I am very inexperienced in the market side of eve and had a question for all you guys. Have there been any notable Ponzi schemes in eve? If so are they fairly prevalent and how much have investors been taken for in them?

Ask Ricdic and Hexxx, they both have a 6th sense at spotting these (after they occur that is). hahah

You sure take every opportunity to get a jab in don't you. I usually try to be nice but BTW, how did your IPO work out? I mean, since we are talking about Ponzi schemes and all.

Currin Trading was quite famous scam in his time. He also predicted the great EIB scam.

Where's this hostility coming from?
To answer the OP, no, there haven't been any notable Ponzi schemes. I'm sure one or two has happened but no big ones and so long as we continue to demand a detailed business plan for public offerings, there won't be.

I had to undergo surgery at some point and I wasn't sure I would live through. So I payed back my only investor (minimum guaranteed return included). Fortunately it all turned well but since then I'm no longer dealing with certain classes of individuals so that means no more IPOs.

CT scammed 30B back in 2006, it was a lot at that time and it produced A LOT of forum drama which slowly escallted into EIB drama. So I disagree, CT was classic ponzi and it is one of most notable events in Eve scams history.
EDIT: Ponzi Scheme

I was going to ask the same thing, considering he was whining about it quite a bit just a few weeks ago.
I wonder how many more days/weeks/months he will post before he disappears into the ether like Riethe did.

Wasn't CT more of a pyramid scheme than a Ponzi scheme or is my memory a little off?

Yes, we all know you don't like Ricdic. Really. We do. Seriously.
You've got a rythem now with your whining/trolling cycle. You whine about not having credability, then you troll for a bit to feed the ego, rinse, wash, and repeat.

That link I posted earlier describes CT operation very well, seems like Ponzi and he calls it Ponzi too. He also mentions another Ponzi scam from 2003 (10B ISK) exacuted by Morbor.

Google is your friend.
"Ponzi schemes are similar to pyramid schemes, but differ in that Ponzi schemes are operated by a central company or person, who may or may not be making other false claims about how the money is being invested, and where the returns are coming from. Ponzi schemes don't necessarily involve a hierarchal structure, as in a pyramid scheme; there is merely one person or company that is collecting money from new participants and using this money to pay off promised returns to earlier participants.
Pyramid Scheme: A scheme in which a hierarchy is created by people joining under others who joined previously, and in which those who join make payments to those above them in the hierarchy, with the expectation of being able to collect payments from those who join below."

There's been quite a few actually, usually by those scammers who have a slightly higher opinion of themselves than the average and think they are being extra clever :)
Eve is open to every kind of scam you can think off - without the protections that real life offers you. It's the wild west in Eve.

I will say this CT placed a ton of effort into his rip off. I read that link that was post, way more work then you would think anyone would do to steal 30 billion ISK in a game. But then I guess he was just in it to see how big a total he could get so that was the game for him.
