages instead of my posts. It's not my project, so I'm not the one who'll be telling you all about it.
Originally by: NemesisGene I find it nice how in some stories you can relate certain characters to people you know personally, just by getting a small feel of their personality
Absolutely. One of the most fundamental rules in my writing is that the characters should be real people and act as such. I only ever deviate from this rule when I'm intentionally writing a farce or something equally extreme.
Originally by: Garion Avarr About when does this take place?
Now-ish.
Originally by: Typhado3 I think I'll enjoy a few of these one off ones. any chance you could give us hint at what's coming up?
Next story is called "Hometown Heroes" and is a lighthearted poke at the Gallente. After that we'll get "The Lottery", one of the bleakest things I have ever written, for reasons that won't become fully clear to you until you've read the novel. For the April-June chronicles I'll be publishing pieces inspired by, among other things, Shirley Jackson's short stories, the novel 1984, and the novel Lord of the Flies. Fun times...

There are several typos in this story, but they'll be fixed as soon as our web guys have time to do an update. I'm establishing a CCP beta readers group to help me weed out errors in future chronicles.

Good read, quiet an interesting story with bits a pieces being left to the imagination.
I always find the bits of 'technology' and how life is when not in a ship to be most interesting. Housing units being modular and expanded as necessary for example. The little details added at the beginning of "Following the Fans: Energy and Money" are another example.

Very nice to see stories that are an affirmation of life everywhere, fantastical or otherwise, being shades of grey, rather than a simple stark contrast between good and bad.
Too many people just immediately identify Amarr as 'Bad' and Minmatar as 'Good' from their cultural relationships when there is clearly a much deeper story between all of the EVE societies than simple good and bad/evil.

/me agrees with Qixa.
Also, love the story Abraxas, glad to see you return to writing single stories, (although I've enjoyed the Black Mountain ones of course!) Also great picture, looking forward to the next chronicles and the book.

Amarr holders. Matari warlords.
Brutality can take many forms, yes? I believe it ultimately comes from a lust for power. When a power vacuum is created, forces fight for control.
And then, with power at your fingers, would you have the self-control, temperance, and wisdom on how to use it?
And what is wise? One person's freedom fighter is another's terrorist. One person's protection is another's *****down on liberty. |
