Like star trek deep space 9 it can jump in deploy mode its dockable can deploy sentries and fighters or bombers for def...to kill it you have to reinforce it like a regular out post....eats strontium during reinforce...if you fail to come back on 12 hr timer it all starts over ...all with limits naturally....let's the crying and trolling begin |

a station is a warp able structure, so they would literally have to somehow make it so when you warp to 0 to it you will follow it in what ever direction it goes. as far as drones on it. I don't see why not but at the same time you kinda already is doing that. just full of ships not drones.

What role and purpose would this fill? I am not against it...but you have to have a good reason for introducing something other than "It was in Star Trek". EvE is not about PvP.-á EvE is about the SANDBOX! - CCP!-á Open the door!!! |

Mothership with a super shield?
Miners would dig this for weekend ops.
Would imagine that it cannot warp with the shield up, or it would be super OP. Imagine a mining fleet that never needs to leave the shield bubble - in or out of the field.
Can't see it happening though... even I can figure a way to have fun with this thing. |

Actually I suggested something like this back before the orca days, similar but the concept is still sound.
The purpose as I see it would be to give the non alliance aligned small corps a opportunity to set up shop in deep space regardless of sov and do some ninja mining or plexing in potentially hostile space or neglected space.
In order for it to fit properly it should be limited to storage and docking.
Example: 5 Hulk/BS size ships can dock at any given time One storage hanger say 5 Million M3
And its defense and jump range should be balanced as such that the farther you jump the less defensive capabilities it would have. This could be governed by high slot and mid slot and low slots easily enough.
Example: If the high slots are fitted with all drone control units the deep space vehicle could field say 20 fighters to aid in defense, however if they are fit with jump drive enhances they can jump farther for each sacrificed offensive high slot. (Fitting needs to be done in station only before launch)
Fitting would be like any other ship mid and low wise to accommodate ewar or massive hit pints.
Defenses could be left online but guns should only be operable by a docked pilot with POS gunning roles. (Basically insuring if you go afk or offline it better be manned or unanchored and logged off) Easy to anchor, say 5 mins but 1 hour to unanchor leaving you in limbo while the ship unanchors (no offensive systems)
A reinforced timer I agree should be limited severely as it is a ship and like a pos that should be limited to strotium maybe a max of 12 hrs for a full stront bay would be about right.
On the flip side large alliances could utilize these remote stations to launch attacks from thus negating the advantage of restricting docking rights as well as low sec entities. I can definitely see advantages to having these type of ships in the game and increasing not only brave new ninja mining / plexing ops but also increasing the battle arsenal for sov warfare as well.
As a side note sov wise they should not be able to anchor in a jammed system.
Imagine the possibilities however. In absence of station guns and gate guns a few of these manned ships anchored at a gate or around a station under siege by the PL blob would now have a new threat to contend with :)

You mean like the combination of a mother-ship, rorqual and toe-hold POS all wrapped into one... ?

Ok, try this out as a variation.
A freighter sized ship that deploys itself. (Becomes this port-a-station you described)
Requires anchoring 5, etc. (It stops being a ship once deployed)
Noone pilots it. (what?)
It is effectively a big drone. Huge freighter sized thing. The person who owns / unanchors it is automatically in a fleet with it, and guides it through intra-system warps with fleet commands. For use of jump gates, it will always attempt to jump after the controlling pilot. Cannot jump except by jump gate. Cannot use jump bridges. Cannot shift back to mobile mode with pilot's online and inside. (Offline pilot's will come back in the last ship they had selected as active, at the location where the station had been, exactly as if they had logged off in space.)
Moving this thing will be dangerous, and if the controlling pilot's ship gets destroyed and podded, it drifts until the next pilot claims it.
Option: Possibly limit which ships can act as controller to move it. |
