Some people get lucky, and others less so. This is another story that ties loosely into the events of our upcoming "EVE: The Empyrean Age" novel. It's not a happy piece.

Great story as always. My head always ends up glued to my screen whenever I read one of your chronicles.

I like it =) some minmatar slavery rp is always good....
k going for long shot here, but I think I remember reading about amarr enslaving other races before they met the minmatar. Khanid was one and are pretty much classed as amarr now days. but are there any that are less integrated into amarr society that are more like the minmatar slaves?

Edited by: Goumindong on 08/04/2008 02:09:59 Interesting twist to an old classic.
ed: Seemed like a happy piece to me, unless there really was no twist and we find out later.

Interesting chronicle. Solid writing, good pacing, lots of PF to explore. There is however something missing.
Context.
Lots of things can be taken from this, yet will any of that be used properly? Without context, in this case the novel soon to be published, I don't see the point. Again, don't get me wrong. It's interesting, solid writing, good pacing etc. But somewhere in there was missing that magic element that let me go "Oh yeah, I can use this."
What is here, is a very limited point of view from one character. There are hints of what is happening but not a clear, concise picture. I'm not saying it's a drawback with this particular story, it seems to fit in somewhere but if it only "loosely" ties into the novel, my question is this: will the novel put this story into context? Will it help form a clearer picture of what is going on? If so, why not wait to put this story out until the novel is available?

Well, I can already think of a few twists in this story of the eve novel.
There is for example the ambitious Tash-Murkon family on one side and the empires chamberlain, who likely wants stability above all things. So it could be very well that both boys would end up as pawns in this conflict and on different sides.
Another possibility would be that the court chamberlain, loses the power struggle against the holders and his personal slaves meet a grim fate. This would make winning the lottery, a very bleak thing, in the hindsight.

A good way to breed your "champions" for sure. However, I doubt Ardishapur will like it.

this remembered me so much of the movie 'The island' its not the same offcourse but only halfway trough I was allready connecting that movies events to the eve universe and the story's events. It kept me glued to the screen. --------------------------------------------- Somewhere beyond happyness and sadness, I need to calculate what creates my own madness o/ |

Too much like the Ender saga. It was a nice read but... well, pretty useless as far as introducing it into the real gaming world out of it. Maybe the novel will change that, but still, I feel that the backstory shouldn't depend on the upcoming novel. Those are different things. |

This was pretty good! I've got to disagree with some of the other posters - sure, it was a bit like Ender and The Island, but that's a story people like to tell. It's the "things may not be as great as you think, kid" style of thing...it gives us a look at (as these chronicles almost always seem to do) the harsher, non-pod pilot side of EVE.
Kudos! |

Very nice. Reminds me of that breeding facility we helped the Defiants liberate in the Bleaks. One of many I guess. An independant holder breeding Minmatar shock troops to sell to the highest bidder?
I always felt the Amarr had more of that Dune type warring noble houses vieing for power vibe than the whole "one big happy family singing hymns on the hill" gig.
To the poster above, the Ni-Kunni were enslaved before the Minmatar. The Khanid were a noble house that went rogue when their leader refused to top himself.
Cool story, looking forward to the next.

Not quite. The Ni-Kunni and Udorians where low-tech races conquered, enslaved and absorbed by the empire.
The Khanid house are a True Amarrian Holder class family, who used to be Imperial Heirs. The Khanid race shared Amarr prime with the True Amarr and allied with them, as a client race, before they went back into space. The race live in the Empire as well as the Kingdom and have a long tradition of serving in the Imperial military. Regards,
Arnulf Ogunkoya. |
