Server reset=game dies within 6 months.
Thats exactly what will happen, because its happened to other MMOs that reset their servers. Once you open the door, every newbie demands a new reset, at which point is utterly pointless to play.

No, I would cancel my subscription instantly. The thought that every skill I've trained will need retraining, all my favourite ships will be months and months of clock-watching away, everything my corp and alliance has built will be undone, every penny saved will need re-earning, and every notable person or event to have ever happened will now not matter anymore...I just wouldn't be able to face doing it all again.
The beauty of EVE is that its an ever evolving ever changing world with history and player events that matter. If you wiped it, it'd be the end of all that makes EVE appealing to me. Its not like wiping a WoW server where a few weeks grind will put you right back to where you were; wiping the server in EVE has a meaning.
And the irony of course is that SP in EVE (presumably the reason anyone would actually want a reset) has no effect on the way the game is played other than changing what you can access. As the concept of a 1v1 fight in EVE is pretty much meaningless, all of combat and competition is decided by numbers, tactics and choice of ships and setups. the odd 5% bonus to this or that makes almost no difference. ------

I'm paid up til next January. So if there was a server reset I would probably still play, but I would probably cut back on play time.
The problem though is a reset will not fix the problems in the game. The China server showed the problem with that. You'd have the same problems and worse ones within just a few months.
Unlike other MMOs Eve requires large amounts of time to skill up, not game time but real time so a reset is more harmful to the playerbase than it would be in another game.
Thoughts expressed are mine and mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect my alliances thoughts. |

It would take a fair while for the alliances to re-establish themselves, then it would take them a fair while to construct capital ships. I'd say it would be enough time for some old-school shenanigans.

No, but it would be interesting to see 0.0 fights with nothing bigger than a cruiser in sight.
I guess my post was largely influenced by my sense of nostalgia. By my urge to retern to 'the good old' days of EVE. I'm jsut saying I, personally, would find it interesting if everyone was forced to make a new beginning.
I don't put much stock in SP and wealth, as long as I have good corpmates and an interesting area to be in then I'm content.

With the knowledge that people have taken in of game mechanics and the best places to form an idustrial base now known to most people, within weeks people would be flying battleships, perhaps even faster.
To answer your question, yes I'd still play as much as I do now, but only on the understanding that I can keep my charactername for the reset

But I just finally finished AWU5.
Seriously though, I'd love it if it weren't for the fact that I think a lot of good people would be leaving in droves.
EVE II though, with new content, new code, and new server architecture, and a lot of the stupid legacy mechanics cleaned out--now THAT would be something. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Another stupid thread, 1 of 3 or 4 centred round skills and "oh how unfair they are, lets get rid of them"
Darwins theory of eve'olution applies to this and the other threads complaining about having to train skills, the weak get their ass kicked, simple fact.
If new players want to get on in eve they have to train skills. God knows they have a definite advantage in sucking from the ******* of experianced corps/players.
From the beginning new players have a advantage on some of the older players just for that fact alone, and of course the fact new players actually start with more sp.
Read the box on the game before you pay your subs, skills are one aspect of the game that is not going to change.

this, also that all players memories that were erased, the thinsg that made the game good were not knowing and things seeming big and scary. now the game is stale and a shadow of its formerself.

Been a long time since I've seen a reset thread... then again I'm not paying very close attention.
In answer, I'd be pretty full of nerdrage and get all emo about it; I've been at it for near 3 years to get my assets and skills how I like them. Giving that all up so someone else can feel like they have a level playing field? Yeah.... no.
It'd take me about a week to start playing again.

Strangely enough I would say yes. Reskilling every alt would be a total pita and having the nieghbors avoid me for randomly standing in the yard shaking a fist in drunken rage at CCP's general direction would suck. But knowing that I was exactly at the same level as everyone else would I think spur me on to keep playing to keep trying to ride the crest of power. Lofty mentioned not playing due to lacking his beloved T2 ships but he would still be able to do all the things he did before as everyone will be the same level as him sp wise but also the same intelligence. Remember that excelling in Eve is moar about how you play and not what sp you have.

Would I play on a new server ? Sure.
Would it very rapidly develop to the stage where we have the same issues as we do now ? Yep. Especially because certain Isk faucets would be turned on full force from very early on.
Would blob and POS warfare rear their ugly heads ? Yep - and probably faster than they did in the original, as players have Learned 2 Play. Note we would be seeing Frigate Swarms straight off the bat - and they would probably be aimed straight at rats in 0.0.
Would a reset justifiably **** off many old players, and cause many of them to quit ? Yep
Personally, I dont find EvE too crowded. There is plenty of quiet hi-sec in Minny space, including good mining systems, and my patch of 0.0 is ... exciting but not overcrowded.

This. It's just the nature of MMOs. People feel like it's unfair that didn't start on the same level as everyone else, and that everyone should start on the 'same level'
Course, even if that DID happen, what would it solve really? 6 months down the line you have new players who have a 'disadvantage'...

Oh won't someone think of the childr.... Veldnaughts!
As to the subject at hand though, eh, it wouldn't solve any major problems with the game, so I can't see a benefit to it.

Edited by: Vitrael on 04/04/2008 03:27:53 I would actually like very much for the server to be reset.
That way we could undo the hilariously broken distribution of wealth that has been entrenched by unique ships, T2 BPO lotteries, moon mineral distributions, broken complexes...
Of course that would simultaneously destroy an awesome history so I would rather support a second server.

Well, seeing as how I havent been around for as long as most players I encounter in the Eve Universe, I definitely would. But how interesting would it be if they reset the server in order to implement only having 1 character instead of 3. Now THAT would be a gas. (Archaic, I know. )
