When I first started this game a few months ago I kept complaining in this forum that the game was boring and repetitive. However, I kept playing and now I'm hooked. It just takes a couple of months to really enjoy this game, so to you new players out there, don't give up hope.
(I also complained about the 1 hour down time every day and I stand by that)

I'm glad you've finally realised what EVE has to offer!

1 hr downtime is for cleaining up the database of the millions apon millions of transactions etc, to respawn the belts and to make sure all things work, its only 1hr, go have some food, or take a walk :)
and yeah iv been playing 4.5 years, and still like the game :)

So actually, you assert that the title of your post is wrong? Probably better to change it rather than have a title stating the game is boring, and content with the opposite message.
But yes. It's not entirely surprising that people come in with one mentality and feel the game is building them up to something, when really they need to get a feel for the mechanics and then derive their own goals. It is kind of a chicken-and-egg situation (i.e. you need to play a little while before you can work out any decent reason for playing) but the initial novelty seems to carry people through most of that intervening stage. It doesn't surprise me when the shine starts to come off after a week or two, before the player gets involved with a real corporation and discovers everything else the game has to offer.

Thanks for sticking with it.....I'm not bored yet and still have much to learn.
Downtime is a biatch, especialy for us Aussies who have DT in the middle of our prime time (9pm), but you learn to live with it. If it wasn't for downtime, our dinner dishes would still be in the sink next morning and I'd be divorced.

Keeping your family alliance standing better than -2.0 is important, especially the Wife corp in it .
Too bad in most cases their Materials for war: Preparation mission tend to keep scaling up to more valuable trade goods......

I can not say that I did not feel the same after about a month or so. That was the point that I realized that I needed to expand the base that I interacted with. I went to the recruitment forums and after some weeding, I found a corp that suited me. After a few weeks there a few of us moved on to my current corp. It has been sits and giggles since. Well mostly ;-)
Keep up the good work and hopefully the stars are the limits.
As for the down time it is a necessary evil. I am also unhappy to say that one of my RL friends did not continue EVE since his primary play time includes the down time which is before his time to leave for work in the morning. So it has its negatives, but surely they are outwayed by the benifits of a moderate daily downtime.
I just feel very sorry for our fellow Ausies . Keep them dishes clean!!!

Only been playing a week and a bit..and not sure what to make of it yet..i didnt bother with the trail account went straight to full just to make sure i didnt miss anything...The only thing so far that has upset me was being podkilled and that was my own fault going afk on a long (19 jumps) auto pilot jaunt was bound to be an accident waiting to happen, i mean i dont mind losing a ship (to much anyway) as i had insurance but the loss of skill points hurts, hell i didnt even know you could get a clone never mind that it saves your sp....So i think i'll play out the month's sub i have paid for before i decide if i continue to play or go back to (horror of horror's) WoW...but anyway this game maybe a lot of things but boring ...never.

Eve is not the sort of game you could judge just by playing it for a few hours or a few days. I got the 21 days trial from steam. At the beginning i also found it boring... but that was cause i didn't know what to do. Then one day... someone told me lots of things about even and what to do, how the skill system works,... A week later i understood more abotu the game. I believe it's very hard for someone to learn abotu eve without anybody helping them... this would cause to think that eve is boring but with the help of others, a whole new world opens...
Join a newb player corp, a corp that trains people. They will tell you all about the stuff that's in eve :) Eve-online guide collection Web based version |
