I've had my fill, after waiting days to finally get a major skill I spend all my harder earned isk to upgrade my ship and got 3 miner II's and am all fired up to go mining... but no. Because my corp is at war with some random people I don't even know they are allowed to camp 1.0 newbie space and blow me away. And the real kicker is I would have gotten away fine had it not been for the glorious 20 second lag, by the time I can even see my screen I am already scrambled and dead. There goes my entire life savings in the blink of an eye and not a thing I could have done about it. Im sorry I do not have the kind of time to deal with this, its been fun good luck to you all.

If you don't want the benefits of a player corp, stay in the NPC corp. Sounds to me like you didn't notice the wartargets in local.

Edited by: Kneebone on 11/03/2008 01:23:44 Ignore the jackholes that tend to tread on these forums. Your corp should help you if thats the case, its the whole point of joining a corp to begin with.
What you can do in the mean time is drop your corp for now and go back to your NPC corp until the war dec is over. If you think you would enjoy the game given some better circumstances this doesn't have to be the end of the road. Maybe consider looking into Eve University or some of the other corps that offer to help new players get going. Starting out in a corp that is allied with Goonswarm might not be the best thing right now considering the goons have declared war on highsec people and are suiciding people whoa re trying to do exactly what you are trying to do as well.
Either way I hope it works out for you Shy Gal. Sometimes bad things just happen in this game.

Well for the people not expecting it, Eve can be brutal. The learning curve is rather sharp.

Sounds like you broke a few golden rules:
1. Never fly something you can't afford to replace 2. Take out insurance 3. Check Local 4. Joining a player corp has advantages and disadvantages.....risk assessment is the key.
I'm sad to see anyone leave, but if you don't like it then that's up to you. Given some very small changes in circumstances, it might have been a very different story. I'd encourage you to reassess and reconsider your decision in a day or two.
Cheers Falka

If you pay that little attention to whats going around you, and get that upset by loosing a ship EVE is not the game for you. Probably a good idea to quit yes. Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Kreul Intentions ([email protected]) |

I invited you to join my corp, we would have replaced the ship in the rare circumstance that we were wardecced if you had done so. But then you wouldn't have been mining in 1.0 anyway. bad luck but choose yr friends more carefully in whatever other game you decide to play. And btw everyone has felt like this at some point in Eve. Most people get annoyed for an hour or so, and then get over it. Maybe you should sleep on it before deciding to jack it in?

Thanks for the advice everyone, yes this was a ****ed off rage post. I know things arn't as bad as they seem, just really burns me that I have been so careful, all those rules you mention I try to follow to the tee but after so many hours of mindless jumping in high sec and never seeing a soul you kinda just glaze over and just hit the next yellow stargate marked. I know it was my fault but dang going from pumped to zero in a second really bites. I joined the corp because it was from a website that I visit I had no idea of their association with goonswarm or what that ment. I think I want to take a little break and do something a little less stressful for a while but I probably will give it another shot. Cheers to the community, if this was any other game forum I was expecting nothing but GTFO ect.

See you later.
Sorry that this happened to you, but... you shouldn't have posted.
You had advance warning about the war, you spent all your money on one ship, you didn't use scouts, or think before you undocked... And now you've declared you're leaving, and when you stay in the game or come back...
Not the brightest, these things you've done.

Well let's see, you could have:
1) Not had your "life savings" invested in one ship with no backup
2) Paid attention to corp chat and corp mails
3) Insured your ship
4) Checked Local for the blinkey red stars (they're a give away)
Not to sound too rude, but there were things you could have done.
You perhaps weren't aware of them, but there we go - you know now :-)

Maybe you have't noticed but she was destroyed after passing a jumpgate.
Especially if she is a relatively new player it is natural that she had not a alt scout running before her to check for people she was at war.
Moving around using a barge during a war is never a good idea, but we learn from mistakes.

Well who hasnt been in your place?
Just take a little rest and learn from this - I reckon you will be able to make that cash soon enough and you can remember this recent encouter as a good lesson learned.
The first time my corp got war decced I decided to give the "Can you trade from a signle stn" idea a good test - and I have never looked back.
If it's too much - ask your CEO permiss to leave the corp for the duration of the war

If you think EvE is too harsh, then yes perhaps you should find another game. However hear me out.
In time that harshness will harden you. You will grow smarter (game wise) and more calculating. You will soon begin to enjoy the harshness and the pending doom around every corner. You will pat yourself on the back and give out a great sigh of victory when you achieve something that >may< have been dangerous.
So many MMO's today cater to people who don't really want to risk losing anything. If you die...you just run back to your corpse/respawn...and at worst maybe you have an experience loss. Eve is all about Risk vs Reward. You risked your "expensive" mining ship with its miner II's, because you were after the reward of higher mining output. You bet that you could mine safely, and you lost.
Next time...if you are at war and not wanting to actively take part in the pew pew aspoldey times going on around you...then fly a cheaper mining ship. Mining frigs may work slower...but a few cycles of the mining lasers and the bugger is paid for.
Look at it as a blessing in disguise. You have learned a very tough lesson early on. Now imagine months had gone by, you had never been killed, and you have amassed a huge wealth. You invest it in a 100mil hulk to really start raking in the dough...and the boom...you lost over 100mil all at once.
You got off lucky. It could have been worse. Learn from it, become stronger, and get back in there.

Originally by: Shy Gal I joined the corp because it was from a website that I visit I had no idea of their association with goonswarm or what that ment.
If the site was SomethingAwful.com, then i have good and bad news.
The good news is that this alliance has some pretty decent infrastructure in place to keep newbies operating in their chunk of 0.0 space, and they own the majority of decent video tutorials on youtube. Talk to your corp mates and see if they can set you up in one of their secured operations. With 0.0 corps it's usually best to head over there right away as the corp itself can assure no nasty people come bother you.
The bad news is that you are pretty much stuck with the corp you are in. Corporation histories are a permanent record and you joined the one alliance that enjoys little to no sympathy outside of its immediate allies (see this link). Which means that you will be unlikely to find a decent corp to join should you decide to leave. If you decide Goonswarm is not for you, your best bet is to reroll your character.
The rest has all been said. Expect to lose your ship. Bigger is NOT better, a fact that actually appears to be a core credor of Goonswarm (seeing their prefferred style is overwhelming their enemies with a never ending wave of replacable frigate and cruiser sized ships rather than a single wave of hard hitting battleships backed up by T2 vessels.
You have a number of hard choices to make. Learning to adapt to the volatile nature of EVE or leaving for a game that offers a more controllable experience, and staying with Goonswarm or rerolling so you can join another corp. I wish you luck with those.

Now if u had stayed in ur npc corp u would not have had to worry about war decs but since u did join a player corp either they failed u or u disregarded their instructions...Most newbie's don't know the right questions to ask b4 joining a corp...Good reasons to join a corp--they help pay or provide learning skills; they provide certain ships once u have attained certain lvl of skills along with mods;they replace ships when acting to the benefit of the corp or aid in same etc etc.
