If I run missions with my alt I get 0 sec status gains, no matter what mission or rat.
I do them solo and I get huge gains.
Why?

Theres a 10 min rule. Fattest rat in the 10min will be your only gain for that 10min. One exception is if you fly to another system or something like that. You probably got more missions done going solo or ran easy fast missions.
Theres also a soft cap of 6.5 sec stat on lvl 4 missions. Think you need to kill null sec officers to get it to keep going up.

It was actually nerfed a while ago, mission rats no longer give sec gains like belt rats. I think if you're killing the local npc type in the mission, e.g. serpentis in gallente space, you'll still get gains as per the 15 minute timer dealy thing. But don't hold me to it, I noticed the same while trying to fix sec on an alt, did some searching and found out it's intended

i don't run missions but if i'm in a gang and my mates kill a rat they gain sec status and i don't. only thing thats split is the bounty. i know this for sure and its always been like that. so if your alt does the killing then that would only be natural. probably to keep people from "farming" sec status for several chars at the same time. (which could be a possibility for people that don't hug being outlaw)
if you also kill rats that would be kinda odd i think.

You have to fire on the ship to get the sec gain, otherwise it's just bounties that are split. ------------

Ok, I brought in my alt last night to help out, but I made sure to shoot each rat myself before he opened up and it seemed to work.
Still, I'd like to see some OfficialÖ documentation on how sec status gains work so I'm not shooting in the dark. - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

Edited by: NightF0x on 21/04/2008 17:03:29 I submitted a bug report because my character wasn't gaining sec status after he reached a sec of 5.0 while doing missions. Here is the response.
Quote: //NightF0x is not receiving security status increases because his security status is already at 5.00, which is the maximum a character can attain under normal circumstances (I know this is different to the normal standing limit of 10, but this is intentional).
I always thought sec status limit was -10/+10 ------------------------------------

I know that I've had to petition sec problems recently, no matter what I did, my sec status wouldn't go up from Missions, Anomolies, or Ratting. I finally had to attack someone to get my stuff to start working again.

I slaughtered a number of people last week, maybe that got it "unstuck". - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

Can still gain lots of sec from missions, but some missions don't give sec.
Recon 1/3 is the best missions for pure sec gain. Kill 1 BS every 15 mins and you'll gain fast.
Fastest way to gain sec through missions is to go to a low-sec hub where there's multiple L4 agents. Take out several missions at once and kill 1 BS from each faction per 15 minutes.
So if you killed: 1 Angel BS 1 Blood BS 1 Guristas BS
every 15 minutes, you would get 3 sec gains in that time |

-10/+10 is the actual limit.
The reason why +5.0 is the practical limit is that, AFAIK, you need to hunt faction and officer spawns to get it higher.
You aren't going to find anything in a mission to push it past 5, and you will be hard pressed to find enough faction/officer spawns to get too much more than 5.
As for the OP's problem, it could be that you need to shoot an NPC for it to count towards your security increase: han't tested it myself. It would be nice if CCP would confirm that in the documentation. Originally by: Rawr Cristina Take out several missions at once and kill 1 BS from each faction per 15 minutes.

Interesting
I will need to test that one out. |

Edited by: Ralara on 22/04/2008 16:38:25 wrong, wrong, wrong.
1) it's 10 minutes.
2) +5 is the highest you can go (well, +5.01).
Faction and officer spawns will not get you higher than that.
EDIT: there were/(are?) a couple of bugged rats that would/(will?) get you higher than that, but they're not meant to. -- Ralara / Ralarina
I did a big poo once that wouldn't flush, so I put a carrier bag around my hand and picked it out, and put it in the green bin.
