I seem to have few questions about Black Op battleships.
1) With max skills it's jump portal range is 4.5 ly (base without skills 2 ly) ? 2) Do those portals allow movement in both directions or only in one direction ? (Example: If Black Op battleship opens jump portal to cov ops cyno in another system do cov ops class ships have ability to jump from the cyno location into black op ship location or is movement allowed from black op ship location towards remote covert cyno). 3) If I understand it correct black op ship itself does not need to jump thru portal it generates ? 4) What amount of fuel is consumed when ship other than black op ship itself jumps thru that portal ? (ie. in a nutshell how many cov op frigates with nanos in lows can I squeeze thru black op jump portal if I honour tank the ship for max fuel capacity).
Might be n00b questions but I have avoided ability to fly capital ships like plague so far and thus might be a bit blond in that regard.

Some additional digging into the issue has revealed that
1) range should indeed be 4.5 ly apparently 2) only one way movement thru portals where black ops is source and cov ops cyno is end point 3) still do not know if black ops ship itself needs to jump thru or not 4) titans take mass/550 000 (max range jump) but do not know if black ops take same amount of fuel.
can anyone confirm that information ? prefereably based on personal experience. especially point 3 as it's still completly unanswered.

1) Yes, 4.5LY at jump drive calibration V 2) One direction only (from BlackOp BS to cyno) 3) No, it has its own jump drive and does not need to use the portal. 4) Ship mass / 16,250 * distance in LY - 10% per level of jump portal generation. Fuel use for portal is only decreased by the jump portal generation skill, and not jump fuel conservation.

On a related note, I believe that you can use a covert jump portal generator with and jump a Black Ops to a regular cyno. The tactical prudence of doing so is questionable however as your primary benefit, that of suprise, is ruined but this can help you in a pinch if you need to get into a system with no covert cyno. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Thats still also good to know as that way it can use cyno gens in space to jump to if it needs to.

The jump drive itself is present only on the Black Ops ship. The jump portal (which is what I assume you meant): 1. covert ops style ships (force recon, covops, stealth bomber) jump from the portal's location to the cyno. 2. It takes racial isotopes of the Black Ops creating the portal, and costs are calculated using the formula above. For anything larger than a frig though, be prepared to be disappointed.
For surprise PvP, I would say it's just like capital hotdropping but less effective: the moment a cyno appears, the enemy will begin to scatter. It's better used to avoid being camped in or bypass "hot" areas. That doesn't mean there isn't fun to be had, however |
