Can I complete an agent mission with a ship but leave all the loot and salvaging for a different one? I'm talking basically at least two runs.
I'm not so sure (and can't try it out for myself right now) because mission locations seem to only be open once you activate them and until you complete them.

Right click a wreck and choose bookmark location. Label it,( 1-1/1-2/1-3 next mission 2-1/2-2....), so you know what room the wrecks are in. Return to station and turn in the mission. All warp gates will dissapear.
When you leave the station after turning in the mission you will right click in space and look for the name of the BookMark (BM) warp to 0 in you salvage boat and go to town.
You can sometimes do 3 missions in a row and then borad the salvage ship. Open the peaople and places tab and go to the plaaces tab and choose the 1-1 BM salvage...rinse and repeat in order from oldest to newest mission.

Thought the bookmark would disappear or not work. Great stuff Slade, thanks!

Now I salvage all my wrecks before turning in the mission as I always have plenty of time left without missing out on the bonus...Certain wrecks disappear more rapidly which is one reason I do so...
In longer missions with a lot of rooms,I will do a room and then warp out and bring back my salvage destroyer to salvage the room. And then go back to my combat ship and go thru to the next room etc...
Most of the time in shorter missions, I just kill everything and then come back in the salvage ship to collect everything and then go back and turn in the mission...

turn in the mission before you salvage, you can use mwd for speeding things up and you don't have gates to negotiate

Either way is fine--I just prefer the way I do it for the reasons I gave--if I ever get short of time then I would turn in the mission first....
Another thought--when I was new and only had the one ship and was in lvl 1 missions I usually used two of my high slots for a salvager and a tractor beam and just salvaged as I went--sometimes I would salvage each group separately in a room where they did not all aggro at once--lol

Right, followed the advice in this thread, have just started salvaging and am loving it!
However, you guessed it, I have a couple of questions for ya:
1) What shall I do with the salvaged stuff? Sell it right there and then at the station?
2) How many salvagers (T1 in my case) do you think I should fit in my ship. I'm trained for lvl 2 in salvaging.

1. Unless you are going to build your own rigs, stockpile the salvage and haul them to a market system to sell, where you will get better prices.
2. If using a destroyer, you can use 4 tractor beams and 4 salvagers. Some people prefer 3/5 layouts either way.

Amazing how I got that right; and yes, I'm using my former destroyer equipped w/ two cargo extenders (~600 cap.) I've just installed 4 salvagers however I've no skills yet to use tractor beams (I don't think.)
Let me ask you one last question. How can I actually do market research so as to find out where to sell the stuff? And what about different regions? The market window, for instance, seems to be limited to the region you're currently in...

Each region usually has market centers. You can look at the regional prices and find the place with best prices (i.e., with buy orders of high prices). You can then go there and sell to these buy orders, or make your own sell orders with competitive pricing and hope someone buys.
Unfortunately I only know of Rens, the central market in Matari space, but there are several others in various regions. The central market hub in the entire universe is Jita, BUT DON'T GO THERE!!

Thanks for the info Heimdal! Lol, I'll keep away from infamous Jita, as I've heard much already about it and I'm not suicidal.

Ok first off, jita is not that bad if you dont go there during the weekends. The other market hubs are Amarr in Amarr space, and Oursalert in Gallente space. There are some other smaller 'mini hubs' scattered around, usually near busy 0.0 pipelines or busy mission hubs.
Second, if you can fly a gallente cruisers and have decent drone skills (which i am assuming since you recently retired your catalyst, and you are gallente so I am going to assume some proficency with drones), you can run level 1 and 2 missions in a vexor fit for salvaging. As your drones kill the rats you tractor the wrecks and clean them up. The only drawback here would be running out of cargo room on missions with tons of rats, but as most loot from level 1 and 2 missions is junk at best, this isnt much of a problem imo. -=^=-

Just remember - wrecks disappear after 2 hours (sometimes less). I generally make sure I go back within an hour to loot and salvage.

