A friend and Ithought we might have some fun fliping cans, never done it before, and didnt understand how the aggression works.
My buddy goes in and flips a can, the miner aggresses, and they begin to duke it out, but the guy never flashes red to me. We were ganged up so I thought we would be able to work together on it, aparently I was wrong... Do we have to be in the same corp for the guy to flash red to both of us, or is this a one on one type of fighting only?
Any help/advise would be a plus, thanks.

The agression rules:
- When you steal from a can, you alone become flashy red to the player who the can belonged to, as well as everyone in his corp (if he is in a player corp). Your gang and corpmates are unaffected eitehr way.
- When someone attacks you, the attacker alone becomes flashy red to you alone. Corp and gang mates on either side are not affected.
- When your buddy, ganged, corped or not, it doesn't matter, assists you by activating a logistics module (like a tracking link, remote repair or a shield transfer array) on you, he alone becomes flashy red to anyone that you are shooting or that is shooting you. They still need to attack him before he can join in the fun.
So the only way to get your buddies involved in can flipping pew pew is to have them carry one logistics module with them and boost you with it. This will either help you in beating the target down single handedly, or your buddy will be attacked and can from then on pitch in.
Really, the best way to get a whole gang involved in a flipping operation is to have them all in the same corp and transfer ALL of the target's ore into a can owned by you or your corp mates, hoping he will try to steal it back. When he does, the entire corp gets shooty rights on him.
As to what can flipping is, it's a tactic by which you steal ore from a miner and put it in a can of your own, hoping that the miner will either attack you or try to take the ore back, in either case causing him to become flagged for agression to you so you can shoot him. It's a tactic used for either resource denial or high sec piracy.

Thank you Avalon... Does that rule apply to NPC corporations as well, or is that only for player corporations?

It only applies to player corps.
Edit: It looks like Shanur answered while you were typing this...scroll up for his explanation, which I agree with. ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University. |

Well explained Shanur, thank you. I belive I understand how it all works now...The odds of me jetting a can big enough can to scoop all the ore into is slim tho, w/o a large cargo space.
I assume my best bet is to let my buddy get the aggression, then ill zoom in and remote armor repair him untill
a) the guy aggresses me as well, and we finnish him together, or b) let my buddy finnish him off while i assist
Either way its win win I guess.

Romeo, when you jettison anything, even a single piece of ammo, a temporary container with 27000m3 of space is created. Jetcan mining is when miners use this temporary container to store their ore as they work for an hour or more, then haul it away in a single trip with an industrial.
Thus, by jettisoning a piece of ammo and transferring all their ore into your jetcan, you potentially steal an hour or more of their labor, which is pretty awesome if I do say so myself.

Thats what we have been doing, jetting a bookmark/piece of ammo or whatever. But the way I understood Shanur's post was that wouldnt solve the problem of the miner agressing myself and my partner unless we were corped, and the can used was a "corp owned can". By corp owned can I thought he meant a standard cargo container, not a jet can.
I getting confused again lol... so fun being new:)

No, what happens if you're in a player corp is any can you jet is owned by the corp, not by you. This is why when a thief steals from a player who is in a player-corp, the thief gets red to the entire corp.
If you're in an NPC corp, the can you jet belongs to you, so the thief becomes red to just you.
That's how player corps are different. They just own the cans.
Can flipping is stealing from someone's jet-can (usually while they're mining), in order to become red to them and bait them to attack you. The thief is either in a big ship, or plans to warp away and come back in a big ship to take the miner out, and if the miner shoots, the thief can then "defend himself" with the bigger ship.

When can flipping with a friend, you flip a bit of the ore and your friend flips the other. Leave, or cloak or whatever, and wait for him to take from both your cans. That is the only way he'll be red to both of you as far as I've been able to figure out.

What I did last night was had my buddy warp in, flip the can, get aggrression from the miner, then warp out, like he was runnin scared. Then I would come in right behind and take ownership of the can before the miner ever got back to it. Now the miner is taking from my can, and hes flashing red to my buddy for 15 minutes. That went alright I guess. To much like work tho, so I just made a player corp last night to make things easier for us:P
Thanks for the replies everyone.
