I wasn't even happy about the last font, but this one is worse. I had to play with the smaller sized font to make it look bearable, and now we get another downgrade. I don't understand where Punk is, she came to this thread and now that I posted some solid font evidence she is gone. Come back! Need stuff moved? Push Industries will handle it. Nope - can't see what you're getting at. What's wrong with the nines?
Small font/large font? I can't see any real difference between the overview appearance in your screengrabs. |

I am not a fan of the new font either, overall it feels like a decrease in legibility with more effort now required to scan/read text.
I have found it easier to read though by reducing contrast in the UI so its not a pure white on dark black, I'm now using a charcoal grey. |

Just a little note to request CCP Punklady to have a look at changing "Stargate (System name)" to "System name (Stargate)" as this look for quick readability is made much worse with the new font. Was a big thread about it the other day got no dev attention (or views?).
Cheers. you're talking about the recent overview changes, not the font changes a few months ago right? I saw this request (remove stargate from stargate overview entries) spring up in the patch feedback thread so I believe this poster is talking about recent changes yes. EDIT: Of course it might be confusing to simply remove it but some form of abbreviation might help keep them prominent yet readable. The main issue was the 'broken' font being too wide and making the actual gate names unreadable. Even with it fixed now it would make sense to do something so shorter columns would still show the stargate name rather than clipping the important info (stargate... ) if it was posted in the feedback thread it has probably been addressed by the people who did the recent overview changes (I don't know if they wanted to change it or leave it as is) This reminded me of something I was going to post to F&I a while back but forgot about. Why do we need such long descriptions for every overview line in addition to the symbols?
I think it would be pretty sweet to have an option to disable the prefixes for everything with a unique symbol to save overview space. For instance, instead of Planet I; Planet II; Planet III, it would just be I, II, III. Most things are easily identified by their symbol directly before it so in a lot of cases the full name is rather redundant.
Maybe a 'compact' overview is in order, but I understand holding off if it's currently being redesigned anyway. |

It is really compressed. Look at the numbers and look how there is no spacing between lines. Everything looks like it's very boxed in.
I wish mine looked like that.
I have 20 / 20 vision and I like high resolutions and very small fonts. In EVE I only increased the font size on some chat windows.
I play at 2560x1440 and for me the new font looks like each character was cut out one by one by a 3 year old.
And yes, I tried the UI scaling thing to all available options. The UI scales, but the font always looks really bad.
I'll post a screenshot when I get home.
Am I missing a hidden setting somewhere?
EDIT: Just like to mention that I pratically didn't play EVE for the last 3 years, and I was shocked when I saw the new font. I seriously thought something was wrong with EVE's resolution or my graphics card. |

You really like it when the overview covers most of your screen? Anyway, font is good. And make your overview smaller please. |

I think I found out what is wrong.
@ 2560 x 1440 and UI scaling @ 100%
With FULL SCREEN setting I get this: http://i44.tinypic.com/5wwh2r.jpg Notice that fonts and the UI itself looks a bit off.
With FIXED WINDOW setting: http://i42.tinypic.com/rruw08.jpg I get this crisp and perfect fonts and UI.
Is it a driver setting? Or is it the game engine that does this? I am running an AMD 6970 |

Just logged in again. The font is really hurting my eyes, I just can't play. It literally is straining my eyes. Tried playing for 30 minutes and I have a headache. Does it actually look like this in the game or did those jpeg images get "blurred" because the quality wasn't set to perfect 10?

There is nothing wrong with the font, not in game or in your screenshot.
If there was, you should file a bug report and not whine on the forums.
Just look at H3llb0und's screenshot, that is what a real problem looks like. There is a definite scaling issue. |

I saved the jpegs with maximum quality in Photoshop. Tinypic might have compressed the images. but the main thing here is the fonts and the UI lines, and they look like this in game.
On the second screenshot with the fixed window setting the UI and the fonts look perfect for me. |

In history I have experienced corrupted graphics with certain resolutions while the card has been working mostly fine in some others. All I say really that this is possible so don't spend all your efforts trying to find software solution if one doesn't seem to be found.
I have even had very old graphics card which managed to open one random game perfectly fine but all fonts looked like Chinese hieroglyphs and half of them were missing :) Anything is possible.

I'm sorry, but I didn't want to create another thread for this. And I actually thought you were having a similar problem to mine.
The font itself is very readable, maybe even more than the old one. Can't really compare as I was away from the game for a while.
It would be great if CCP could give us more choice, like a few font types to choose from, complete control of the font size, kerning, bold not bold, shadow, contour. Like some subtitle players have...
But again, the current font is great. |

The font looks good, but it's way too wide, overview is taking over the screen as it is now.
Mine looks like this right now, I warped to a random belt in a random system just to get the velocity etc showing: http://i.imgur.com/VHjMn.jpg (the quality dropped a bit when I stored it as .jpg, it's not that blurry ingame)
* Font looks nice, the size of letters etc works out really good imho
* The scaling is horrible, you have to fiddle alot with sizing things up/down just to find something that suits your particular resolution, this is major issue, feels like CCP just tried it all on one standard resolution on one PC and settled with that setting. I might have extra issues myself because I play on something unusual like 1600x900 (it just happens to be quite nice when you want to try see 5+ clients at the same time, easy to overlap them without ruining too much quality).
* Spacing on the font is horrible as well. The overview is impossible to not get massively wide. I had to compromise on mine and make name colums a bit smaller than I want, just so it just won't take over the whole damn screen. Grr.
TL;DR I think OP has a point. And the common theme between most people posting complaints, seems to be that it's hard to find a setup/scaling that works good on your particular setup. I.e. the "scaling" isn't very much scaling at all, you have to play with the setting CCP wants, or bust. this is a signature |

The train where issues with font were dealt left the station months ago and was very well handled by CCP Punkturis and her team. There was loads of problems in the start, but the improvements in the end product are something they can be proud of. Even maybe not being 110% perfect the font/scaling is still in state with what almost all players can agree with. You will not find much support to subject of this thread any longer.

I noticed that a few patches/updates/fixes ago, the overview turned on the "Small Font" option on its own.
Try and check if it's selected, and whether or not you like it that way. The settings is somewhere in the Overview Settings; IIRC in the Appearance tab.
Maybe it's turned on, and your "old" behavior is to just have it off.
Can't hurt to check. << THE RABBLE BRIGADE >> |

The new overview font is much more readable, in both sizes. Perhaps you just need to give it more time, or try and play with the ui scaling. |
