now i am not sure way jita is so bad, i understand ccp are using all the latest h/w and have jita on its on separate blade/server. so cant knock ccp for that. but:-
charge 5k isk every time someone chats in local (does this cause lag?)
remove missions from jita
remove exploration from jita
remove most planets and moons , or most of them
charge 10k to enter jita
just throwing some ideas up in the air

Finally fix that skill that allows placing remote buy orders? That would mean only hauling people need to go in and out of the system.
Put docking fees on major trading hubs?

Jita is a player induced head ache.
If you take away missions, jita will just move to another system. Part of the allure is the missions, and being able to just sell right away. There are other systems that get bogged as well just not as much as Jita.
Charging 5k, means nothing to isk spammers, its just an ad fee.
Probally the best way to fix it would be remote shopping. I would say one hour per jump for delivery of item. So if you are 3 jumps away, you buy something, it gets delivered 3hrs later, you could have a skill to reduce the time. I would limit it to the region, but this would remove some of the flying in and out and spread it out over multiple systems.
Industrialists already do have some bonuses that allow for selling and buying remotely but from what I understand the item stays in that station.
If you added a Interstellar shipping company(there are already many NPC corps that are labeled this way) that would move goods.
Deliveries should either have a charge based on distance, or a time factor, or both. IE: .05 percent per jump. or 1 hour per jump
Combined example: Standard freight - .05% per jump, each jump one hour Improved freight - .10 percent per jump, each jump 1/2 hour Express freight - .5 percent per jump, each jump 5 mins
Have this available to all for moving of gear in highsec. You could look at low sec as well, with added charge for each low sec jump. So kind of like auto pilot you can choose shortest route, may be more expensive if goes through low sec, or you can choose cheapest route, avoids low sec as much as possible.
You make the lowest fee Markets be in systems that have no missions at all. If jita's market fees were high, but all the systems around it's fees were much lower.

It's amazing what a planet killer or two will do discourage people from aggregating in a single system. Or just drop the security status to 0.0 and have all those BS spawns. All that commerce should really be attracting the major pirate factions.

Nothing is wrong with remote buy orders, they work fine.
Now, remote stacking in remote hangers, that would be a huge benefit to remote traders. That is the only reason I stick around Jita full time to trade.

I actually think that the majority of people in Jita are people who go there because its the trade hub. Sure mission running helped establish it as the hub, but it has grown to the point where it should be able to sustain itself if the mission running ended.
How many people are stupid enough to do combat missions/exploration in Jita's lag ?

I thought it was quite common sense to everybody that the ONLY way to fix Jita (or new "jitas" to come) is to tax orders according to the number of orders/ISK/population in the system/station per day/hour.
This tax would slowly grow until Jita become habitable again.
NOTE: The tax is for all stations/systems not only Jita so that a "New Jita" takes its place.

Edited by: Gahjek on 24/03/2008 20:36:21 good ideas here and points, hope the devs will respond in time
how about:-
only enter jita if have a 7.0 standing with caldria state?
no 2nd, 3rd, etc accounts to be logged on in jita at same time
need to push the trading into nearby systems, so jita and 1 jump are all trade hubs?
i'm not actually sure what is the main cause of lag in jits? is it the local chat channel? missions? the planets, staions moon graphic? or the 700 ppl in system? although 700 ppl in system should not cause that much lag? to be honest i dont know, but would like to

Applying any "solutions" specifically to Jita will result in one of the following ways; a)It will change nothing b)Main trade hub will move elswere and be as bad.
There was a hub in Yulai when the server was young. CCP changed gates to Youlai to remove laggy trade hub, so Jita formed.
Any solutions designed to solve lag in big trade hubs should be applied based on server load/people in local/transactions per week/whatever other stat - not arbitraty choice of Jita.
