I already have one level of Minmatar BS, but since i picked up a Hurricane, my enthusiasm for getting a BS has waned somewhat.
I'm just in love with the Hurricane - its looks, its slot layout, its potential for laying down some serious hurt with the right fittings.
Based on my experience in EVE so far, I've come to the conclusion that fundamentally, a good pilot will exploit the potential of his/her craft to the utmost. I don't want to train like mad to get into a BS, and barely have enough in-game skills (note to mention RL skills for the game) to fly one, and fly one poorly. The 'cane really is a ship which would shine with T2 fittings and a pilot that loves flying one. So I really plan to spend time with my 'cane and explore its potential. In sohrt, I'd like to become a "Hurricane Specialist."
So, in that regard, I'd like to leave this forum more or less open to all Hurricane pilots (and others who care to share) who would like to offer their advice on fittings, battle experience, and general/specific thoughts about this great ship.
I'm ready to learn.
Thanks!

I guess I'll give my $0.02.
The hurricane is a fine ship in general, but not sure what you mean by "hurricane specialist." I guess the first question is, what do you want to do with it?
It's not really a mission ship (I prefer cyclone), so I am guessing for pvp. If it's for lowsec and you are in a pirate corp, it can "tank" the gate guns for a short time as long as there are other corp members to share the gate fire, but in general you will feel the hurt.
It's a good ship in general in a small group, because it does have good dps for a bc w/ t2 fit and it's an armor tank so you can also tackle, which is always a bonus. It's good to train bc stuff because it can then lead to a command ship, which are good ships claymore (great tank), and sleip (good dps and tank).
The hurricane is a cheap throw away ship, but your mileage will very if you are a "hurricane speciaist." In any encounter of three or more and you are called primary you will go down in a hurry. It doesn't have the rep armor bonus like the myr nor the drake's resist bonus.
I have bc 5, and everything t2 in my hurricane...not sure if that makes me a "specialist," but I do fly it here and now. It's a good roaming ship, if you can't fly command ship and need something faster than a bs. That is how I see it fit it's role anyways.

Heya. If you haven't check out the battleclinic forums, there are some pretty basic (and innovative) hurricane setups there. I know there's a fellow by the name of Zlicknarch who specializes in them, I'm sure he'd be happy to help if you sent him an evemail. His signature there reads..
Quote:
P.S. I only load on my bogstandard fitouts here. I do not give secrets away. I specialise in minmatar fitting and especially the incrediblecane. If you are thinking of trying a cane and want some help message me in eve - my name is "zlicknarch". Classic, customised and deadly fitouts for specific purposes.
Good luck :)

I am a hurricane pilot, i love my cane, i have even done lvl 4's with it, if u want to know what i like about it is that u can to a combo tank, armor tank with speed to evade. i just fit out my cane with a DCU II and the tech 2 hardeners, and one Med repper, in the meds one afterbruner II, domination webber, tracking CPU II, cap recharger. 6 720 scout artillery 2 3200 missile launchers, 2 rigs for power grid and one for cap recharge, this setup is meant for a engage meant of about 25km, i can solo 4 lvl 4 BS's as long as they don't use missiles, cause on this setup, i always have the after burner on, hope this helps, i to love the BC class, i have tried the BS class in lvl 4's but just don't like them. and I'm not about to follow the norm and use a CNR.

I regard the Hurricane as the T1 version of the Sleipnir. They are both very similar ships (sleip is slightly better in just about every regard) and both do what they are meant to do very well, and thats dealing the pain.
I basically fly the hurricane when I don't want to risk losing my sleipnir. So my advice is to specialise in the hurricane and when you're good at flying it train for a sleipnir, you won't be dissapointed.
Another thing is with both these ships - you're gonna get called primary very fast indeed (if not 1st)

When you said Hurricane specialist I thought you were refering to me ^^; I been flying hurricane exclusively since i started eve for about 3 month... Ok maybe I'm not an expert but I do know it is it one of the most versatile ship in the game.
For mission running I have a passive shield regen hurricane that can do any lvl 3 missions. You can find the build on Battle clinic. (Use artillery cannons) For lvl 4 I feel it just doesn't have enough dps even with tech 2 fittings if you want to live to tell your tales about it of course. I carry my salvage and armor repair equipment in a medium canster so I can salvage and repair on missions requiring me jumping 3+ solar systems. After I am done with an agent I can move all my missioning equipment with that ship alone so it is very versatile in lvl 3 mission wise.
I have another hurricane just for pvp with dual armor rep and resist. (auto cannons) It works very well in small groups and you can even fit warfare links to boost your small gang.
Basicly the hurricane can do everything and is fairly cheap. It is not the best at everything but it can sure do it for a cheap price and a fairly good too. Artillery cannons = Worst Dps, range and ammo cap. No cap... Why do we need cap for anything els if your sniping. |

the cane is by far the best t1 bc for pvp. It can also solo decently. You just fit a passive plate tank, some armor resist mods 2-3 gyros and a rack of 425mm's with Hail and EMP M. Use mids for whatever you like depending on gang. Mwd is a must, then you can fit what best suits you, if you're solo, use tackle if you're in a gang use utility mods.

In a Hurricane I often try to stick a bit further away (like, 14-15km) in the begging of the fight, as people are reluctant to primary something they can't web (and if they do, you can MWD out of range quite fast, then MWD back in when they cease primarying you, making them waste time).
I fly the ship a lot. Solo it's one of the better BCs due to preety good speed/agility (in addition to a mediocre tank but very good damage), and in gangs it's rather good being a relatively cheap DPS ship (with quite high-tracking guns and so-so range) which is still quite mobile.
I prefer cap-injected dual rep setups on the thing, they enable you to tank sentries somewhat, and generally don't sacrifice speed/agility as plated versions do.

