What is the MD etiquette on calling attention to instances of market manipulation?
Do you call it so others can get in on the act or let it ride and wish the gent/lady all the best?
I've just been watching an attempt.

Market manipulations happen all the time. Generally the only time the act is given attention is if the person doing the manipulating wants to draw attention to it. ------------------------------------- NECB |

The etiqette is that everybody accuses everybody else of market manipulation, regardless of... well, anything. Squabbling about some (real or perceived) manipulation is half the fun... the ISK you gain (and, unavoidably, the ISK somebody else loses) is the other part of the fun. Everbody loves a good verbal confrontation, wether it's based on fact or fiction. Truth be told, the fictional ones are a bit more fun, especially when they do turn into fact when somebody actually takes the bite.

I always offer to buy overstock supplies at discount before trying to artificially increase the downward price move. I think it's the gentlemanly thing to do. =)
It's always easier to manipulate if you're flowing with the stream of Supply v. Demand.

3 Votes for Silence. Thanks for your time guys, appreciated.
Anyone else have another method that they would care to educate me on?
I had been raising my buy orders hoping to make isk on the new price differential but pulled out once I realized if the price corrected suddenly I'd be high and dry.
Its not, but this thread could just as easily be its own manilputaion so that I can buy a cheaper transport.
But seriously, any tips on how to cash in on a manipulation without being the one taken for a ride?
cheers

Seriously, silence. How much are you offering for me to sell my business to you? I reiterate, silence is the first and bestest technique to maximize your own profits.

I sincerely disagree with this statement. Lying, misinformation, misdirection, and even truth are all useful. None of these involve silence. Concord doesn't provide consequences. Concord provides insurance payouts. |

Well, I guess we could say it would be silencing your real intentions

I disagree with you disagreeing with this statement. Why waste you time lying, misinforming, misdirecting, or telling the truth??? Just do the manipulation and let everyone else over-analyze the situation and think of all the possibilities such as lying, misinforming, misdirecting, or telling the truth.

market manipulation....etiquette? Multiple word oxymoron, anyone?
Seiously, I think Shar's right, but I also see a good deal of manipulation in the forums. Shardale said in another thread that he saw posting in the forum as essentially manipulation in itself, citing that no one (with half a brain) posts in the forum for no reason.
I recently made a ton on buy orders and am loathe to tell even my mates on how I did it. They're pretty new to the game, however, and don't see the potential or excitement the market brings. They think it's boring.... okie... I'll shut up when they say they don't wanna. *** Looking for a corporation to learn about all the different aspects of New Eden? The Trivenerate is hirin |

Silence is what you do if you can't figure out how to say something that will boost the manipulation.

Silence doesn't create a revenue stream though, only sa***uards the profitability of a revenue stream. If you aren't making any money, keeping quiet about it won't make you any richer :D
I suspect the OP was asking for tips on how to generate profit out of watching someone else do a market manipulation. But in the finest traditions of MD and market pvp, I doubt people will give up their best tips gratis. |
