Hey, was wondering if there was any thoughts of making ships have custamizable colour schemes to give your ship a personal touch and not look exactly like every other?

T2 Ships already have different color schemes and very slightly different models, allowing all ships to be any color would cause confusion, and more importantly, a lot of unnecessary lag. ---- In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move. - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Addams |

well what about a customized emblem that can be placed on your ship it would be a cool touch that would make your ship feel more personal and would also be good for corps to have a universal emblem on their ship model

Don't see how it would add lag to be honest, a colour combination could easily be represented in a few bytes, maybe even just one depending on how many colour combos they let us have. If we were talking about corp/alliance logos on ships then fair enough, but Earth & Beyond and plenty of other MMOs have allowed colour customisation without creating any kind of lag.

Back in alpha I think, there was such an option, but it was removed for various reasons (mostly lag I think). Nowadays the issue is how do you visually distinguish between Tech II and Faction ships compared to their standard Tech I counterparts, as well as it being somewhat pointless to do. You'd also have to limit the amount of idiotic colour schemes you can have because CCP take the atmosphere of EVE very seriously.
Alliance logos were shown as one of the features of the Trinity upgrade, where we'd get to have our alliance's logo on the side of our ship, but I don't know what happened to that or when they decided it wasn't going to happen.

I'd personally love a hot pink raven. However, considering some T2 ships are only differentiated by their color, I don't see us getting this option. Which is a shame really.
Spaceflight technology is dime a dozen, we have railguns, drone AI's, and all sorts of high tech gadgetry. But we can't manage track down a single bucket of paint anywhere in the galaxy. =P

PvP rarely rely on looking at the ships in space to distinguish target's ship type anyways, usually I am zoomed out all the way to reduce lag, I cant see anything but UI brackets. ppl generally use the overview ship type column to tell them what ships are out there. Or if you hover the mouse over target it tells you what ship it is.
I think customization is very viable as long as you can turn it off in fleet engagements. plust it gives a cozy feeling that the ship really belongs to you.

No, just no.
The day I see dayglow pink ships flying about is the day eve has gone to the dogs.

This will go one of two ways:
1. People flying black emo ships. 2. Bright pink thorax/geddon.
Whilst it would be cool to see customised ships it would probably end up pretty depressing. Personally, I'd trick my ships out like the Independents from the first I-War game. Those guys had style. Hell, I'd even rename my Rokh, "Under New Ownership", in celebration. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |

it wouldn't be hard to do, lots of NPCs in game have our ships with different colors.
why not just let us use those skins?

You have to admit, the marauders in I-war definitely had flair with that black and red... -------------------------------------------------- Happy member of SOLID |

I agree with Mothermoon, why not just let you toggle between some skin presets? If they let us just choose alternate skins for the ships, I think that is as far as customizing the appearances of ships ever needs to go.

Current system.
10 man camp - 1 hostile jumps and uncloaks. EVE server: Camp - meet thorax, Thorax - meet camp. First comp: Kk, I see a thorax - loading thorax skin from hard drive. Second comp: rgr that, I see a thorax, doing the same. ...
Inplement logos, colours, heads on spikes. Same situation. Eve server: Multicolored camp - meet pink thorax, pink thorax - meet black abbadon, yellow flycatcher, red cerberus... First comp: Whoa there buddy, where do you say that logo was situated? Eve server: Wing, you see a logo on its wing! First comp: But I don't have it on my hard drive! Eve server: Here you go, uploaded it to you. Second comp: Hey, I want the same one! ...
Not going to happen due to lag. Get used to it. ------------------------------------------ All nerfs are meant to hurt you personally. Next time they are going to nerf you directly. Eve Forums. |

No to colors. They WOULD create lag, it's not as simple as just changing the color #, there are layers and filters involved in ship textures.

I do wonder what happened to this, though it could potentially create massive lag while loading onto a grid with many different corps/alliances. If it was limited to alliances it would be fine, if expanded to corps it would create extreme lag in a fleet with many different corps in them.

No to full customization.
Yes to a number of preset skins.
Doesnt even need to be 50 of em. Just half a dozen to ten or so.
Then the Eve server only transmits, Thorax jumps in, color set #3.
Isnt that much more work. (Not compared to all the modules a ship actually fits. All of above post was formulated wth 100% honesty and 100% sarcasm. Now i only need to get drunk