I've never been a big fan of tanking, and not many minmatar ships can tank particularly effectively, so I tend to use gank setups.
6x 425mm AC IIs 2x HAML IIs
1x 10mn MWD II 1x Warp Disruptor II 2x LSE IIs
3x Gyro IIs 2x OD IIs 1x DCU II
2x Shield Extender Rigs 1x Falloff Rig
Stick at 12-15km and use Barrage, or go balls to the wall and sit at 2km with Hail and melt the target's face with 750 DPS (my skills.)

the cane is one of the nicest ships ingame... i like flying it alot.
Advice: train armor tanking skill and and gunnery skills to fit 425mm guns. the damage is VERY nice on that thing whit good skills.
the ship it self is very versatile... it can be fitted in alot of different ways :)
shield tank (alltho a poor one), armor tank, plate, speed tank... anything really :P ---------------------------------- MY VIEW ARE MY OWN, I DON'T REPRESENT MY CORPORATIONS VIEWS HERE... stop mailing me.. plz

I thought if there's a Drake fan club, there's gotta be Hurricane one as well.
Nice to see so many of you appreciating this ship as much as me, and I haven't even seen the half of what this thing can do. I really plan to push the envelope with this, and plan to really give it a go on Level 4's when the time comes.
Some interesting layout ideas here . . . thanks for the replies!

I use that setup to, the only difference is I don' thave the rigs.
I get 481dps with EMP M and 592dps with Hail M.

Two schools of thought for the 'cane. One is using A/Cs for short range mayhem, the other is 650 or 720 Arty for long range.
The difference is the damage you take being in close with A/Cs will require some serious consideration to your tank.
The arty option (which I prefer) lets you deal on them from a safer distance, utilizing your 3 Hammerhead IIs to their max. (Hobgoblin lights or any light drone seem to be a bit fragile on level 3 missions.) Depleted Uranium is a good ammo to use. You'll have to get closer to use Plasma on EM/Thermal (Sansha, Blood Raiders) but they go down fast.
The versatility of going either long or short range, the versatility of dealing different damage with the ammo available, and using either heavy launchers or heavy assault launchers (long vs short range) makes the Hurricane my favorite ship.
You can certainly play with the setups to your heart's content, that's the beauty of it.

I'm not so much a hurricane specialist as a BC specialist who's flown the Hurricane in a few configurations some. Basically compared to other BCs the hurricane kind of sucks. With 2 damage bonuses it does simalar damage to a tank-fitted Brutix but without the rep bonus. While dual-repping a Brutix isn't always the way to go, without a tank bonus the Hurricane really needs it. You COULD passive tank with plates, but that really gives up the only advantage the Hurri has-speed and manuverability. As a side not the Hurri CAN still speed tank, but it only gets much above 3km/s with snakes and faction fittings. Most people can easily wait for you to slow down to track, then overload web and MWD and tackle you.
So your best armor tanked fit would probly be:
6x 220mm AC IIs w/ Republic Fleet EMP, 1x Arby or T2 HAMs 10MN MWD II(Important, you are minmatar!), Med injector w/ 800s, scram, web 2x MAR II, 2x EANM II, DC II, Gyro II
I'd recommend ECM drones, with Hobgoblin IIs you'll only get about 100 more dps with good skills.
On paper there are alot of better BCs but you've got almost the agility and speed of most races cruisers in a BC, and a sexy sexy hull. -- Distortion| Distortion 2 Preview |

For those who try to compare the hurricane to other BC's and claim the cane to be inferior. First thing you need to realize is that it has excellent damage, not as much as some other bc's ALTHOUGH it can outrun them.. PERIOD, put my cane up to ANY bc out there and I will kill it, guaranteed.

Strange. In real life, at least, artillery is supposed to be a devastating weapon. Perhaps a slower rate of fire, but quite damaging hits. Maybe artys in EVE don't do justice to their RL counterparts . . .

flown it allot, here are my tips:
1: use 220 ac's with faction emp, as t2 cuts your tracking in half, then either tank it or gank it depending on personal taste and style.
2: use ecm drones, ive taken out a Sleipnir single-handed with them
3: never ever shield tank a cane, anyone that does results in a huge fail, ive fought so many shield tanking canes and it does not work, you lose the tackling ability for solo work, and doesent give any bonus over a 1600rt plate and an eanm.
4: have fun, its such a good ship the only bc it doesent beat is the drake as a well fitted drake can tank 800-1000 dps (over powered much).

Well in the modern society it is, but eve takes place thousands of years in the future. So in even term the artillery is utterly outdated.

The Hurricane is easily one of the best and most cost effective ships in EvE. With good skills you'll be able to do solid damage outside of webb range (fall-off rigs ftw), tank alright, and outrun almost anything bigger/nastier than you. Here is my max skills set-up, use only one fall-off rig if you're short on grid. Hi: 6x 425mm IIs w/ Barrage, 2x Named HAMs Mid: 10MN MWD II, Tracking Comp II w/tracking script, Webb, 20km pt. Low: MAR II, 800mm RT, DCU II, 2x EANM II, Gyro II Rigs: 1x Explosive Armor, 2x Projectile Fall-Off Drones: ECM, or Mixed Damage One particularly nasty aspect of this set-up is that frigs are great risk of being insta-popped if they try to tackle you at under 20km. If you're gonna be tanking gate guns, it would be better to use a 1600mm RT or a dual MAR II. But even then a tank BC like a Myrmiddon w/ACs will do it better.
