This new bracket system is one of the most annoying things introduced to eve lately.
What the hell is wrong? When you hover your mouse over a planet, it lists all the objects around that planet (with äshow all bracketsô setting on) but the most important objects like belts, stations are actually out of the screen because the list for some reason displays all the zillion moons (with no icons!!) first. Where is the logic here?
When you are actually at the planet, having ôshow all bracketsö on, it makes no difference, cause the moons have no icons, and you cannot actually tell where they are when scanning directional (you can of course turn off your ôoverview settingsö but OMG!, look at all those structures and other crap, how is that enhancing directional scan?) Where is the logic here?
When you actually randomly click on random planet, even with ôshow all bracketsö off, 99% of times it selects not a planet (which would be most logical), not a station, not a belt, but a moon!! Why the hell if I click on planet, itÆs actually moon which gets selected? Where is the logic here?
I understand that for most highsec dwellers, this isnÆt an issue, but for anyone living in lowsec or 0.0 this ôsystemö is pain in the ass. For instance, if you have to warp somewhere really quickly, you just canÆt click on random planet, cause its moon which you will select and if you press warp, very probably youÆll land at a POS and die. Instead, you have to hover your mouse on planet, wait 1-10 secs lag while it lists all the moons (great!!) just to find out that the moon list is so big that the belts and planet are actually on top of moon list and somewhere up off your screen borders (great)( I assume that everyone understand that IÆm not considering using rightclick menu here, cause its useless when you need to warp according to your alignment). What to do? You adjust your view so that the planet is in the lower part of your screen, repeat all the procedure again and hopefully it will be enough to see at least 1 or 2 belts on top of moon list. Where is the logic here?
Now about your own ship icon. Yes, there is no ship icon, because there is no ôAltö key function. Now for effective and quick directional scan you need to see your ship icon. Yes, you can click on your ship and you can scan at 5 degree again. Did you ever try to do it when you are cloaker??!! Great, you spend next 5 mins desperately clicking on your ship (you also have to zoom in to actually see where is your cloaker) trying to select it so you can actually continue your directional scan at 15 or 5 degree. Where is the logic here?
This might sound like a flame, but this bracket ôfeatureö seriously flawed directional scan. You cannot actually adapt somehow, its plain simple annoying as hell.

Alt+Z does not display your ship icon. It displays OTHER brackets, and still no moons. -----

As the poster above said. Alt+Z does only, well how to say, esthetical function - removes or adds icons in space. But if brackets are on, you still cannot see moons (???) and you still cannot see your ship's icon. So I believe anyone who is pvping has "show all brackets" settings on, but it really gimps your scanning and warping to object abbilities comparing to what it was before. |

Until then keep your overview options open and minimized at the point where you can check/uncheck the moon tick box at will. Annoying but about as quick as the old single key alt method with a bit of practice. And if you really need your ship bracket to use the 5 degree scanner angle then find something small and easily removable to stick to your screen whilst you play eve. Easiest way it to cut off a tiny corner of a piece of paper and wet it then stick it to the screen. Comes right off without a mark with the touch of a finger.

For scanning use the great tool from Grismar called ScanAid 0.2.
Hope that helps & is far neater than acetate sheets or bits of paper on your screen.

I've tryed that proggy and its very useful but unfortunatly it lags the client out rather badly. But thats only an issue if your in hostile space trying to quickly direction scan out targets. But by all means give it a try as it does help. Maybe CCP could code in something like that so it doesn't crap out the framerates.

There is nothing wrong with the new bracket system except there is a bug with moon icons (I think a dev said as much). The design is great. I have no problem scanning for things and am able to actually click my ship (It's hard, I know) to see the icon. I have seen moon icons, but only when close to the moon. If you just said "OMG there's a bug where i can't see moon icons WTFLOL" I'd agree. But implying there is some sort of problem with the new system's design is silly because it's better in every way that I can see.
And why would you turn off overview settings on scan if you want to see moons? Just...add moons to your overview. TA-DA!
You are aware that you can change your bracket settings beyond "all on" and "all off", right? I can't think of any reason to have "all brackets on", personally. Have several tabs customized to different applications.
You don't seem to fully understand how the new system works. You should try to understand it before complaining that it doesn't work and it's impossible to adapt. The moon icon bug will be fixed and until then you can still select moons pretty easily by mousing over planets if you have some basic motor skills.

I haven't had any more trouble with it than I get from running in windowed mode without it. I'm not sure I understand how it could cause any issues with EVE anyway, since it doesn't interact with the client and uses no system resources to speak of. Maybe you're having an OS issue? * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Dunno. With it off Eve runs with super high frame rates and on it slows to a slide show. Been that way the first time I used it on a completely different older computer and its the same on my brand new one. Both were on XP. *shrugs* If it runs fine on your system then by all means use it. As for me centering the ship on where I want to scan works fine even at the 5 degree setting.
