There was talk once of being able to select an object in space and select Align To from the list of things your ship can do (neither "the dishes" or "help maintain a healthy marriage" appear to be on the list, more's the pity).
The point is to be able to align to any warpable object without moving. A small thing, but it would fornit my fornus.

But if they added that, what incentive would we have for madly spinning our ships in space while desperately searching for the stupid gate thats been placed directly below/above us? -

There's nothing worse than using 'Warp to' to align, and hearing your corpmates call you many colourful things, as you warp the gangs only tackler out by accident

This would be a very good idea. I'm sure you're aware though you can click 'warp' to whatever you want to align to and then cancel it after you've aligned but before you warp. A simple align command would so much easier though.

Problem being that the more forgetful of us end up forgetting to cancel warp...to sighs of despair from our FC's

This works. But if you are using it to align to a far off stargate (or in a ship with poor cap) - you will find your cap gone before you go.

It's not too hard to accidentally warp even if you don't forget. :(
I must say the spin the camera around trying to find the item and then clicking 5 times in space does get a bit old. (clicking twice doesn't work for me... heck sometimes clicking 5 times doesn't work)

Select the celestial you wish to align to in your overview. You will see it's name at the edge of your screen in whatever direction is the correct way to turn towards it.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Unless it's behind your chat window, your overview, etc.

I agree, something to this effect is badly needed.
My idea is to have the "fly to" button on the overview always active, so that you cold command your ship to fly to any selectable object, no matter how far it is. ...

These are all great feedback, but one of the most important aspects of what IĈm suggesting is that your ship never moves except to turn. Mining ops would LOVE this feature for that reason.

The approach button working from any distance and a show BM's on overview check box in settings with or without brackets would increase CCPs' awesomeness by untold amounts. -------------------------------- As a Freelancer...scratch that Originally by: Shar Tegral Stop projecting your out of game beliefs of what society should be upon the rest of us.

Good point.
(note tongue in cheek)
Given the clutter on the overview, this is long overdue. As for why it hasn't happened, that is simple. Not enough whine is backing it given that a good portion of eve probably doesn't know what the heck aligning is.
