After the last update earlier this week, whenever I undock from the station, there are no stars or outer space. Everything in the background is just white, making it almost impossible to play.
My ship is there, the station, planets and other nearby objects, but there's no background.
Has anyone else had this issue? Drago Ronard Public Relations - The Curmudgeon Society [CURM] Website - http://www.the-curmudgeon-society.com Public Channel - CURMUDGEON

Yea, I'm having the same problem right now. I'm running the cedega EVE version on linux Ubuntu 8.04. After I fixed my config settings the space background is all white. I can still see all the other objects.

When this happens for me - I switch graphics-mode ingame and the problem is solved =) I have noticed that it happens in some solar systems, never in others..

I've tried that and it doesn't work for me. Maybe it's because I'm using and ATI card?

Ok.. Using Nvidia here.

This is the problem with the official client.
The problem with the wine approach on my card was probably some software-emulation wich seems to be unavoidable.
So... any solution for the white space?
(ship-selection-mini-picture backgrounds) (space behind planet in login) (space in general) (also portraits are rendered "weird")

I have a similar problem, although not exactly the same. In some systems the stellar background is corrupted and shows as random blocks of color. This background seems to be the black one; the "pink cloud" background is fine. I haven't checked others. I'll try to get a screenshot, but in the meanwhile has this happened to anyone else?
thanks, A

I have the same problem described by Chillshock on both my computers. Space is white everywhere, reproducible always. They both use ATI cards and the official client.
Here is a screenshot of it, all other objects and effects seem to render fine.

Am using an ATI card, too. So there seems to actually be a problem with ATI support. Still.
Well is there anything getting done about it?
Right now, the wine+eve approch is working allright. I could use some more performance, tho.

Hi, I just used the free activation I got in my email to check out how the game's been progressing, and to try out the Linux client for the first time.
Official one has this white space all the time, like above.
WINE won't even start for me, seems to be some incompatability between FGLRX and WINE for Direct3D stuff (it'll run City of Heroes perfectly well maxed out).
Would you mind telling me what versions of driver/wine/etc you're using that you can get an ATI card working with WINE, chap?
Thanks!

I am running the current wine from the official wine repositories.
Also the drivers are the current proprietary ones.
Remember to install the premium client and switch to classic mode AFTER patching.
You have to remember to copy the arial font to your .wine/drive_c/windows/fonts diretory and the directx files from a working windows/system32 to your wine/drive_c/windows/system32 one. (I just copied all of the d3dx9_24.dll - d3dx9_35.dll ; you probably only need the 35 one.)
Works, but slow - especially in space. :/

I did all that stuff, it's just that with the WINE in the SuSE11 repo, and the FGLRX in the Suse11 repo, Wine + DirectX = no-worky. With any game, at all.
OpenGL stuff runs fine, I can run City of Heroes, and WoW in OpenGL mode. Switch WoW to DX9 mode, and WINE crashes. Other people on the WINE website have been complaining as well, seems a pretty major issue. If it's somehow working for you I'd suggest making sure your updater is set not to touch it for now.

Well it is not - it underperforms big time.
Also I used the official winehq repository. Maybe that changes things?

Does anyone knows if its a problem with the game or the graphic drivers. Because I use cedega which is supplied by eve when you install it on linux and I have the ATI drivers ?
If its a graphic driver problem, maybe theres an option somewhere in the x.org config file to modify perhaps ???

Actually I think I have tried about anything I found on xorg.conf. Some of it I didn't even quite understand - and those things I usually leave untouched.
No - The official Linux Client seems to be nothing more than broken on my Card and current Linux installs.
:( And as for the performance of eve+wine... I really wish I could ditch windows completely, but no.
