Edited by: Jinx Barker on 13/04/2008 14:10:59 So, fellas,
Ya all want to fly to Iceland, and have a little soirTe with the Devs! I say good for you! However, allot of you, and I mean those who are not backed by major alliances, need our vote to do so.
As such, I suggest you come by a thread that has been around for two years, a thread that reflects on the issue which pretty much influences the majority of the EVE population in one form or another, and express to us, the "voting public" on how ya all going to deal with the issues raised, and the lack of certain responses, from certain developer community...
Of course, some of you might already guessed what I am driving at.. it is, of course, the "Dead Horse" issue, which has been ongoing for a very long time now...
Anyway, CSM candidates, I will see you there.... and I am not the only one, about 20,000 viewers of that thread will be there as well...

Wanna hear what i think?
The purpose of the CSM is to present the views of the public. Its very obvious that the thread is extremely popular(I think its quite sound too), so of course, if i get in, i will do my best to hear CCP on the suggestion and try and push it forward.

CCP is well aware of the existing bugs and there has been plenty of time for them to listen to what we think is wrong with totally messed up systems like pos's. If they have not changed or fixed these things by now then nothing we can say will make them change thier minds.
I see the CSM as having a greater effect on the future of Eve. We can make sure they know what we think of current game play but its more important to me to let them know how we, players that put a hearts into the game, feel about changes to the game before they are implemented. We stand a much greater chance of effecting things in the planning and implementation stages. This is the role I see the CSM playing in the game. ================================================
Just because your paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you! Vote Peri Stark for the CSM. |

My god the final picture in that link is amazing. Being able to build stations like in that link would be awesome.

Wasn't the original stated role of the "CSM" basically a supervisory one? They'd fly into Snowtown, review server logs, watch for "stray" saber BPOs, in short make sure the devs weren't cheating (again), etc.
Now it's devolved into "the players would like drone buffs"?

You can roll your eyes all you want, however, CSM might have been initially thought out as the group of people to look for the "stray Saber BPOs" - in my opinion it is becoming much more than that.
They are, in a nutshell, representatives of the EVE community to the Developers of the EVE universe. As such, they will indeed have an opportunity to discuss the mechanics of the game, the direction of the game, and the general, and individual feel they have for the game.
As such, even if those will be informal discussion, and perhaps have very little bearing on actual game design, they will still contribute to it, believe it or not.
One can see even now, the diverse group which is vying for the nomination, we have Carebears and PVPers, both involved, because both groups live in the same universe, and are just as invested as another in its success.
Feel free to roll your eyes some more.

Actually, the CSM is exactly the chance for people like you: After the election has taken place and the CSM members are appointed, there will be Phase II of CSM operations: The nomination of topics to be discussed by the CSM with CCP, with an additional vote over all collected topics to set the priorities. So gather your friends, nominate your topic, and vote for it to be a mandatory point at the CSM discussions in June!

Hehe, I remember reading that thread when it was created and thinking man, that does look pretty sweet. Good looks have often been used throughout history as a reason for people to fly certain ships in favour of others, so it's easy to see how the same mentality when applied to POSs has seen the thread persist for such a long time.
Although there was a dev response in there warning that any such implementation would take time, certainly I'd be happy to raise the issue again given the opportunity. If there's one thing POSs do need, it's more of a fun factor.

Ok first off I am not running for a free trip to Iceland, and I may not be in one off the biggest alliances or the smallest, but I do have my alliance members supporting me. And I do not represent them. My voice is for those that hate farmers, and I will do my best to look at all matters with a open mind.
Though I have not read all the posts in that thread it seems to be nice, this is an idea that can make POSĘs fun and look a whole lot better to be honest. I will say if elected I am all for pushing it to the CCP Panel. In a worst case scenario CCP will give a reason why it gets turned down.

CSM candidate reporting in.
Player-owned stations are enormously important to Eve, and the current system is not very sound.
POS'es the one thing that makes Eve a truly persistant-world environment, it's something the players create and destroy, and have a huge impact in the world.
The reason why the thread is so popular, is because it contains a good, sound idea, and explains and illustrates it well. It looks like something that came straight out of a game design document, and this thread is an example how ideas should be forwarded. I'm quite disappointed that the devs were so late in making an actual reply to the thread (even though they claim to have read it earlier). Ideas like this should be encouraged, especially when presented in such a format, even if they are not possible to immediately implement them in the game.
I'm not just going to bring up this idea to the developers, I want to review and bring up every other idea that is as well worked-out as this one in the future, and make sure that it doesn't take a YEAR to get some feedback next time! |

They already gave the reason in the thread: They want to change the POS system, but it takes a lot of time and effort to program the new system and create all the art for it, but nevertheless it has a high priority.
CCP has a few ideas of their own too, remember that they wanted smaller player-owned structures in space, like habitation modules, etc?
Our job as CSM is to evaluate the different systems and features and confer with the players what they like to see in the game, where problems can arrise, or if there can be made improvements. |
