I want to talk about Fleet Commanders
I did most of my talking here in this video where I comment on 3 very different FC's in Low Sec ,A Wormhole, and in 0.0
I'm sure a lot of you have either flown with someone or had people fly with you so...

a glossary of common fleet words might come in handy.
ingate/outgate 'broadcast' and 'linked in fleet' best speed/burn wwwww anchor pounce/ping lemming
n00bs tend to go gate to gate and not think about stuff like pounce points n00bs just don't understand warping to a person, even when on watch list n00bs don't understand the concept of 'battlecomms'
anyways, great video and it really doesn't need a glossary. What do i think makes a great FC? repetition and 'situational awareness' (knowing terrain, good at intel)...what makes a bad FC? allowing backseat FCing from whiny bitches, foot dragging or waiting around for some guy 10 jumps out wanting to join, lack of 'rock paper scissor' tactical wisdom, confusing directions and dropping the 'j' word too much causing lemmings, plus not having a good scout. The biggest red flag of a bad FC is not having pounce points off gates and just loitering on gates too long and too many times (i'm not talking about the normal 'hold on gate' stuff for the +1 scout to report)
I think repetition is number 1. the patience to post destination YET AGAIN in fleet, and the wisdom to repeat transit/target orders verbally is key. repetition, repetition, repetition. |

I didn't make it to the null blob. I hate watching ships die in EVE. It's all about the scram, jam, thank-you m'am.
On FC, I only ever did it once and it was forced on me after FC crashed everyone in to a bubbled gate. Everyone under my wing lived. When they were all safed, I disbanded and logged out. |

Schmaeel can web/point, tamas are just damage and outside of high-sec you don't have to deal with contests (which I guess would be the reason for Tama > Schmaeel and much other strangeness?) anyways. |

TLDR: Be Prepared
There are different ways of FCing, depending on the situation, but here is some general advice:
1 ) Fleet Comms - No Talking, except by FC and Scouts.
If we are not in combat, and someone needs to bring something to the my attention, they should say like "comm check", or "fc". Then I would give them permission to relay whatever they need to relay.
2 ) Get to know your pilots and their ships.
A corporation or alliance may have a standard fitting for a ship and their pilots may be able to fit that fitting, but they will not necessarily have the support skills to fly that ship properly.
3 ) Make sure your scouts are pilots you can trust to have good internet connection and voice comms.
One of my first roams as FC, the scouts internet dropped twice within 15 minutes. We only had the one scout, so getting back out was painful.
3.5 ) Always have backup scouts and FCs.
The power goes out, you run out of beer, a former GOON shows up on your doorstep and shoves a gun in your face for popping his only Hulk.. . . .stuff happens. Always have a backup, and a cyno, to ensure the safety of the fleet.
4 ) If it takes you more than 15 minutes to form up for a scheduled operation, the operation is already a failure.
This applies mainly to defensive operations and operations with large null-sec entities on time sensitive operations. The longer it takes you to form up, spies leak more intelligence to your enemies, POSs sit un-repaired, and potential targets get away.
Also, if your pilots feel rushed to form up, they may miss of forget something, like ammo or capital fuel and only be a burden to the fleet.
5 ) The main body of the fleet should always move as a group.
Scouts are generally on their own looking for targets or gathering intelligence, but the FC and the rest of the fleet need to stay together. Always have the fleet align, then warp the fleet together, so that nobody stays behind to be tackled. If you notice someone did not warp with the fleet, make sure to verify their status on comms.
The only exception to the above rule is if you are burning in one direction, in which case your rear scout should be sure not to jump into the next system until all members have jumped out, and not warp off a gate until all members have warped.
6 ) Have "Don't Bump the (insert capital name here)" on macro.
jk jk . . . but even in large alliances with experienced FCs and pilots, I still see people bump the titans and super capitals. |

I like to point out primaries by saying "attack that ship near me!" I also want to make sure my logi knows whose primary target so it can send its drones to get on the killmail. If you are being attacked, you better let everyone know by saying "I am being attacked!" We will find you. Always warp to zero and aggress on first contact. Don't want to waste time getting those kills. |
