I think it's about time to complain about this again, no? If you had a dollar for every time you had to change "&" to "&" in a URL that the forums mangled, how rich would you be? I think i'd have a better gaming rig, myself.
Is there any status update/ETA on when the forums will actually be comparable in basic forum functionality to a basic phpBB forum that takes 10 minutes to install? What do you get when you open this link?
http://kb.redalliance.ru/?op=kill&id=537953
or
http://kb.redalliance.ru/?op=kill&id=537953
I linked the text in the above one, but I get the second one. Meaning I have to manually alter the URL to show the page I wanted. I shouldn't have to do that. It's not what I put in the link, so it's not what I want to get when I use the link. |

Oh you want that filter to go away, when clicking on links. Its suppose to stop key loggers and stuff. I don't know when CCP would take that away or so.
Suppose maybe they should, with how easy it is to bypass. Least do something with it. disorientating |

Seriously, escaping URLs properly is not that hard. It's probably a one-liner fix that is being overlooked because it's such low-hanging fruit.

Some people don't know what your talking about because it works on some browsers and not others.
So it would likely be most helpful if you posted which browser you are using that its broken in.
It works in IE8 and IE9
Its broken in Chrome 17.0.963.56 m.
I'm not even sure its Eve forums thats the problem. Chrome was working fine on my end until the last update. |

Works fine for me if I middle-click to open the link in a new tab (redirects to warning page). Breaks if I left-click it and go through the popup warning.

No it doesn't. Nor does it work on Chrome, or IE8. I just tested all of them.

Check the URL, change the "&" to just "&" and watch it work. The Eve forum mangles URLs. That's what I am complaining about. Yes, this bug is pretty silly, as is the "%-sign + link breaks postGÇ¥ bug.
The former worked perfectly in the old forums: if you posted an HTML entity manually, it was preserved; if you posted an extended character, it was properly encoded. The latter bug seems to be an issue with poor string handling in the forum software GÇö it feeds the strings to the parser without sanity-checking them, so when it encounters the % sign (which is a control character in some string formatting functions), it chokes.
Fixing the former would open up for a simple fix for the latter, by the wayGǪ
That said, though, I seem to recall that & is a reserved character in XML precisely because it's used to declare character entities, so since the forums are an XML application, it's actually doing the right thing by escaping those ampersands GÇö the issue is that XML parsers are not required to translate those entities when processing the page, and some browsers deliberately avoid doing it for URL in particular. Some browsers do it; some don't, and regardless of the choice, they will be misdirected by certain links. GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

Using FF 10.0.2 well yeah, I gained this habit of pressing links with middle button since I got FF a handful of years ago.

GǪor rather, if a browser interprets a URL one way when activated normally, and in a different way when activated differently, the browser is quite obviously not being consistent and probably has a nice bug ripe for various code injection exploits. New tab appears to not work on Chrome as it does on Firefox (and I have not tested IE). On Chrome it does the same "popup" thing that the regular click does. It is that popup that is broken.
Besides, it's not that there isn't a workaround to follow links properly, but that CCP has delivered a broken product and it's taking them more than half a year to fix it.
Also particularly frustrating for me as a web developer to see things like this. But that's a personal issue. Rifterlings - Small gang lowsec combat corp specializing in frigates and cruisers.
