Originally by: Ka Jolo It's easy to be profitable engaging in piracy with an Incursus. Take the time before jumping into a cruiser--you have plenty of PvP skills you can be working on, making your Incursus (and all future vessels) ever more formidable: gunnery skills, drone skills, engineering skills, navigation skills, frigate skills, electronics skills, etc. No need to wait until you have all these PvP skills up to 4 or 5 before buying your Thorax, but do make sure you can at least use T2 guns and drones reasonably well.
This.
Also, you'll get valuable combat experience flying a frigate, which is really invaluable. I did Rifter piracy for a long long time, awesome for learning the ropes.

Piracy is not a steady income stream. You'll go for days of looting nothing but junk, and then one day you'll get millions of ISK in ransom money plus millions more in loot. In addition to looting the wrecks of your victims, scavenge from the wrecks left by pirates higher on the food chains. I used to loot T2 wrecks I'd occasionally come across left at some gate or planet; all it takes is a single cloaking device or a nice T2 shield module, and you're set with another whole stable of Incursuses.
That's correct. Always check out wrecks. You'd be quite suprised at the things people leave behind - I must've made about 250M just robbing wrecks so far.

A nice profession to go along with piracy is trading. By placing sell orders for your loot instead of selling to the highest buy order, you'll maximize your gain; and by placing buy orders for your ships and modules instead of buying from the lowest or most convenient sell order, you'll minimize your costs.
I reccomend using a 800K SP trade alt for this, since you won't be able to get in high-sec anyway when your security status goes down, and they can use tons of sell/buy orders without training.
I would advise you to use sell orders (unless the difference between sell and buy is less then 5% to 10%, then I just don't bother playing 0.01 ISK games with people) for loot selling (park your selling alt in one of the market hubs, I was using Dodixie for a long time, but prices have been going downhill there for some reason). Shop for gear in bulk - use www.eve-central.com to find cheapest places to buy gear in (and look for bargains, I do a shopping run per week roughly, i'll pick up even the stuff I don't really need if they're cheap), or use buy orders.
Always insure your ships. I know they're frigs, but still, free ISK is free ISK, and profiting from piracy is all about being smart with your ISK (aside from flying smart and all that).
Fit for cost-efficency.
When someone asked me why I fly D180mm AC II canes, the answer was very simple: over the last 15 Hurricanes I lost, I saved 64M by going for D180s instead of 220s, and I have never been in a fight where the 5% DPS changed the outcome.
My Rifters never had T2 DCs/Gyrostabs primarily because, well, the marginal boost from a T2 DC or T2 gyrostab doesn't justify boosting the loss cost by 40% or so.
Also, always ransom pods. Very often they won't pay, but don't give up.
