Please forgive me if this question has been asked many times in the past, but I don't frequent this side of the forums often enough.
I'm seriously becoming addicted to magnetometric and radar sites in 0.0. My problem is I recently got owned by a couple of cruisers that spawned after I (supposedly) cleared a mag site. Basically, I cleared the site from baddies with my battleship. Re-hopped on my Buzzard-class fit to hack/analyze. I start doing my thing when I get a spawn with 3 cruisers. I got a bit greedy trying to analyze the last box. I received a message that it's now open, but I wasn't allowed to loot it due to the presence of "guards". Obviously I needed to kill the spawn. But by me leaving the site to get back my combat ship I risk having the site despawn on me.
Eventually, I lost my Buzzard. I'm thinking about setting up my BS with the necessary tools to hack/analyze sites, but this just doesn't seem right. So my question to you is, what do you use once you clear the sites? How do you complete your exploration? How many ships do you use/set up?

For highsec, I use an imicus to scan and exploit the sites. The three hobgoblin IIs are more than enough to kill anything in the site. For lowsec, I use a covops to find the site and a myrmidon to clear and hack the site. I haven't done 0.0 yet, but I would do it the same way, I suppose. Use covops to find the site and a battleship to clear and exploit the site.
I would put the only necessary exploiting tools that I need. If I was finding a mag site, I would only put an analyzer and a salvager. If I'm doing a radar site, I would only put a codebreaker on there. Often times, things spawn after you open a can, so either bring a friend to clear out the site while you exploit, or put the tools on the ship you use to clear the site.

I use a domi with a cloak and a sisters scan probe launcher. It is more built for long term deployment but it can handle most things thrown at it including a radar site escalation that had 5 energy nuet towers, 12 cruise missile launchers and 5 drone bs and various other small drone badies. But it really depends on what you are trying to do and where you are doin it. BTW, I am looking for someone to run a courier job to my location with multi spec probes for a decent pay. Contact me if you are interested.

I tend to use a Drake and use the drones as little as possible, especially in low/nosec. I noticed a large i9ncrease in being jumped by missionprobers lately, and using drones increase hugely your chances to be found.

Not a great idea. Domi has a really ****ty scan time.

Having a station to change ships is a luxury I dont have so it is actually a great idea. I am scanning in "not my" territory and every ship is hostile and 40+ jumps to a station I can use though not one that is friendly. So for its purpose of long range exploration vessal, it is ideal. 300 secs for a scan but I do this for the rush of swimming in shark infested waters alone with noone to count on but myself. Its not about the isk but about the challenge and the reward is being able to successfully do it solo. But, as I said, it depends on where you are doin your exploration and the resources you have to do it. Personally, I can do level 4 missions till my face turns blue and it aint as fun as dodging hostiles and still getting it done. Anyway....

Thanks for the replies o/. Yesterday I noticed a pattern on mag sites. When I attempted to salvage/analyze the last wreck it triggered a spawn. It's happened 3/3 times on mag sites. So my advice is don't analyze on non-combat ships, atleast not the last wreck. You'll need a ship with atleast 1 free mid slot (for an Analyzer 1) and 1 free high slot (for a Salvager 1). Of course, the more free mids and highs you have the quicker you'll finish the 'exploration' part of the mission.
I ended up docking to refit my Raven, which was a little bit overkill, since the triggered spawn was only two battlecruisers.

In low sec I use a buzzard to scan, and Vexor for doing the sites. The vexor is adequate with it's decent armor tank and good drone skills.

I'm actually thinking about the T2 version, the Ishtar. Drones deal damage, which leaves the highs free for salvage and tractor beams. The meds can be used for afterburner/MWD and analyzers/codebreakers, and lows for a mean tank. But unfortunately I can't fly it yet. I've been also looking at the Myrmidon, which I can already fly.

I did a lot of 0.0 exploration about a year ago - only did Hack / ArcSal sites tho
For probing out i was using my trusty CovOps - nothing beats that scan time :)
For the actual sites i used a Myrmidon - no problems tanking all sites i encountered, decent damage and lots of slots for tractor/salvager/analyzer/codebreaker

I do Mag and Radar sites all the time and because i've grown used to knowing when ships spawn when and where i just stick with my chetah covert ops for opening the cans, and just warp away when they spawn , kill them with my 2nd account who uses a raven and warp back in and continue opening the cans.

Either two accounts, one with a cov ops, one with a BS or...
Kill all the rats except ONE. You have to leave one or the site MAY disapear (this has happened to me). Refit your BS with the hackers/analysers and do the cans.
AFAIK, there is not difference in the time/change the hackers will work depending in which ship they are fitted to.

Yeah, two accounts (or two players), one on specialized hacking/analyzing ship and other on combat ship, seems to be the ideal setup. But for solo and in 0.0 the options are limited. The Marauders seem like they could handle the job of heavy combat and hacking/salvaging.

Great success using an Ishtar for this. Drones can deal with almost anything and youve got enough mids for cap recharge and the hacking mod.

I understand the need, but there is still something I don't get. How do you manage the loot? Each time your hold is full you fly the 40+ jump to station?

I would use a covert ops, no doubt for probing. Nothing beats 130 second scan time with decent skills, rigs and a sisters launcher. For Magneto/Radar sites, I'd use a HAC similar to the Ishtar, or a Command ship. Personally I use a battleship(Domi) because my alt has just about 0 combat skills, the job gets done slowly but surely.
A decent tank, pretty good firepower and good speed seems to be the balance for these sites. What kind of ship skills do you have, and what ships/race do you fly?