ItÆs an old debate, turning in the mission or not before salvage.
Some thought on either method.
A. Turn in the mission and bookmark rooms: - Able to Microwarpdrive when looting - Better standing gain when doing a quicker job - You can salvage more than one mission.
B. Salvage first, turn in the mission later: - Harder to probe you down - More roundtrips
As a rule of thumb I would say method A in Hi-sec and method B in Low-Sec. Just remember if you do missions i Low-sec don't use drones in any rooms they cause you loose the ôHarder to probe you downö benefit.
Another way to do it is to work together with someone (preferably corpmate), one mission runner and one who do the salvaging.
About the tractor/salvager fitting. Assuming you are using a destroyer any of the following fittings will do:
4 x tractors, 4 x salvagers û Classic fitting. Works fine. 3 x tractors, 5 x salvagers û A little bit faster if the loot is in a tight cluster. If itÆs more spread out IÆll go with the 4/4 fitting (but thatÆs just me). 3 x tractors, 4 x salvagers, 1 x cloaking device û Some precaution when looting in Low-sec in case someone jumps in.
Selling.
Hmm, well if you want decent cash fast, go to the nearest trade hub and just sell the stuff to the higest bidder.
If you donÆt mind waiting then put up some sell orders. I usually donÆt go to the major hubs for this, the undercutting is too fierce (especially in Jita, actually I think Jita makes the entire The Forge market nerfed) and you need to monitor your orders a lot. If you are missioning in Gallente I would say Doodixie is a pretty good place to sell your loot.
The easiest way to sell stuff is probably just to contract it all. Finding the right price kan be tricky though.
Good luck with your looting.
Oh, check the contracts. Sometimes people who donÆt want to loot their stuff contracts their mission bookmarks for free.

U notice he said "trade hub" above--a solar system out in the middle of nowhere is not a trade hub... Jita, Rens, Essence, Sinq Laison, Domain have major hubs--u can have alts in a couple of the hubs and use them to check prices....alloyed trit bars will almost always sell at highest prices in Jita..I sell most of my salvage in Rens, Domain (emperor) or Jita...

1) You have to have Science 4 to use the Tractor beams.
2) The higher you level your salvaging skill the faster you will salvage per salvager. Each level improves the odds that a salvaging cycle will be successful. Also, there are some wrecks that you can't salvage at the lower levels.
3) The more salvager's you have targeted the more opportunities you have to salvage. If you have two salvager's running - each gets it's chance. One does not improve the other's chance though. Each Salvager's odds of being successful are determined solely by the level of your Salvaging Skill. If one Salvager is successful, the other has wasted it's cycle time, so if you have multiple wrecks it is better to spread your salvager's out.
4) You want to have Salvage trained to Level IV.
Thus, if you have one wreck targeted with one Salvager on it and Salvage Level IV your odds of salvaging the wreck are increased only based on your salvage level.
If you have two salvager's targeted on a wreck each of them gets a chance at it each cycle.
So - if you have multiple targets it's best to split your salvager's up but as soon as you salvage one target - if you don't have a new one to put it on - move it over to the wreck that is left.
5) Tractor beams reach out 20km. You can actively tow wrecks behind your ship with them and salvage the wrecks while under tow.
6) Tractor beams tow at 500m/s. Thus, if you have your AB/MWD on - you can outrun the object you are towing. If you get more than 20km from it ... you'll lose the lock.
For Level I missions ... I tend to just fly the mission in the Destroyer. I've got 4 weapons mounted, two tractors and two salvager's. As long as things aren't going to badly, as soon as I kill the the rats I lock their wrecks and begin towing them behind me while I kill the others. I tow each solid wreck to within 1500m, loot it and only then begin to salvage it. If the wreck symbol is hollow, it has no loot and I begin salvaging as soon as it comes within 5km. If you salvage the wreck before it has been looted - you can lock onto the can and tow it - but then you have to do that. One advantage of towing your wrecks this way is that if a loot thief comes along ... it makes it a little harder for him to steal your loot.
7) You cannot tractor other people's stuff, such as wrecks or cans. You also can't tractor other ships. You can however salvage other people's wrecks. Unlike with LOOTING their wrecks - you are not flagged for Salvaging. Still, it's polite to ask before salvaging wrecks that aren't yours. If you don't hear a Salvager working when you come in system ... chances are they won't care. I approach the wreck, wait a little while and if no one answers then I go ahead and salvage it. If you aren't actively pirating ... being polite can make you some friends where ... not being polite can make you some enemies. No point in just making enemies for no good reason.
8) If you don't have the time or energy to run a mission, high sec ratting in a destroyer works really well. You can use your MWD's. There are no rat's or numbers of rats it can't handle and just cleaning up the wrecks that other people didn't bother to salvage can be lucrative in and of itself.
9) I also tend to put a Salvager and Tractor beam on my Haulers. That way, if they're supporting a mining operation they can tractor in and salvage the wrecks the Mining Barge's Drones have killed. If they're just flying around hauling stuff ... depending on what kind of cargo they're carrying ... I salvage any wrecks I happen to come across. If I've got a valuable cargo and spot a wreck on my outbound trip ... I'll deliver the cargo and then salvage the wreck on the way back if it's still there.
