I typically keep my ships in different locations. Mining ships in one system, mission runner in another. I have a central location for where I store everything.
Typical day where I need to fly from one of these locations to another. They are usually 10+ jumps away from each other so I just buy a shuttle and autopilot there while I do something more productive.
This time when I went to buy a shuttle I saw one for 5,000 ISK, or so I thought. I was in a hurry so I wasn't really paying all that much attention. It was actually 5 million ISK I found out later as I was looking at my wallet. Stupid, I know. Thats exactly what I get for not paying attention though. No one to blame but myself. **** happens and I'll get over it.

I paid 9 mil to rent a corporation office once, thinking "oh, nice - it's a bit cheaper than the regular 10.000 ISK rental fee". I realized my mistake about a nanosecond after clicking Ok.
The sad part was I was still quite new to the game and 9 mil was about everything I had :|
It made me a LOT more vigilant though, and so far I have not fallen for any other mispriced items or expensive offices :) -- Read the captain's log at eve.aeonoftime.com The solo player's corporation - Syrkos Technologies |

Edited by: Quelque Chose on 09/04/2008 09:00:10 A corpmate of mine was stuck doing a level 4 gas harvesting mission like 25 jumps away and asking for help because it was taking forever. Like a sap, I said, "OK I'll help you."
Took me five minutes to fit this Drake I had sitting around and then I'm hauling ass southbound wondering if I'm going to make it on time and watching the market en route for a nearby system to buy the gas harvesting skill. "37k -- not bad," I'm thinking as I'm navigating manually.
Wrong. 37 mil for the skill book, didn't notice until about an hour later. Then it turns out you need a turret slot to mount a gas harvester so on top of that I had to pick up an Osprey. I'd only brought one harvester with me thinking I'd buy more on site, but of course there wasn't a single one selling in the region so basically I paid 40 mil or so to cut about a sixth off my corpie's mission time.
Icing on the cake? The mission didn't complete properly due to a glitch -- by the time he'd petitioned it and got the payout/ LP he'd left the fleet and I didn't get **** of it. And now if I want to recoup my money I'm going to have to figure out how to probe out, mine and sell some gas in low sec.
I am suck.

I recently sold an expanded cargohold II for 135 million isk. The wierd thing is I had 10 for sale at 1.35 mill so I guess the guy must have manually altered his buy-order to 153 mill or something?

Can't remeber what it was, but I do remeber a pop up saying you do not have enough isk to cover this and I was like WTF. I checked again and laughed at myself and said glad I didn't have the isk.
EDIT: It was in my 1st month of play and I did not have that much isk in my wallet because I had just bought a bunch of expensive skill books, Advnaced Learning skills I believe. a little ironic know that I look back. The advanced learning skill drained my wallet so that my first fall for a market scam was null and void.

I did this, quite by accident once, and was pleasantly surprised when it sold three days after being put up on the market.
I then immediately reinvested and bought more shuttles, and resold them in the same system for 5mil apiece. So far, a month later, three more have sold.

Are your shuttles the only shuttles on the market within a resonable distance. If so then the players are either lazy or the system is in the boondocks. If there are shuttles on the market near by for regular price I say damn your lucky.

That's the funny part - my shuttles are NOT the only ones in the system, just the most expensive. I believe, if I'm not mistaken, that there are more than enough shuttles (now, they might be different racial classes) in the station itself!

there is a option now to only show order within X % of normal price.
problem with this is the buy and sell orders which is clearly out of proportion on normal stuff, which should be fixed, you shouldn't be able to put up a order that exceed the "set" market price..
same with contract, it would be very easy for a gm to look though the contract overview system and see those that are clearly scams, then remove them and give a warning to the person doing it, JUST as ANY normal rl company would do if you obviously tried to scam there costumers, since it is very bad for business and stops people from using there service in the most easy manner.
(any one that works with marketing would know that this is a REALLY bad thing to do to their costumers, but well in eve there is only ONE service provider so not like they have to think about HOW EXTREMELIG bad their service is I declare war on stupidity |

hehe, problem is irl doing this will end you up in the hospital at best ;)
idiots do this sense it will come back to you at some point.
attitude is reflekted by the rules that is set by the power tht controls = ccp have around as much control over this place as a mushroom... which is actually losing them a extreme amount of potential players, for the joy of a very little group of players, most of the players that actually sticks to eve don't even like them, that is kind of bad.. make eve too IDIOT proof and all the fun will be lost, hence its great because its a sandbox.
was a time when i was against, piracy, scamming,hi sec ganking etc but if its within the game mechanics i hold nothing against those who do. If your stupid enough to buy without checking an obvious figure then thats your look out not mine or the guy who put it up Just like the warning jumping to low sec peeps ignore it to their peril to LAZY to scout first.

I think I've read a thread with this topic a few months back and there was a screenshot of the most amazing mistake I've ever seen. This guy had a fully faction armed and rigged Moros on contract that he was selling for about 20 billion. Funny part is the SOB forgot a few zeros. Some lucky guy caught this mistake and bought the ship for 20 million isk (I think the numbers are wrong, but the seller pretty much lost a crap-ton of isk because of his mistake). If anyone can find that screenshot, post it here! -------------------------------------------------- "With hard work and focus ye shall achieve." Unless stated otherwise, the opinions above do not reflect those of my corp or my alliance. Thx. >.> |
