If so: What do you think of it? What are you running for vid card, cpu and ram? Any problems or other things i should know about?

hehe didn't fit to my table either so i had to extend my desk :) 120 cm atleast for those 3 monitors + speakers
I do not have SLI. the pic were taken before the deployment of the 1.1 patch which basically made 3 premium accs impossible (thanks again!)
My PC is a Dell Dimension 9150 and I only upgraded the GFX to a geforce 8800 gts ... so nothing special xD
3 accs with classic graphics are no problem ... and one acc with premium fullscreen is just awesome! |

Are you looking to run a single client spanned across multiple screens, or do you want to run multiple clients?
In case of the first option, go with the triplehead. However if you want to run multiple clients there is another cheaper alternative.
In my case I run a 8800GTS with two LCD screens hooked up, running a premium graphics client on each screen. Those are my true 'mains'. I can't tell you what the exact fps is from the top of my head but it is more than enough, I have no (graphics) lag whatsoever.
In addition I have a low-end 8400GS card installed hooked up with a third monitor. I use the that one for a simple hauling/trading alt and while I can work on it with premium graphics, I prefer to run it with classic because on the lighter I typically have one or two applications and a few browser windows open on that screen. The system is loaded when I run all that, but it's not maxed out yet.
I considered installing a second 8800GTS but then I would also have to upgrade the power supply and I'm holding out for the 98xx series atm. Of course this setup is *NOT* SLI, but it serves my purpose very well. And the 8400GS card is so low-powered it can easily be done with a standard PSU.
In case you ever decide to go for two graphics cards though, there are some things to keep in mind:
1. In all OS's but Vista, there are programs and built-in drivers that allow you to configure how your screens work. They can span or act as 'separate' screens. However Vista still lacks proper support for it. There is payware to get it to work properly but it costs money and you have to turn off Aero and such for it to work.
2. A special note for Vista: It REALLY doesn't like it if you have multiple graphics cards that use different drivers. So mixing ATI and NVIDIA is a bad idea on vista. If you want to install two cards, make sure they use the same driver. So a 8800GTS and a 8400GS (or even a 7xxx) is no problem since they use the same set of drivers. But use older models or other brands like ATI and it can start behaving rather badly. Plenty of information on that available, google for it.
3. In my experience running an NVidia and ATI card next to each other in the same machine can cause problems (though not always). We've seen a fair amount of glitches, hangups etc. due to driver conflicts between the different drivers.
But again, if you want to span a client across triple monitors, get the triplehead. If you want to run multiple clients, a second graphics card might be a better and cheaper solution. And you can spread out the workload, so you don't have to put all the clients on one graphics card. :) .

I've had TH2GO for 16 months now spec is 3X17" LCD running quad core and 2X8800Ultra in SLI
Works fine with one client running 3840X1024 , field of view is about 40% better but the outside monitors increase/magnify the game, except the windows are all normal size, meaning EVE supports it I use the outer monitors for all my windows, and the middle one for an unobstructed view of the field
Also works fine running 2 or 3 windowed clients one on each monitor.
before you buy do your homework buy monitors with thin bezels so the join between them is as small as possible 16 months ago only Nvidia cards could do 3840X1024 if going for 3840X1024 then get 3 monitors that have a native resolution of 1280X1024 each

I have the triplehead2go with 8800gtx, with 3x19' samsung monitors and all i can say that i will never come back to using one monitor only. Overview on the right screen, local chat on the left, and unobscured, clear viev on the middle screen gives me quite an edge.

I run 5 clients windowed on one PC with no real problems. Setup is Top Intel quad processor, max ram, three 8600 nvidia cards, three monitors (2x 22" and 1x 32"), each card run a single monitor. This lets me mine w/3 hulks, haul w/1, guard w/1. You just have to be careful to associate the right client with the right monitor/video card set. I would not recommend getting into multi player pvp fights, but for mining it works great!

Wow. Absolutely beautiful.
Although it's a shame that EVE's UI requires this kind of setup before you can have a decent view of everything. As it is now on one monitor, way too cluttered.

Absolutely agreed.
I take it we believe the majority of players have one monitor?
If so, what about a UI Desktop choice? Desktop A Desktop B Desktop C
These would be configurable by players with a layout suiting them best.
Then, rather than use a complicated and time consuming menu option, players hit a shortcut key and the required UI desktop comes into view, on demand.
Snazzy.

It looks impressive. And is really good for taking amazing screenshots. But the outer two displays look wrong, I can't put my finger on what exactly but things look curved.
I think the novelty lasted about 3 days, before I went back to a normal screen.

Edited by: Protrade on 21/04/2008 03:25:32 Things look curved since your eyes are a different distance away from the other monitors. Thats why you need to curve the outer two towards you. I've had my MT2G for about two years. I would take a picture but my desk is a pigsty 3, 22" Acer's on this computer and 3, 17" dells on my other. I will never go back to one monitor for personal use. Even two is pushing it.
It definetally has its advantages / convieniences for EVE. Same setup as everyone else... except it is left for chats. middle for market, right for wallet. I run about 6 clients in windowed mode all streched without a issue. Alt-Tabbing 4tw. I am also surfing the internet at the moment. _____________________________________

Add me to the Triplehead2Go crowd.
I run 3x19" wide-screen monitors at a total resolution of 3840x800 using an 8800GTS 640mb SLI setup.
After playing Eve this way for a few months, I won't ever go back to a single monitor setup. My left monitor is all chat (Intel, Local, Corp, Alliance, etc). My right monitor is all Overview, Fleet, Scanner. This leaves my center monitor for targeting, modules, and drones.
It also works EXTREMELY well for Team Fortress 2!

The Alienware Curved Monitor should be pretty sweet too.
but tbh i would rather have my ship on one screen and all those chat windows and the overview on a second than one of those.

yup you are right, the 2 outer monitors(in EVE) have a different aspect ratio, compared to the middle one, making every thing larger, except the chat/overview windows(and all other windows like assets etc.)
hence why we(TH2G users) use middle one for the dock and in space and the outer 2 for the windows,I wouldn't go back to a single monitor, and I havent since I got this setup over a year ago |
